Members of the Restoration & Archiving Trust at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR), Toddington, have created a memorial display to honour the former employees of the Great Western Railway (G.W.R) who worked on the Honeybourne line, and sadly perished during WW1 (1914-1918).
The display uses a number of artefacts, some found on the battlefields of WW1, to help illustrate life on the front, and includes details of the employees who gave their lives during this tragic conflict. Initial fact-finding using books and websites has revealed over twenty G.W.R employees who were based at the stations between Cheltenham and Stratford on Avon, before they joined up. The research shows that nearly half of the men worked in Cheltenham, with the other men employed at nearly all of the major stations on the line except Gotherington.
