Additional points to consider: When he first mentions them, he pauses. "There's a man and his . . . dog." He was about to say kid. Plus, when he describes the 'dog', he takes the time to describe it as brown haired, and blue eyed. You dont usually say that to describe a dog. Thats a person.

athomicritics yes and no. Alternate WW2 doesn’t mean it’s now about aliens from mars fighting a race of ponies. You still have to maintain the trappings of the event you’re using for inspiration, and uniforms help with the visuals. See Iron Harvest for reference on how to do the alternate universe based on real event right. And frankly, while the game has a lot of potential, visually they do make a few mistakes for what are supposed to be paratroopers.

This game reminds me of a game for Amiga and PC (Amiga version is superior) called Lost Patrol. The gameplay is different, this having squad based gameplay and Lost Patrol having different minigames, but you did have to manage your peoples morale and make hard decisions.
