There are very rare cases that the Canadian snap is smooth, but then the manufacturer's signature is visible from the bottom (with date). Such things are most often seen on map cases, officers' bags -- things from the end of the war.

Out of interest have you ever tried putting the strap on the Canadian one into the pouch and inserting the clips on top? If it is long enough opening the pouch and pulling on the flap would deploy the clip. The strap might not be long enough but it would make more sense rather than it being such an obstruction.
@historicmilitaria1944

I see what you mean...a bit like the strap in a luger holster...pulling it assists the gun to come out...in the case of the canadian web pouch it's not workable.

All of the British and Canadian pouches have a very noticeable difference in the male part of the snap. I have three of the Canadian versions 1941 dated. I also see the British pouches have a pleated pouch compared to the flat Canadian pouch. Very good information for the collector C J.

yes true, theres a slight difference in the shape of the pouches...it was a nightmare trying to sort out what was what,but i think it gets the message across.

@@historicmilitaria1944 This is the type of video that informs as to what to look for when collecting, or to help identify what you already own. I had to go grab mine since I couldn't remember what I had. Dead giveaway was the "C" broad arrow.

There is another exception. The South African version, which was used when they fought alongside the British in North Africa, looks exactly the same as the British version, though it has the same webbing piece as the Canadian version. It has smooth buttons. It can be identified by stamps on the back which include a date. All South african pouches have a arrow inside a U. Thats how you can identify them.

Another education from the classroom of professor CJ!.... joking aside, great video m8 and I am now a little bit more knowledgeable, I'm going to have to check mine now, I think I'm ok as I know at least one of them has the correct buttons. I laughed out when you waved your finger I front of the camera🤣, great comic delivery m8 , but with an important message behind it. All the best CJ🙂

@@historicmilitaria1944 cheers CJ, I might do a '6th June ' video today, nothing really to show but I've had a full weekend of militaria fun doing my own videos, the Friday night livestream and yesterday's visit to the pub museum. I'm still trying to process it all.....they had a full size model of a V1 flying bomb on the roof! I reckon someone's made it out of odds and ends as the nose cone isn't correct, but still it's an impressive sight, what a place to have a beer...or in my case too many 😀

@@steelhelmetstan7305 its an amazing display,well laid out. yep a d day themed vid is not a bad idea..how ironic is it tho if you ask most of todays teens whats the significance of june....they will probably say "pride" month.!!!, i remember watching one of the early morning daytime tv shows last 6 june and they did a "on this day in history" short and d day wasnt even mentioned

@@historicmilitaria1944 yeh I'd better get on with it, problem is I have as much actual d day stuff as I had last year....did all!!. Yeh I get you with people's ignorance, young apprentices I work with most are oblivious to everything that's not on their phones, apart from one lad who has just finished his training and he is interested in history and is a switched on person....so there's hope for the future. Yes that museum is great as I was totally unprepared for it. Apparently the actress Joanna Lumley has sponsored/put money into it!🙂🙂

The Canadian ones are a really poor design, the little strap that is supposed to hold the chargers in, is way too tight, and it makes withdrawal of the chargers very difficult.

I've also seen that the standard ammo pouches of the ww2 british soldiers was a bren pouch but they have a lee enfield rifle, where do they put their clips?
@historicmilitaria1944

In the pouches along with a grenade,and sometimes a spare bren mag,the standard pouches more or less replaced the rifle clip pouches
