When I heard the sound of those RR engines, I had flashbacks from my childhood. I am 82, Uruguayan, and in the early fifties a commercial version of the Lancaster called Avro York, flew the British South American Airways routes. They passed overhead my home at some 10 miles to the West of Montevideo's Carrasco Airport en route to Argentina and Chile.

We were at the museum early on in the effort to get it flight-worthy again. We got caught up in a boisterous celebration because they got one wheel to retract while we were there. At the time it was hard to imagine going from that state to flying, so this is great to see!

I thought #3 was the first engine to start? How come you start #4 first?

That's a question you should ask @CWHM on Twitter.

The reason 3 was started first is because it had so many of the ancillaries feeding off it, so normal practice is to start 3 first.

Since they did this to capture the audio, it world have been nice if they did it in stereo.
@GlenAndFriendsCooking

+Ron Klutts They captured it in 'more than stereo' - unfortunately the sound here was only captured in camera; I don't have access to the final mix. Sometimes the rights to certain parts of the production aren't available to everyone. Plus we weren't time code synched so matching sound to picture would be impossible. Please feel free to leave more snarky and uninformed comments - it's users like you who keep KZbin vibrant...

+Aaron Gomez This is the Canadian-built version, Mark X, of the British-designed A.V. Roe Lancaster bomber. It is not the prototype of the B-24 Liberator. The design for the Lancaster actually came from the troublesome Manchester bomber. All they did was redesign the 2-engine Manchester with 4 Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and a wider wing span and longer fuselage. Roy Chadwick designed the Lancaster. The result: a pure flying war machine that could carry up a bomb load of up to 20,000 lbs.. Only the B-29 Superfortress could carry a heavier bomb load.

I don't normally comment on KZbin but I just had to congratulate you. This could be the funniest thing I've ever read on the internet. I don't think I've ever seen a Lancaster called a B24 before :D

That is one of the single daftest comments I have ever read. No. It's an Avro Lancaster Mk X heavy bomber. It's a British designed aircraft for use in the bombing campaign against Germany in WW2. Despite what you may have seen in the movies, the British were fighting and defeating Germany for 2 years before the US joined in. We were doing it with hugely powerful aircraft which were built in the UK, crushing their navy with the largest navy in the world and stopping them from spreading Nazi hatred any further. We did it with aircraft like the Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito, Beaufighter, Typhoon, Tempest, Fury, Swordfish and with warships like Ark Royal, Warspite, Norfolk, Suffolk, Rodney, King George V and thousands of others... please, please learn.
