Okay I hear you all but think about it this way: when kanye interrupted taylor in 2009, pink was the first person to boo kanye off the stage and she gave a standing ovation for taylor trying to encourage her to stand strong. And later she was one of the first people to express what he did was wrong. And after miss americana, we know what a psychological decadence it was for taylor even with people on her side, so imagine adding loneliness to that? What if people never spoke up, and stayed silent? What would that mean? Wouldn’t their silence mean they supported kanye’s ideas about taylor? The black lives matter movement is a much, much more important area to especially speak up and not stay silent about. So it’s good that taylor decided to finally break her silence, it was the right thing to do.

People are arguing about whether or not Taylor is charitable. That wasn't the point of the question on the show. She donates a huge amount of money to causes and should be commended on it....but money is just one part of being socially aware, social activism and speaking out on injustice is the other. She doesn't do that. I'm not hating on her but she was silent during elections last year and silent at other times when major social issues are at the forefront. She has every right to be silent and others have every right to critique her for it. Being part of a democracy allows us to use our voice or not use our voice. I would also take into account the media when it comes to the outlook you've formed on protest. If they have footage of 200 people holding silence with candles and footage of 20 misguided youths trashing towns they are going to be showing the latter. Criminal acts are responsible only to the individuals who are doing them. That should not tarnish the actual meaning behind what the BLM movement is about. In one of its simplest terms its demanding that when a black person is wrongfully *killed* its known that its not just a number and it is *not* acceptable nor justifiable. I hate it when people think that Taylor does not support any causes just because She is not vocal about social issues. She does and not only does She donate money, but She also visits hospitals and spends hours there singing for kids with cancer. At the Stan Up for cancer event She sang a song She wrote for a kid who died of cancer and all the proceeds were donated to the foundation. Well, that would mean she is acting out of fear. If you only do what is right when you have no consequences to face for it that does not make you a "fearless leader" or an "alpha-type" which is what she tries to sell herself as. And yeah, it disappoints me when people celebrate other people for their "leadership" when those people show next to none. Doesn't take away from her talent, though. If people would just celebrate her for her music etc. and not project things on her she doesn't stand for it would be a different thing. Everything was different you should watch Taylor’s documentary miss America to see how she is very vocal about politics now but why she wasn’t before. She also vocal about gay rights and in the song you just quote she is vocal about gender equality.

@@jsisaza94 So? That is proving my point that she was NOT a LEADER on these issues. She waited until society had already changed in that direction before she went "yeah, I'm for that, too" She was not FIGHTING for these things, but now she is tokenizing them. You may fall for it because she is undoubtedly very skilled at marketing and "Miss Americana" (not Miss America) is just that: another marketing opportunity to stoke sympathy. (which is OK, a lot of artist have that kind of "documentary" out to show their side of the story.) Granted, "You Need To Calm Down" was not the first time she mentioned some kind of LGBTQ issue, she had the throw away line "and you can want who you want boys and boys and girls and girls" in her song "Welcome To New York" from the 1989 album. I can only say again that I don't want to take away from her talent, her beauty and I am glad she is outspoken now - but that does not mean she was a leader on the issues and I'm not going to praise her for something she has not done. Because that is an insult to people who ACTUALLY fought, risked their careers & faced consequences for their bravery & integrity.

notice Pink's giving a diplomatic answer, basically live and let live, here. Then she goes on with why she's how she is. I like that she's forthright and speaks her mind, and that you know where you stand with her, because that's who she is, public and private. Go, Pink! Good to hear what she thinks, the smart side of her, as well as the entertainer. This makes me like and respect who she is more. Not perfect, but also, pretty dang epic. Good that she stands up for things and helps out.

Spare-me-your-sorrow not at all. People go on social media to escape from politics and the real world not to see all the bad things happening. Also no one cares what celebrities have to say about politics because they’re NOT politicians

Not a fan of either artist but for the dumbfucks who said,say and will say that they do not care about what celebrities have to say about politics and governance are simply bigots. First you need to think about is, if you are capable of doing that, these celebrities pay more taxes in a year than what you will be paying in your lifetime. So they are supposed to air their grievances if they feel like it. They earned it. They have paid their due diligence. And for any stroke of miracle that you pay the same taxes as they do, why should you curtail their inherent right to free speech? Unless of course if free speech only means those wich agree with your narrowminded opinion!

Taylor was silenced for a really long time because she was pressured to do so. I'm glad she discussed it in Miss Americana. But not everyone is loud either. Dolly Parton has made a whole career out of keeping her opinions to herself. It's okay if people choose to do that too. Everyone has their reasons.
