Should've been a 2-3 day festival with that many bands on it. Totally would have flown out for that lineup if the sets were longer and there were less situations where you'd have to debate which bands to see.

One of the biggest things that happened that day was the crowd surge when Deftones played. Lots of people in the front were getting crushed to the point of passing out. Chino had to pause their set to let the crowd know to take a step back or else their set will get cancelled. I nearly saw 3 fights break out during their set! Idk if it was the heat getting to people or what but I've never experienced a concert that chaotic!

I cannot believe they tried to cram all those bands in ONE day! I mean, that’s just irresponsible. Sevendust literally lost power and just had to cut their setlist, right then and there. Unbelievable. If they had stretched this out over a whole weekend, it would’ve been amazing. All that said, the lineup was amazing, and this was basically a tribute to Nu-Metal exclusively. Also… that shit with the lines is horrible. I feel like all metal festivals and their organizers leave security as clueless as possible. From my experiences at Aftershock, no one knows shit, and everybody says something different when asked the same question. That needs to be improved at every major festival, it’s ridiculous.

As a Southern California native where the weather is almost on par with Vegas there was moments of slight heat exhaustion. The free water bottles was an amazing touch. Definitely noted the poor placement of the stages. The stages could have been strategically placed to provide extra shade to the crowd and the bands wouldn’t have been playing in direct sunlight for most of the day but no one thinks about that. Probably wanted ppl to buy more drinks.

I think the Spiral Stage's worst moment was the power going out during Melvins, which cut there set short about 15-20 minutes. The power didn't come back until after the set time for Filter to start, which made every band for the rest of the festival on that stage to start late. Also with none of the singers' ear monitors working led to a lot of delays including Ministry's set to be cut short. The biggest fuck up, in my opinion, was that the bass was turned ALL the way up on Purple Stage during Flyleaf to the point you just heard a wall of bass and virtually all the guitar and a lot of Lacey's singing were buried, making it the worst performance I saw all day (I think the sound was tuned for the following artist Death Grips which utilize a very heavy bass sound).

i worked production on spiral stage. the only time issue we had was with melvins do to the power. infact every band played their whole set. im not sure where people are getting the idea that they where cut short. even with ministrys delayed start they played their whole planned set. Ministry simply had an RF issue that cause some confusion for their self contained crew. Ministry, and the mixers, all that, was what we call "self contained" and that was all their own equpment. we ran things on time except for the band after melvins, but we where able to rotate the stage quickly the next few acts and get things going that bought us back the 5-7 minutes lost. infact i believe melvins only got cut 3 songs due to power. (which sucks but its not like they lost their whole set). fyi, they wherent really 5 minute turnaround, its more like 35-45 minute turnaround. everything gets line checked before rotate on the backside. usually we had about 5-10 minutes of chill before the rotate even. TBM was not cut short either. they played their whole alloted time as well. saying that a band gets their set cut short when they didnt themselves cut down their hour long set to their 30 minute alloted time is more of an artist issue. the only band that didnt get their whole alotted time was the melvins. despite the tone of the video backstage had a decent flow on our stage. Often the lead singers wouldnt get on stage with ears till right before they rotate which gives us no time to get their in ear mix right, so there usually will be communication back and forth from the artists even during their set. this does not mean there is an issue, and is simply expected. there was one band i forget who, who brought their own mixing consoles and desk and their "FOH Drive" had an issue of their own fault. i think it was the 2nd or 3rd band. they had an unshielded cat5 issue. band tour managers and production staff where happy with what we worked with. we didnt have any stupid issues like mainstage using the wrong kind of ethernetcable for their backup drive line causeing a clocking issue that was fucking up their pa that took them too long to figure out lol.

@@RicheyAmigoHerplerGaming Firstly, I want to say thank you for your work and your insight. It might sound from my comment that I had a shit time, but my favorite section of the festival was Filter into KMFDM into Skinny Puppy, which I thought considering that Melvins lost power was a good save and they simply had great performances. My main point was that because of the delay, however slight, made the rest of the day tricky to make it to certain bands on time and I had to miss a couple of bands I had planned to see. Of course, I understand that a festival of this size in one day will have some issues, but they were there. On the ear monitor situation, I swear The Birthday Massacre were having some sort of issue. Chibi kept looking side stage and asking for it to be turned up and generally looked upset (could have been anything I guess) and I'm pretty sure she left while the band was playing. Don't know if you have anything on that, but regardless I appreciate a look into the other side of the festival and I do hope Sick New World happens again!

My wife and I saw them here in San Antonio back in November, at a small venue called Paper Tiger, TBM were really good, Chibi was even concerned for some fans that got in a bit of a tiff, checked on them and kept going. They gave a great performance there. So when we saw them here at Sick New World, my wife was excited to see them again, but was upset and let down they ended so quickly, I know she's still bummed about it. I want to put in my personal experience from Sick New World when I went. Most of the bands I saw were from the sick stage. Stuff like Panchiko, Machine Girl, Loathe, 100 gecs, etc. The last one I saw at that stage was 100 gecs and up to that point at least, the sound quality was actually pretty good. Those bands brought a lot of energy to the table. I’ve also been really happy that security brought water for the ones in the front who have a hard time getting through the crowd to the back. It genuinely saved me right before the Machine Girl set. There was a couple points throughout the day that the heat got too unbearable and I had to sit on the side of the stages where the shade was. The water refills were a nice touch, definitely something they needed for the crowd. I hated how they ran out of lockers so quickly for people who just want to make sure there wallet doesn’t fall out of their pocket. When I bought merch, there was no locker space for it, so I had to hold it in the fanny pack I had to buy on top of it. I didn’t even know about the bands on the spiral stage getting screwed over. I didn’t see many of them (I think I only saw Melvins and Filter), but it sounded like an absolute mess. I hope if they do another one of these festivals, they take more time to reflect on their mistakes from this one and perfect it.

I was really looking forward to Cradle of Filth. Honestly there were sound issues on the main stage too, even during Korn who were the co headliner. The sound on the speakers providing audio to the middle to the back of the crowd went out halfway thru their set. The problem wasn’t resolved until the beginning of System’s set. I didn’t spend much time on the side stages, so I didn’t know how bad the issues were there. It was waaaaaay too hot out there. I had to leave and go back to my hotel for a few hours. I have no idea how anyone spent all day out there. Overall I don’t regret going, but don’t think I’d ever be able to handle another 12hr festival in the Vegas sun.

Right. Perfect concerts are when like 3 or 4 bands play that you really like. I would most likely not enjoy myself much at a show of this size, however I did go to Ozzfest 3 different times in Ohio but this crowd here is probably twice the size of a normal amphitheater crowd. For me though, I'd rather just see the bands I like when they are touring on their own, festivals are overhyped bull$hit most of the time.

I even said to my wife that I noticed the sound for Korn went low, she agreed. We were more to the side of the purple stage during Korn's set, by the hotdog vendor, near the start of the grassy area. And even when System was on, the sound wasnt...loud, the kind where you know its gonna be nothing but that long ring in your ears, it wasn't that. More to the side of, just over tolerable volume. Like when flyleaf was on, that bass hurt, though we were closer, and that was way early in the day. It was a nice festival, the audio was really our main issue, and some of the heat.

Thats because the wind was really picking up and they had to lower the speakers and the cage on stage so that really cut the sound and they weren't supposed to play with the cage down for the long. Korn also cut their set short probably because of the wind. Bummer too, I was hoping they'd played Faget or Clown or something off self titled for the festival. My friend actually had a heat stroke, she missed all of the second half! I payed $1300 for the tickets and while it was fucking awesome to see those bands, it’s hard to ignore how absolutely flawed the festival was!!! They definitely should put 2 more stages and separate the bands more in order to avoid EXTREMELY LARGE crowds, and also give more time to bands to not only set-up but also have more time than just 30 minutes. Since idk for the EXTREMELY steep price point, I feel like i deserve to see bands play longer sets than 30min! Since Death Grips, Bungle, Panchiko, and 100 Gecs all of them felt like just small demos to their other shows, like as if they were teasing their other shows idk how else to explain it. Honestly they should separate the festival to two days, separate the two big stages so that the smaller bands could have a nice stage too, add one or two more stages, and just SIMPLY NOT FOCUS ON MAKING MONEY AND ACTUALLY GIVING PEOPLE WHAT THEY PAID FOR! Because the reason they obviously didn’t separate the festival into different days is so that they didn’t have to pay staff 2 days of work.

Welcome to Rockville was this past weekend, I went to that too and was 1st in line for TOOL as well. I had the most amazing time at both events. But basically, this should have been a 2-3 day festival. The shade and cooling stations were a nice touch, the VIP area was easy to get into and out of. The only thing that annoyed me was I got a locker and they said that they required a $10 deposit for a mobile charger to charge your phone in the locker and that was after I already paid for my locker. The guy was like you didn't say you'd need a charger and I told the knucklehead that he didn't ask and I thought they'd be wired in. (my fault for not reading the FAQ) - over all my experience was an 8/10. Not to mention as well the people getting crushed during the Deftones set. My wife and I were in the crowd pretty close to the stage. The crowd split and some guy was carrying a girl in his arms completely unconscious from I presume getting squished. Shortly after that I decided to get my wife out of there. Also when we were leaving the crowd didn't know where to go to exit for some reason. After being in the sun all day long patience is pretty thin. Wasn't long before the crowd busted through the security barrier to make another exit. One of the security employees decided to get in an altercation with someone in the crowd. I was glad to get out of there and get back to our room. Overall I was glad to see a lot of these bands as It was probably the only chance we will have to see a lot of them. Damn I had no idea most of the side stage bands had that many issues. Lacuna Coil sounded good as well as Kittie. However I did catch sevendust and they lost power altogether after 3 or 4 songs. After that I went to the main stages for the rest of the day and those bands sounded great. If they ever do a festival like this again, they should do it maybe in mid April when it's not so damn hot.

Interesting video! I saw the lineup and was jealous it's in the states and you guys get everything anyway... how could a festival with such an amazing lineup be screwed up so bad. We get 1 or 2 festivals here in Australia per year that cater for metal with 20% of that lineup. Never seen any sound issues like that, what a let down!

Being up front and in the pits is what made it worth it imo, korn was the best of the headliners. VIP section was lame and way too big up front though we were getting crushed in ga and they only took up about half of their space yet somehow had less energy than the rest of the crowd.

One thing that was bad that you forgot to mention about the two small stages that during the Melvins performance both of the sick stage and the spiral stage and the other half of the venues power was completely out and had to cut the Melvin’s or some other band off mid performance and took until the time spiritbox was ready to preform to get the power back on, also when death grips we’re about to preform on the Purple stage they we’re having technical difficulties while papa roach was preforming so papa roach had to play for a few minutes longer to make up the time til death grips got on stage, then it took 15 minutes for death grips to actually start preforming and mid set in they ran out of time and the venue cut their performance halfway in a song while they were preforming. Everyone was so pissed off that they were yelling “Fuck Papa Roach” because of it.

Watching what you say was going on there, I feel second-hand embarrassement for the organizers, and I feel sorry for the bands from the side scenes. And fans too, especially since $ 400 is more or less the cost of a four-day Hellfest. As I looked at the lineup before, I thought that probably over $100 but less than $200 - because even though there are plenty of bands, you can physically see a maximum of 12 I guess. However free water is great idea! And the concept o the goth-metal one day fest isn't bad, just.. idk.. This is a lot of money to get heatstroke in place with expensive healthcare :V

I was there. I came megaprepped for the heat; clothing that covered my skin but was light and loose, plenty of sunscreen, huge water bottle but I couldn't make it past Skinny Puppy because I was so exhausted from the heat. The decision to host this as a full day event mid summer is insane. The sound was definitely the hugest issue tho. The left main stage had the most vile sound out of all the stages (which is why I was surprised when you noted the main stages sounding good, it was really only one that did). I was so excited to see Flyleaf back together again with Lacey only for them to come on and Lacey be entirely inaudible for the whole set. The crowd was basically singing for her. We couldn't even hear her when she was speaking between songs. Same issue came around when Death Grips came up on the same stage. I understand that there was little to no downtime on the sidestages to fix things because they were playing back to back but the main stages DID have time as they only played one band on one stage at a time. But nonetheless that one stage continued to have unbearable sound for as long as I'd been there. My boyfriend mentioned how this music festival was basically just a sampler because all these bands are on tour except this was the only show flyleaf played and have played in a fat moment. It was just fucking tear-worthy.

My wife and I spent my 38th birthday at the festival and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Overall I thought it was a pretty good experience although I did mention at one point that I dont know how many more of these all day festivals I can keep grinding out. We both wanted to see Alien Ant Farm and with them going on first we were there all day. 12 hours outside in Vegas makes for a rough day. The plan was to try and do half sets for bands if there were conflicting set times which was inevitable with that many bands on the lineup. We were able to see 18 or 19 bands which was pretty good.(AAF, Cold, P.O.D., Soulfly, Papa Roach, Lacuna Coil, Chevelle, Sevendust, Filter, Evanescence, Incubus, Hoobastank, Deftones, Korn, Placebo, Ville Vallo, System of a Down, Sisters of Mercy & Cradle of Filth). Basically the equivalent to a really good day at warped tour but with much higher profile bands. It did become difficult to navigate through all the people when trying to go from the side stages to the main stages. Depending on where you were standing, particularly the main stages, could make the difference between really getting to enjoy a bands set or spending the whole time being treated like a doorman for the never ending groups of people that want to push their way closer to the stage or leave the area. Basically if you weren't standing shoulder to shoulder with the person next to you, that space would be treated like it's a designated walkway. There were times when some people either lacked awareness of other's personal space or just straight up DGAF. Like I'm pretty sure that most everyone there doesn't want to be right up on somebody else nor do they want someone else breathing down their neck, yet you'd get these people that would squeeze themselves into the 1.5 ft of space between you and the next person and post up like it's the place to be. That stuff definitely got annoying but I understand it's a given with concerts and crowds. There were actual maintained bathroom facilities instead of the typical portables which was a huge plus, especially for my pregnant wife. Maybe providing additional restrooms for the women could help ease some of the lines that they were dealing with. Mens restroom lines definitely moved quicker, for the obvious reasons. Food options were pretty good and cold water was pretty fairly priced if you didnt want to wait in the long lines for the water refill stations. There were several times when we decided we'd rather just pay 5 bucks for a cold liquid death can than wait in the long refill line. One thing that my wife and I didn't care for though was that at one of the concession stands they wouldn't let you personally put in your card info on the tablets for payment and then asked if you'd like to add a tip and how much. So basically they were putting you on the spot to either add a tip or feel like a douche bag. I thought that wasn't cool. The woman working the pizza booth was also just bringing people whatever slices were available instead of what they actually asked for. I ordered a slice of cheese which wasn't ready at the moment and she brought me a meat lovers slice instead. Next guy ordered pepperoni and sausage and that wasn't ready so she brings him a veggie slice. Like WTF..just tell us to step aside after payment is made and call it out when it's ready instead of deliberately giving someone something different from what they ordered. Sevendust got hosed with the electrical outage. The power went out and it seemed like there was just a shoulder shrug and it was moving on to the next bands setup. It didn't seem like there was any attempt at even letting Sevendust finish up their set. Basically they were told that the powers out and their day was over. They should have been on one of the mainstages instead of soulfly, death grips, flyleaf or turnstile but that's just my opinion. Other than that, we didn't really experience any bad technical problems with the two side stages aside from Lacuna Coil having some sound issues. The sun straight up kicked my ass. There was a point in the late afternoon where my wife and I desperately needed somewhere shaded to sit down and we each took a little power nap, although Lacey Sturms voice was like nails on a chalkboard and a very unpleasant awakening hahaha. I actually started questioning myself if I could even make it another 6 or 7 hours for the rest of the bands. We were exhausted at that point but we stuck it out. I think this festival could benefit from adding more shaded areas and/or possibly moving the festival up several weeks to a month earlier which would be a little bit cooler outside. Overall I thought it was a fun, but exhausting experience. Perhaps having less bands would make for a smoother run festival but there were only a good handful of bands that I wanted to see and didn't get to. I don't think they necessarily need to make this a multi day festival like Aftershock or any of the other DWP festivals. I'd personally rather just have one long ass Saturday than having to take 3 or 4 days off of work and then add in the nightly lodging, meals, etc. With the cost of admission, I dont see many people being able to go to both days if it were to go the route of how When We Were Young is doing things. $1400 for a pair of tickets to a 2 day festival would be hard to swing, at least for me personally. I think this festival was overall a success and can see it happening again next year. Considering that MGM owns that property, bought it with the idea of having an annual Rock in Rio LV festival that ended up having financial losses of over $20 million dollars in its first (and only) year, desperately needs festivals like SNW and WWWY being held there to justify purchasing it. I don't know about you guys, but I've already started my mock lineup for next year haha. 🤘

Pretty much the same with us, all day there. My feet by the time System played could barely withstand my weight. We ended up leaving as they were playing arierals. It was fun but a 2 day event would have been better, we missed a couple of bands me and the wife wanted to see because we had to eat and rest. We'll see what happens next year

Great video! For me, the beginning was the worst part, but it got better throughout the day. The purple stage had a lot of audio issues early on with Flyleaf and death grips, and then when melvins lost power towards the end of their set, I was worried a lot of the bands I wanted to see either wouldn't play or would be delayed, but it seemed like they got power back on and kept the bands going on time. I saw several bands at the sick and Spiral stages after that without issues, then finished the night with Korn and SOAD who both killed it! Definitely hoping psycho fest comes back, but sick new world was a great alternative!

Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but you probably missed this detail because you were elsewhere at the moment. But when Sevendust came out, the singer asked them to turn him up within the first few moments of the first song. He was right to ask, it was low volume on him. Sevendust played maybe 2 songs and in the middle of the 2nd song BOTH of the smaller stages lost power and even those inflatable devils deflated, I happened to be standing next to those devils at that moment. That whole area tripped it's breakers. Not sure that has much to do with the sound issues. Those certainly continued as your video chronicles well. However, I believe that was the reason that the other bands became delayed. Those stages also rotated and they were already prepping band setups on the stage behind the stage that was playing. That's something you did not mention. Perhaps you didn't stick around long enough to see it happen though. I was very pleased with the festival and saw all the bands I had earmarked and saw more. I looked on Reddit and social media before I left my hotel and knew not to stand in that dumb street line and I just started walking past those folks into the real lines at the gates. It probably took less than 20min to get in. As far as dehydration, those folks probably drank too much beer, which was far more easily accessible than water. I packed a hydration backpack, liquid IV, a desert hat and cold activation towels and my wife and I were fine. I thought it was a solid lineup and some of my favorite moments were with Filter, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy and Mr. Bungle. Thanks for the video

Man hearing about how the festival turned out to be is quite sad to hear. I remember learning about the festival last month and I was so excited that such a festival like this was happening because aside from being a teenager at the time when all these bands were big and in the forefront of alternative music, I also thought it would be great to be among other people who actually still like a lot of these older bands that you don't really hear get talked about much these days. Speaking for myself, I hardly ever get to connect with people IRL about music since most people these days seem to be more into rap, hip-hop, and edm type music over rock and metal, at least in my personal experience anyway. So to be around a ton of people who actually still like and listen to this music would've been so exciting for someone like myself. And I was especially surprised to see bands like Sisters of Mercy, London After Midnight, The Birthday Massacre, She Wants Revenge, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, KMFDM, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, and Orgy be featured because I was not expecting them to actually feature some love to actual Goth and Industrial music and in theory, this would've been a great first time seeing this kinda music live. I mean I still would've been interested to go just for System of Down, Incubus, Deftones, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, Filter, and Chevelle as I grew up with these bands and would still take in the moment just to experience that nostalgia bomb. In the end, I had to pass on the festival because it just wasn't in my budget and after hearing all of this, it probably was for the best. Because despite how initially excited I was, I then remembered that Vegas is starting to go into summer and the weather is getting hotter. I'm a local of Vegas and summer always sucks, you never really get used to the heat and so picturing myself in this festival under the blazing hot sun on black pavement while the band's were all facing technical issues? Yeah no, I think I dodged a bullet even though part of me wishes I still went just to get out of the house 😅 If they do plan something like this again, they definitely need to do what you suggested like building a roof or some sort of tent to protect against the sun. That or maybe try to host the festival around October when the weather starts to cool down because yeah, it's just not worth it if you feel like you're about to have a heat stroke going to what should be a great time lol. Anyway sorry for long comment, I'm glad that you still managed to have a good time despite the problems the festival had.
