Join me in Glasbury On Wye for a short 5-6 mile walk to Hay On Wye via a section of the Wye Valley Walk. Back in 2020 my friend and I walked this section on the Wye Valley Walk but because of Storm Alex at the time there were no views. It's different now. The views towards the Black Mountains and into the Wye Valley are epic. Along the way I explore an old abandoned farm and check out a 6th C stone carved cross. With a cuppa tea in Hay On Wye it was a fantastic spring walk.

There is such poetry in this old abandoned house. I just can imagine its ancient splendour. I think that our brain is filling the gaps , and therefore, restore in our imagination, the life that abounded in this place , before. A lovely sharing, dear Mark 🌿🌿🌿

We can always count on some stunning scenery on your travels Mark. Those old Buildings were just amazing, I love places like that. I always think what that Farmhouse would have been like with a family living there, the old Range used to cook the daily Meals. I also have a soft spot for Churches and that one was definitely worth seeing, when you think how old that cross was, the imagination starts to work. Great stuff Mark Thanks 🙏👍

I love the start with "the hopeful energy of spring", just beautiful! Lovely walk except for the rain, nice to end it with a steaming cup o' tea. I also loved the ancient cross, definitely looks Celt. If i were to combine my Scot, Irish and Welsh blood I am almost half Celt, so the landscape speaks to my soul. Thanks for the splendid walk Mark!

Hi Cynthia-yeah hopeful energy that's what it is. I was good with the rain because it lasted only 15 minutes or so. Ha ha! Re-the cross for sure Celtic in origin, which you feel strongly. Brilliant Mark. Such a nice watch. Loved the start with the sun and birds. It's great to get out and you always meet some great people. I'm the same stop and chat, so nice. Old farm house. Well done having a look and sharing. The old beams in the loft you mentioned, I've seen so many of them in farm houses, for over 11 years I insulated lofts. Loved going to old farm houses, sometimes they would give us fresh milk etc. Nice you could walk around the church, 6th century! 🤯👌 Great views. Really makes me want to get back out. I wait and wait for the sun. This Saturday I'll go on mountain or hill no matter what the weather is. Great little shelter under the tree by that waterfall. I was happy seeing the buds on that tree. @@WyeExplorer It was a good watch. Be good to see more exploring there again. You do research and share many things, most I watch don't do that. Pest petrol, good on you. I was so jumpy with mice, rats and birds. Once in a farm house there was a big circle window, no glass in it. Huge old farm house I had a little 60 watt light bulb, very little light. A huge owl came through the window at me. I nearly Pooed myself. It was opening it's wings to stop. 😂 Mostly bat we came across. I'd crawl across the beams. My work mate was fine, he'd be laughing me nearly crying. It was price work, you don't do it, you don't get paid. Good memories though. For me being on a mountain is my favourite thing. Stopping for cuppa and sandwiche and taking it in. Cool bus stop you stopped at. Hopefully Saturday will be ok. I'm going there even if it has no views. Just need a decent hike. Take care mate.👍

That cross i wondered how many hands have touched it along with yours. Good that it is protected from the elements to preserve it. That was a nice explore and walk Mark, with some good views across the landscape too. What a bit of luck that was, finding both the old house and the church open. I always wonder about what happened to the folk who lived in an old house like that, how many winters did they spend there with a nice fire burning in the range. That cross, so old, the man who made it worked hard and with dedication, he never would have dreamed that so many hundreds of years later his work would still be appreciated. Hi t here Adrian, good to hear of your travels and your neighbors scouting in Glasbury. I'm sure he appreciates the photos. Re-the Bluff have a great time. I hope the young lad or girl is inspired - let's face it that North Western escarpment as you come onto the Bluff from Hay is epic. Thanks for watching - glad it brightened up your day. Mark

Great to see you on a bit of the Wye Valley Walk again Mark. Interesting fact indeed about Glasbury's distance from the confluence of the Wye with the Severn. Nice one on getting a look inside that scout hut. So glad you got a look inside that abandoned farm too, lots to see inside and no falling through floorboards thankfully 😆And that church with the amazing stone cross, that was wonderful to see. Lovely little waterfall at the end. Interesting to hear about the inspiration of the Hound of the Baskervilles, I can understand why Conan Doyle set it on Dartmoor to take away publicity from the real Baskerville Hall. Well as always Mark that was another good 'un. Hope all is well down there, all the best 👍

Lovely trip Mark. My pa was very fond of primroses too as was 19th century PM, Benjamin Disraeli. The Wye looked to be carrying a fair bit of water, which is hardly surprising considering all the rain. And how remarkable was the preservation on the 6th C cross? I wouldn't call myself a Christian either though am very much drawn to holy sites, etc. Great stuff that. ATB, Chris
