I've never been into the "bad boy" types, I always go for the good guys. I romanced Gale in my first playthrough and am romancing Wyll in my current one. I find it disheartening when people call Wyll boring or imply he and Gale are too similar just because they're both clearly good-aligned, they're so different if you pay attention and they approve and disapprove of different things. One main theme is that Wyll has stronger convictions and is duty-bound, whereas Gale is seeking redemption and normalcy. Wyll was willing to sell his soul for the powers to protect the sword coast, will leave the party if you make evil-aligned decisions and even in the end his main priority is being a good Grand Duke. If you become an illithid, that means ending your relationship (publically at least), and hiding you away from the world. This makes sense considering illithids are basically monsters, and how much he sacrificed to rid the sword coast of monsters. Gale on the other hand shies away from violence, is a people-pleaser and thus can be convinced to stay with you even if you make evil decisions. He's also easily convinced either way to leave the crown of Karsus or use it for power. He's not as power-hungry as people think, just desperate for approval. In the end - whether you're an illithid or not - he wants to go back to Waterdeep, introduce you to his mother and settle down together. Wyll is a politician and a hero, Gale is a fallen archmage who likes to cook, lol. They're entirely different.

I'm glad someone out there likes these two guys as well! I'm held in high regard by Wyll and Gale because I like helping people and animals. Sure Astarion CLEARLY has enough charm and charisma to sweettalk everybody, but he doesn't have the same refined morality i like about Wyll. The same want to do good wherever the journey takes us. I read a lot of people saying that Wyll and Gale are boring and I have to wonder if we played the same game.

great analysis on these characters, some of the best i’ve read!! to add to that, i feel like gale is more like a neutral good/lawful neutral type character and wyll is 100% a lawful good character. it’s an interesting alignment for him to be, considering his pact. i feel like people who say both wyll and gale are boring are taking their characters at face value and not looking at who they are overall and how they fit into the narrative and lore of the world, imo

It honestly hurts me to see people shit on Gale. Hell, I've read comments saying that he's a pos even though Astarion is arguably more so (but I feel like people excuse his actions/behaviour due to his trauma, so that's probably why. It's not a good excuse though because all the other companions have some form of trauma). It's nice to see people defending Gale, and even though I don't have any sort of connection with Wyll like I do with the other companions (although I am trying to remedy that because I feel like I haven't given him a proper chance yet), it's good that others love him, he deserves it!

BG3 is the first game where I actually want to go through each companion's path because they're all so different and really interesting. Wyll is endearingly straightforward and heroic; I kind of rolled my eyes at first, then he got turned into a devil after we saved Karlach and I was totally not expecting that and suddenly wanted to know where his story was going and what I could do to help. Apparently there's an option to go to Avernus with both Karlach and Wyll, and take on Zariel together. I may do a run for that ending.

Honestly, I feel like they really did him dirty for making his Act 1 and 3 Romance scene being the most lacking out of the companions, like I get that in Act 1 he's very new to his new devil form and is scared of what other people think but they could've atleast given us like a scene like Karlach's where her and Tav just sit in the campfire and kiss. It kinda sucks that you can only mainly flirt with him at the Tiefling party, and then when we get to Act 2, he will just randomly ask you to have a dance, EVEN if you didn't flirt with him before. Although at Act 3, it still feels lacking compared to the others, but I will say that he has the most poetic one. I really love his classic prince charming type of guy, and I really feel like he's really just the most romantic companion :,)

Both Wyll and Karla are probably the purest good characters. Gale seems like he's the most morally good one at the start but then you find out how power hungry he is and how much he would possibly be willing to do to get said power even, he's also the only more good aligned character that you can actually convince to stick around even if you kill the grove, Karla and Wyll just flat out leave.

Eh, it all depends on your dialogue with Gale; if you tell him to seek Mystra's forgiveness, he won't be power hungry. If you don't, then Gale does get power hungry, but you can convince him to hand Mystra the crown, and he won't be bitter about it.

100% this - Karlach seems to have had minor hero worship of Wyll before she met him, and she's there for him all the way when Mizora's being a jerk. My headcannon for my current playthrough is that she and Wyll spent a night snuggling after Dammon insulated her engine. Perhaps not romantically, but because of how touch-starved Karlach was and how much of a good man Wyll is.

I wish wouldn’t have missed the proposal somehow. I did everything else, saved his father, and had max approval with him, but I can only assume it was a bug with Act 3. Same thing happened when I tried to romance the Guardian as well. It wouldn’t trigger the final scene.

I think you need to do one or couple of long rests after that. Be sure to click on him before going to bed, sometimes he doesn't have an exclamation point in his head.

I got the act 2 scene without having to do the act 1 scene. I was very surprised, as I had thought triggering the party before I got my rep high enough with Wyll had locked me out of the Wyll romance.

Act 1 only triggers the 'interested' stage or whatever it's called. You won't be considered in an 'official' relationship until the Act 2 scene, regardless if you bunked up with someone. I.E. you won't be able to ask Astarion for a kiss until the Moonrise scene even if you took up his offer at the party.

hey im not sure if you even know but you have some great bg3 videos and I was wondering if you know how to open the wall in the hags survivors basement. I cant find anything about it and it doesn't look like you have covered the hag in act 3 yet so I thought I would comment on your latest video. the hatch to the basement is right behind the safe mayrina tells you to inspect I didn't see it until after I defeated the hag the second time and I can tell the wall has something behind it but I cant get behind. if not no worries anything helps

well after smashing my head into a wall (quite literally) I was able to mage hand at the crack of the wall (almost like I was looking through a bathroom stall) into darkness which then gave me vision of the room all that I could see were hella traps and a single opulent chest. after messing with my angle a bit I was able to misty step in and loot the chest and it had 1 Old Garlow Basement Backroom Key and Im gonna be honest and say I set off the traps when I went down the hatch and that destroyed the doors so I dont know if this key is used in the basement and I also dont know how to legit open the wall in the basement but hope this isn't useless figured id update my comment at least

… if you mean the one that you have to run down towards Marina but then turn around and run back up a secondary path and the door is on a ledge… Kill the hag, put on the mask. It makes the door so you can pass through it. Edit… For psychotic fun, don’t kill her first and put on the mask. I did that my first play through. Fighter versus the squishiest people in my party… Total wipe.

I find Wyll to be incredibly boring as a love partner. Hes very sweet and kind. Definitely a hopeless romantic and I can appreciate that. However, his desires are all very surface level. There's nothing wrong with that. It just isnt that compelling to me. The questions with Zethino are incredibly easy to answer. You could answer them without romancing him at all. Compare that to Astarion's where he prefer you hype him up or even lie rather than speak the truth. Or Gale whos questions are....kinda confusing outside of the question about his tower. Wyll is straight forward. Vanilla even. Sweet and romantic but hardly the layered lover that other partners have to offer.
