Wise man, sir. No doubt you miss your Father, but also no doubt there is comfort in knowing how proud he must be of you. Keep on keepin on, WM...voices such as yours make us who we are...and I, for one, cannot convey how grateful I am.

Deep, inspiring, and a beautiful portrait of the history of Afro-Americans forging freedom despite the difficulties and hardships of oppression. Thus, African people impacted the world on an intercontinental level, even before the evils of American slavery. For it is in the will of men inspired by the Almighty that connects them to something deeper and broader than mere race, but the transcendence of individual cultures and complexities of humanity throughout the world intersecting at the point of understanding that; we all are one and come from one. Thank you, Wynton!

Beautiful... What's with the fire suppression system ~ Is that like a studio basement + manifest music scores/ collection ? [Maybe hook up with "peeps" that know how to freeze-dry and conserve printed matter after getting soaked by water / fire brigade, otherwise you end up with Papier-mâché. @WM you are a national treasure.

This is wonderful! In music as well as many aspects of life, people try to force the complexities and ambiguities of reality into their tidy little ideologies, and they are intolerant of any challenge to their perspective. Misinformation, oversimplification, ignorance and intolerance are dominating our current musical culture. We have people claiming it's impossible for Darius Rucker to sing authentic country music because he's black, even though black people played a huge role in creating country music and have always been among the best artists in the genre. We have people claiming that white people appropriated jazz from black people, who somehow came up with it out of the blue. Me: "What about jazz's use of Western tonal harmony, which took 400 years to develop in Europe?" Them: "Analyzing jazz in terms of Western tonal harmony is imposing a racist white formalist perspective while devaluing the music's social context." Me: "Um...the tonal harmony is a result of the social context." I'm not denying that some of jazz's defining characteristics came from African Americans and ultimately from Africa. I'm also not denying that most of the important innovators in jazz were black Americans. I'm celebrating those facts. But I'm also keeping them in perspective.

So true! If, and we are all created in God’s image, then we are the only ones fixated on skin color. God looks on the heart and that is what He wants to change from our fallen state. His Story includes the remedy for this malady in the Person of Jesus Christ. The Penalty and Judgement He experienced on the cross, were for all of us. In essence we were all responsible for Him being crucified on that tree. There is no greater Love! Will you accept the free gift of salvation He offers to all? Freedom in spirit, soul and body is what He offers. Accept His Gift to regain relationship that was lost in the garden. Reject His Gift and be forever separated from Him for eternity. The choice is ours, using another gift He has given to all of us, free will to accept or reject, to enter into true Freedom or stay a slave to sin!
