I've noticed about a $12-$20 per month increase in my electricity bill while using the Coolbot (depending on hang-time). That cost...plus the satisfaction/safety/knowing its YOUR deer = priceless! I once had a buck in my cooler for 33 days! My wife said "whatever you did to that last deer...do it again! The meat was PERFECT! ...and it tasted perfect, too! Don't EVER let anyone tell you that dry-aging doesn't work on venison...it sure as heck DOES! -- "Aero" Joe

When using my cooler we are coming out of summer so our house A/C probably isn’t running as much so our bill is basically the same. I totally agree with the aging. The (mule) deer you see in the video spent exactly 20 days hanging. I killed him in the peak of the rut and he is every bit as good as the alfalfa fed whitetail I killed in October

Ac was invented to keep gun powder dry for us army as a by product of removing the moisture the air is cooled ie you wont notice any moisture issue ever if the window unit drains to outside of your cooler

I personally doubt that story. In order to build a dehumidifier you first have to know the principles of refrigeration. So the dehumidifying effects would have come as a by product of cooling the atmosphere, not the other way around. (In my opinion) One story I heard was that, in hot British colonies, there was often issues with malaria. There was no cure but quinine helped keep the symptoms under control. In order to make the quinine more palatable the Brits would put it with gin and also add CO2 to give it a little fizz. It then became apparent that the compressed bottles of CO2 became cold as their pressure was released. From this the first refrigeration methods were developed. I'm not totally sure I believe this one either. There have been so many of these stories, it's hard to know which ones to believe.

use a washer in the strut instead of the strut nut that way you can slide the hook around. then use a wing nut on the bottom side to easily hand tighten to hold position. Its what i did and works great

I can see it as a opportunity to process any thing. You have 100 lbs. of tomatoes at the end of season. This will give you more time to process you tomatoes during canning time. Tomato juices one day, sauce the next and another day to make some salsa. Ripe tomatoes go bad fast in the heat. After canning season shut her down. Sounds like a short term root cellar to me. Enjoyed the video.

Yes definitely! A high tech root cellar. I only use mine seasonal and there’s no winterizing or maintenance needed.

Instead of uni strut you could use barn door rails. There meant for vertical load and they sell different kinds of rollers so you can move the meat around easier.
@TRUTHBMXracing
@TRUTHBMXracing 11 ай бұрын
They specifically make rollers and trolleys for unistrut and they are also easy enough to make using bearings and plate steel. Way more affordable that barn door hardware. He just didn't do any research.

How much weight you think your rail can handle. Me it's mostly mooses that I am looking at putting in cooler.Where did you purchase your rail?BTW you have an excellent setup 👌
@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve had a cow elk, and two mule deer bucks all hung in it at the same time so it will hold quite a bit of weight. It is strut, you can buy it at an electrical supply store or even Home Depot.

Do the eye bolts and strut nuts slide up and down the rail easily with the meat or are they stationary?
@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. Жыл бұрын
No they actually don’t slide at all. The strut nut is set up to bind into the rail. The strut nut is rectangle so you can push it up through the rail where ever you want and turn it and it locks into the rail. You do not have to slide it in from the end. My cooler is small enough that I don’t need the meat to roll on the rail.

How cold is the out side temp before the window unit stops working correctly?
@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never really tested it like that. I would assume the CoolBot would tell the A/C it’s cold enough and the fan would only run. I did have a deer in the cooler last November into December. It was mid 40’s when I put the deer in and single digits when I cut the deer up. I never paid attention to the cooler I shut it off when the temp dropped. Deer was quite frozen when I cut it up. Right now my outside temp is low 20’s and the cooler without it running is a few degrees warmer.

@@NickW.H.so you ran your window unit while it was 40s outside and still worked? Have you ever tried running your window unit/cooler set up when it was in 30s?

@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. Жыл бұрын
I can’t remember the model of my A/C and I can’t get into my shed right now with all the snow. If you go to storeitcold.com they can tell you exactly which A/C to use for your set up.

Just starting to do research on this I have an off-grid hunting cabin run by generators would these unit still work off of a generator system thanks
@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. Жыл бұрын
Yes as long as the generator is big enough to power the a/c unit. I think it’s around a 4000 watt generator that is needed for an a/c.
@kwadjoglenn3759
@kwadjoglenn3759 10 ай бұрын
So the back end of the a/c sits outside correct? If so, is there a minimum outside temperature that would cause this set up not to work? What’s the lowest outside temperature in which you have used this set up?
@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. 10 ай бұрын
I have actually run mine when the temps were below freezing over night and in the 40’s during the day. Probably didn’t need to run it at all.

How big should I build my cooler to hang a couple of mooses.
@NickW.H.
@NickW.H. 2 жыл бұрын
I quarter everything that goes into my cooler. Mine is 4 foot by 6 foot I believe and I’ve hung two deer and an elk at the same time. It was kinda tight but I could still put more in there if needed.
