Fertilizing your hydrangeas will give you such beautiful blooms!

If you have hydrangeas, spring is the time to fertilize them! Here’s how to do it! As always, make sure to check your soil for its existing acid level.

My mom planted ONE hydrangea plant, gorgeous purple and pink petals, and somehow it decided one year that it was going to grow 12+ feet tall. Our neighbors were incredibly jealous lol.

Our neighbors keep planting them and it’s so annoying because they get so freaking tall and start growing on our side of the yard. I guess it’s all relative lol 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a hydrangea that I have had for over 30 years actually almost 40 years. Before I learned about that blue hydrangea fertilizer some years, it would turn pink. Now I use it heavily in the spring, and my hydrangeas are always blue.

You can also use peat moss around all of your acid living plants like rhododendrons, azalea etc. No need to buy an expensive fertilizer.

They are pink in alkaline soil and blue in acidic soil. Therefore if you want the opposite color, make your soil acidic for blue blooms or more aklaline for pink blooms. One year, i experimented and stuck rusty nails down in the soil around my hydrangeas that were always blue. They turned purple! Those were really beautiful too!!❤i love all hydrangeas. Those mopheads are always gorgeous no matter the color!❤🎉

I've gotten some pink hydrangeas off the clearance rack from a box store. Once they're established, can I make the soil more acidic and turn them into a darker pink purple or blue?

Awesome. I use Scott’s Super Bloom every two weeks to keep the Hydrangea blooming all summer. I did add the supplements you suggested earlier this spring to keep my pinks pink. Now I am waiting for the results.

They can be blue by adding acid fertulizer! I live in Texas too....east texas where our soil is mostly acidic ....remember pine trees love acidic soil too!❤@HappyTX..azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons, blueberry, and hydrangeas all do well here in East Texas where our soil is mostly acidic and very near pine trees too here in The piney woods ofEastTx!❤❤

Beautiful , great tips . May I ask what the name of your white Hydrangea is? Mine has cooked In the sun today , most of the leaves are crispy . I cut them off and put in shade and I think I may have killed her tonight because I fertilized her with tomato fertilizer. This is one of the hardest plants to learn about . I’m new to gardening can you tell ? Lol , thanks a bunch

I have obviously been too conservative with my fertilizer, 😮 Next spring I ain't holding back, I bought a PeeGee and grew 4 other plants from cuttings I got them planted all over my yard and not a bloom one and the mother plants like four or five years old 🥺 I have been ready to give up and yank it up and get rid of it I'm so over it🥴, I love hydrangeas so much that they're my favorite and I've been gardening for 40 years, but I will be changing up the recipe for next year, and adding what you suggest an wish me luck 🙏

Yes it will but you just wont see flowers for awhile cause they only bloom on old wood, not on new wood😢😅❤@karen johnson.

It depends on the variety. Newer ones come back on new wood and/or new and old wood. Older varieties come back from old wood only.
