You know I sit tonight and listen. Back in the 1980's, my best friend and his girlfriend at the time went to see "X" at a theatre across the street from where we worked, a gas station. It was in Santa Barbara California at the Arlington Theatre and I was either 16 or 17. I didn't care for punk, I was a "metalhead" and a mobile deejay playing freestyle/funk. I worked that night as the marquee shined with "X" and the crowds that were in line! Years later I continued deejaying and couldn't stop playing mostly new wave/punk, goth, metal, the privilege of growing up in So Cal with all the wonderful music and cruising LA/Hollywood. I turn 60 this year and still deejay on the internet and I play this great music, but I regret that I didn't buy a ticket to that one concert across the street to see "X." You are awesome and you bring back memories to a simpler place and time with every song I play.....viva "Los Angeles!"

I went to see X at a San Diego club just when they started getting air play on KROQ in the 80s. What a phenomenal band, with the coolest mix of personalities. John Doe and Exene wrote and delivered incredible songs and vocals. Billy Zoom with the smile glued to his face while he rips off Chuck Berry riffs like a flame thrower was (and still is) my favorite. What an amazing band. Glad to see they stuck with it.

My g-d I can't get enough of this song. "stay Awake and don't get taken" is chilling moving and heartbreaking to me here on the Canadian prairies with the MMIW crisis. I've loved this band almost all my life, I suppose...It's been 40 plus years since 19 year old me heard Wild Gift at a party and it felt like I had known those songs all my life.(Exene casually throwing off her gem lyrics like "Let's not talk about bombs or the brain impulses of severed limbs" ....I was...AGOG) And then they played the university ballroom (Mac Hall in Calgree)a few months later (I could be wrong but I feel like it was a double gig with Los Lobos?) and a couple of months after that I had a band of my own. Exene truly was the voice that launched a thousand bands. Is it time for an X tattoo yet? I missed the boat on getting a Germs burn.
