Star Wars would definitely fit in a tactical turn base X-Com-esque formula imo, we already have the Clone War so why not make a tactical game off of it? Would be interesting to see the lesser side of the war like no jedi just you and a bunch of clone troopers stuck in a situation where you're cut off from the rest of the army or maybe a captured jedi situation where you escape from a cell and recruit fellow troopers trapped in other cells as you escape while trying to find your confiscated lightsaber.

There is also a CIS mod in the works, so far only ADVENT units such as Troopers, Officers, Lancers, basically standard units. The aliens, the MEC units and the Chosen remain unaltered. Though available, it's still a work in progress.

What about a mod where you play as Mandalorians vs the Empire (for example, lore-wise it could be that the Empire tried to "seize" Mandalore, which pissed the Mandalorians off enough that some of them outright turned hostile to the empire and are now fighting the Empire themselves, but they are not necessarily affiliated with the Rebellion, as they may just want the Empire off of Mandalore and to hell with the Rebellion or Empire once that's taken care of)? And maybe "you" play as someone like "Mandalore the Liberator"?

seems like playing from the Empire's point of view would fit a lot better from XCOM Enemy Unknown/Within's storyline.. since there you're playing a World Organization that's trying to repel a bunch of invaders/terrorist aliens.

Nice. Now I need to do another XCOM campaign! BTW, there are Warhammer 40 k mods that also make for an unique campaign. Don't remember the name exactly, but it was similar to armors of the imperium. The character personalization is insane. You won't have 2 similar space Marines. You can also add chaos space Marines as an opponent that fights both you and advent

Theres a bunch of mass effect mods that I Love. They add a bunch of different mass effect races that include animated heads, and custom arms, torsos, and legs to match them all. You can basically get your entire squad from all the mass effect games and then custom make your own characters. Then there's the ME weapon mods, voice packs, even one that changes all of the people that work on the avenger to have the outfits of your crew from ME. Really makes it feel like you're fighting against the reapers after they attacked earth.

I adore RPG progression, or whatever the mod is called. Essentially, each trooper gets a random pair of starting abilities as they pass through the first rank hurdle, and after that, when they'd be able to progress their class for the first time, there's instead an expanded 14+ branch skill tree that you can mix and match any way you like. Obviously this won't play well with custom classes and such, since your normal troops no longer have classes, but it gives you the ability to customize and evolve your army in all sorts of ways. It should also be mentioned that this fluctuating system applies to soldier stats as well, like health, speed, will, base dodge and armor values, and aim. Rather than automatic stat growth per rank up, you now earn points on each soldier which can be invested either to upgrading base stats or to gaining new abilities. So, if you want to, you can have a character dip into half a dozen trees and have all kinds of special skills, extra utility slots, etc... but, they'll be as slow and fragile as a rookie. Or, you can focus on high stat growth, cranking up mobility, durability and hit chance, at the cost of utility in tactical combat. In short, it adds so many ways to build up your squad that go above and beyond what any custom class mods will do, because _every_ class is a custom class.
