Alicia Chocolate I hate these joint names, with passion. But I will agree that they are great together. The Mulder-Scully relationship reaches far beyond a normal "shipping", as it is called. Their bond is one everyone should have in their life, if we only lived in an ideal world. Be it romantic or just friendly, everyone should have this sort of partner. One that understands them, even without necessarily aggreing with their opinions. It is the ability to listen to each other, even without taking each other seriously; and respecting each other without being convinced by each other's arguments, that makes them special. The fact they do not fight to belittle the other's opinions, but argue their opposite points towards a fruitful solution to a problem - with no grudges or need to belittle the opponent - enriching each other in the process. That is what makes them special. If you take all this in the account, it is no wonder they love each other. Such relationship is so damn precious it should be an X-File in itself.

Shipping often involves a largely hypothetical love relationship between two characters, but Mulder and Scully actually had a love relationship--perhaps the strongest ever on TV. Whether it would/should eventually evolve into a romance (Shippers) or stay platonic (Noromos) was the big debate at the time, but the relationship was always real and pretty frequently on display. The characteristic subtlety with which it was handled sometimes made it seem like normal shipping, especially to non-regular viewers, but there were times when it was anything but subtle. They might have avoided saying things like "I love you" for many seasons, but why say it when you can show it, and they most certainly--and repeatedly--did!

Gosh, I love the way David plays this scene; his heartfelt expression after saying 'I love you' and then the sort of half sigh of defeat after she walks away. They both acknowledged that they didn't get on in the early days, but it wasn't because they hated each other, it was because they spent so much time working together, doing 13 hour days, sometimes six days a week. They never hated each other, they got on each other's nerves. If they had hated each other they wouldn't have gone on to be friends who love spending time together and who clearly have a special bond. I have seen them together in real life and their affection for each other is genuine.

+Mia OnYT Well, Scully was the eternal skeptic, wasn't she? :) Actually, she knew that Mulder loves her and that she loves him, but the way he said it kind of implied a romantic relationship, and he was talking kind of crazy at that moment anyway, so why should she have taken it seriously? I think the point of this scene was that Mulder was serious (about not just their obvious love, but in a romantic way on top of that) but deliberately chose to tell Scully precisely when she wouldn't take him seriously. This allowed him to acknowledge the truth to himself and the audience (a big huge wink and a "bone" thrown to the shippers) without making it canonical to the show just yet. Carter and company were nothing if not devotees to the art of the tease. ;) But of course they didn't only tease--apart from the romance aspect, they gave us, I think, the greatest and most powerful love story ever told in this medium.

There were definitely a lot of hints in season 6 that things were heading into romantic territory with Mulder and Scully. I can only assume it had something to do with their almost kiss between seasons 5 and 6, because that's really the only thing that changed. Maybe for the first time, they were both starting to recognize an attraction between them that they'd always had but simply pushed to the side. He kept dropping suggestions that he wanted more, but she had a tendency to brush him off, like we see here.

One of my favorite episodes, I love it. The thing that I liked more about this episode and the kiss, is that they are destinated to fell in love, no matter when or how. Scully is the one also in 1939, and same for Mulder. It's just about chemistry, fate. You can feel and touch the love between them, it's one of those rare and pure love that just fights time and space.

I think she did believe him. I think she was scared of losing herself to him and his quest. Also mulder was a bit emotionally stunted. I think if you look at his ex's they ruled him and so he was one scared their relationship would go south and he'd lose his best friend but also he was waiting for her to make the move.

That's the great thing about them though. The words were never really needed because actions speak so much louder than words and you only had to look at the way Mulder gazed at Scully and his emotional reactions to her, and you could clearly see that he adored her. Even the way he touched her was so tender, respectful and full of devotion. This is the man that loved her so much that he: - Told her out straight that because the FBI took Scully from him he saw no point of staying in the FBI without her by his side (S2) - Completely lost it when she was abducted, stopped shaving and sleeping, barely functioned, was so violent in his grief (choking Duane Barry, pulling a gun on CSM, fighting with X, wanting vengeance and ready to give up his badge and the x-files for it etc.) and acted like he lost a lover instead of a friend. - Wore her mother fucking cross to be close to her even though he didn't have religious faith. - screamed the hospital down when she was returned and threatened everyone that got in his way. - Cried in such despair in his apartment. - poured his heart out to comatose Scully (oh yeah it was the strength of Mulder that brought Scully back too). - became incredibly over protective once she was returned and ended up screaming "SCULAAAAY" and running like speedy Gonzalez every time she was in danger for the rest of the series. - "you are the only one i trust" in 'wetwired' as well as him looking like it was his own funeral when he had to go identify Scully's possible body at the morgue. - Looked like his world was falling apart when he learned of her cancer and saw it's effects. - nearly collapsed when he saw her in her final stages as he came out of hiding from being dead in the redux arc. -looked at her in such total adoration when he finally got to talk to her afterwards. - was about to make a deal with the devil (CSM) to save her, meaning completely go against his own ideals and everything he stood for..for Scully. - the heart wrenching scene of him screaming in silent anguish at her bedside in the middle of the night while holding on to her for dear life. - broke into the mother fucking pentagon to find a cure. I could keep going on right till to the end of the series and the continuation series but i'll leave you with; ya know that saying about loving someone to the ends of the earth - well Mulder went to the ends of the earth in the 1st movie (Antarctica) to rescue the love of his life. He entered a nightmare filled spaceship to rescue his Scully from vicious aliens. So Mulder never needed to say the words because he loved her in every look, touch and devoted action, as did she.
