X-Men '97 Emotionally Traumatized Me! - Episodes 5 & 6 Review and Reaction!

I think I can speak for many of us when I say - I was NOT prepared for episode 5! The entire dynamic between Rogue, Magneto, and Gambit disturbed me - and I was completely crushed by the ending! Rogue's sad words at the conclusion of the episode! At least there was a little positivity with episode 6 and my girl Storm got to be showcased again (in one of her best outfits of all time)! I will most likely uplaod 7-10 all together on here a couple of days after episode 10 premieres. Hope you guys have been enjoying the show as much as I have!

Scott was completely right and justified for what he said. It wasnt spending time with Magneto that caused him to go off. The world did that.

Agreed, disagreeing with him really shows privilege. Imaging having to constantly prove you're not sub-human because you're different. "That's not the way to go about it" is like trying to say he shouldn't have a voice, all he did was give his (factual) opinion it's not like he did anything radical.

Magneto didn't manipulate Rogue! He just Showed her his view of earth! He often says : If you are a Mutant, then choose for yourself! And everybody has to Accept that: Magneto was right!

Thank you! I find it funny I only see that claim from Gambit fans. Magneto even said he was surprised she visited him in ep 2 thinking she was done with him. How is that manipulative!?

I was 6yrs old when X-Men TAS first aired in '92, I've read the comics my whole life, I learned how to read thru X-men comics, I've seen all the movies, etc. Let me tell you... Get ready for the best X-men adaptation ever created. X-Men '97 >>> EVERYTHING

9:49 Yeah...I was FLOORED that they did this plotline. The Mutant Massacre is one of the worst moments in X-Men history & they didn't baulk at the horror that happened. While not graphic, it lets you see the desperation & hopelessness everyone felt in that moment.

Its not normally Sinister's MO yo use sentinels but him making a kaiju monster out of sentinels to lure in scott and Jean to experiment more with their genes makes sense for his character

The X-men know he’s alive, they were literally there at the end of season 5 when the Shi’ar took Xavier, that’s why the never say he’s dead, they say “gone”.

This show kinda implies they're not entirely sure when Jean remarks that Scott was upset because they received his death certificate. It's the only reason that might have upset him.

I don't know if Mystique was ever Magneto's girlfriend. Sure, that was a thing in the movies, but I had the impression that she sort of loved him and was loyal to his cause with and had stars in her eyes second. I never thought they were together. I could be wrong, but at least prior to the films I've never seen a comic with that pairing. Actually still never, as far as I remember.

How are you blaming Magneto for Scott snapping??? Scott literally just lost his son, and he didn't need Magneto to feel resentment about humanity looking down on mutantkind despite all the X-men have done for them. Also, Magneto is not manipualting Rogue. Stop infantilizing her. In the comics she ends up with him in a few timelines, they have a son together. Its a viable relationship choice.

One of the things that's so frustrating about this show is that Rogneto was not needed at all, Rogue and Remy have plenty of drama without that awful plot that makes her look so foolish.

This show actually made me love Rogneto, it was one of the best plots. And she dosn't look foolish from it, she looks human. People take the ability to touch for granted.

Having Magento and Rouge being former lovers was just wrong so so very very wrong. Rouge never even had any interest in Magento in the 90's animated series. Just because it happen in the comics which they clearly got that idea from. Doesn't mean that they should have put it in animation. It should have never happen in the comic books anyway. What were the comic book writers thinking back then didn't they know how wrong and sick it was? I like x-men 97 but if there's one thing I wish that they didn't put on the show it would be definitely be that one.

I couldn't agree more. She was clearly interested only in Gambit, and Magneto didn't look for a girlfriend. I can see how the creators used the drama within the second part of this episode - a girl has to choose between two men, breaks their hearts and then loses both. But it doesn't really work within the episode (there's a whole love square Madelyne-Scott-Jean-Logan), and of course it's unneeded at all. The writers of the show have some very good and some very bad ideas.

No, it was very very right. Literally every plotline in this show is from the comics and that's why the show is so good, not sure why you say they "clearly" got that from thre when its obvious in every other plotline lol. They could easily have been hiding it in the 90's series as they explained. Its not sick, its a geniuine relationship. And she even ends up with Magneto and they have a son in some alternate timelines.

Im so glad you noticed how much of a manipulation this seems to be on Magneto's part. In an attempt to catch up and be ready to watch xmen 97, i watched the 5 seasons of the og series. I noticed in season 4 and 5 after the disaster of asteroid M, magneto was seraching for his former wife. He was concerned for his son quicksilver. When the phalanx attack he was almost ready to die. He is an older man probably in his 60's canonically in this series. Its clear he wants to settle down with someone he loves. And its clear he was rogues teacher and now kinda her boss. So many fans blame rogue for her role in this ship but imo its clear magneto manipulated her then, and is doing now since he wants to settle down and just rsise Xavier's children-the xmen.

That version of Magneto never did anything like that. They retconned his past as well as many other things, and even changed some parts of his personality. It's kind of the same but not really if you can notice that. This Magneto is like a Magneto from a parallel universe, very similar yet different.

That seems close enough imo with rogue that he wanted to get back in a relationship with her and groomed her to be in one with him. He is a villain after all. @@Thed538dhsk You mean season 4 of Animated series? I remember he was lured to High Evolutionary's trap by that. He said in that episode that he thought about his love for his wife every day. After a couple of decades since she left him! Pleading who he thought was her to be with him and looking for a girlfiend is not the same. Or you mean something else because you say she was his former wife. I asked myself what was different since episode 1 (besides the obvious things like his outfit). His speech, for example, is not exactly the same. It's like with paintings - the same technique, but different objects/themes/colors, and you can see it was created by another artist who learned from the one whose works you saw earlier. Magneto used to speak in a simpler way that was beautiful but made his point clear without unnecessary words. He was more energetic and straightforward, ready to fight, to lead an army. I think, that version of him would have tried to agree with Cyclops that they needed to train more (the Xmen always did that but not enough recently), and they'd have started it immediately. He'd have made them more vigilant. They had to respect Xavier's will (so couldn't refuse to follow Magneto) and distrusted Magneto himself, but he'd have used both things and led them in a way that woulld have shown them they could trust him without the court or anything outside of their "normal" save-everyone life. I could mention some presonality traits but that might be unclear as those are more or less psychological terms.

Then when he is her employer/boss he tries getting with her again despite knowing she's with gambit. Then he offers her queen of genosha to try to be with her. He admits he wants to be with her. He is trying to manipulate her to be with him
