There's a trilogy of novels by Christopher Golden published in 1996 called "Mutant Empire" and there's a scene in the prologue of the first installment where Magneto reflects on being a child in Nazi-occupied Poland. So that idea has been around. I believe that's also referenced in the 90s animated series in the 2nd Magneto episode when Charles probes Erik's mind in the chemical works and there are flashes of tanks in a war-torn battlefield and a young Erik crying for his parents.

That's a very interesting idea to have Magneto to be the one to unleash Jean Grey's power. Good speculation even if it's in continuity or not. One idea that it effected her and not anyone else would be that it is said the Magneto helped make cerebro, and on part 2 he rearranged the make shift cerebro to target humans, then on 3 he Prof X says that he put up blocks in Jean's mind, most likely using cerebro. So probably the make a mutant machine was used with the same equipment as cerebro.

CL, You've gotta look into/talk about the early ideas for X3 in the TLS podcast. Read into it before? Some VERY interesting pitches. Some stuff for Cyclops that would have been fantastic.
@goodfellas100112 жыл бұрын
Also on First Class, Shaw used a machine that was similar to what Magneto used on part 1. So it's pretty well connected but you kinda have to do the writers job for them and put the pieces together yourself.

The X-Men 1.5 DVD does give you the option of watching the scenes put back into the movie. Also, Dougray Scott had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with Mission Impossible 2, not because he'd rather do one over the other.

Great podcast! You guys mentioned how there should be a director's cut; did you know that 40 to 45 minutes were cut after preview screenings? I know 1.5 was supposed to be an extended cut with a Storm and Cyclops prologue reinstated. The scenes were scripted but never filmed during production. Singer was going to film them during the production of X2, but for whatever reason, didn't.

Using the time travel element in DOFP, they could identify X-men 1, 2, and The Wolverine continuity as an alternate timeline to First Class's new continuity, so that are no "errors". There plan is to cross-over both timelines and have a huge battle sequence against the Sentinels.
@Geekvolution12 жыл бұрын

@Crimson2812 жыл бұрын
I'd say check it out because it was a slight improvement over seasons 3 and 2. Just watch it whenever you have spare time, maybe once a week or something. They never recaptured the pace and writing of the 1st season but this was watchable and consistent (for the most part).
@TheComixkid209912 жыл бұрын
I'm glad that I'm not the only person who likes to think that First Class is NOT a reboot. But Cap, would you be able to tell us where you got the info that Days of Future Past is definitely going to "fix" the continuity problems of the previous films? I would love it if that was true, but I just haven't seen anything about that. In fact, I have seen very little info about the film other than the name.
@5keeper7ful12 жыл бұрын
I think that "Days of Future Past" will say that the continuity of First Class is an alternate timeline to that of X 1, 2, and the Wolverine, with using the time travel element. That would easily explain away the tons of errors, and make sense of why it doesn't match up with the originals. The plan is to do a cross-over both timelines/continuities with a huge battle against the Sentinels. I like to compare with the Star Trek reboot and original series timelines, different but still similar.

I have to admit...I love Evolution. Then again, that might be because that was actually what introduced me to the X-Men. I never even knew about the comics until years later, after the first two movies came out (in context, I was in the fourth grade when X2 came out) and I never really channel surfed when I was younger, besides switching from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Zoog Disney, Toon Disney, and occasionally Kids WB. I turned on Fox for Digimon and that was it.

Where was the Rebekah Romajn cameo in first class? I could never find it. Yes of course not in functionality, Shaw and Magneto didn't have the exact same plan. But it pretty much looked the same and was constructed similar and had a similar effect (what I mean is the vibration that came off of Shaw and Magneto when they used the machine) as the one that Shaw used. And whatever First Class should have been, it obviously wasn't their intention.
@johnnyfive22211 жыл бұрын
I think that he meant that she wouldn't carry a film like Rogue would. Because Rogue was more popular then Jubilee or Kitty Pryde at the time I think. But I wouldn't have mind to see Kitty or Jubilee as a main character in the next movies.

I can see them introducing them as if they've been around for a long time but nobody believes they really exist and with Marvel's 1st X-men movie under their banner they could have them expose themselves to the world in their 1st movie and then we get the good ole classic every body hates and fears them and blah, blah, blah... I believe it could be done... and with AVX still being in popular mindsets it probably would be the next big Marvel teamup movie!

I don't think X-Men First Class should be considered a prequel to the X-Men trilogy. I think it could be looked at as both a reboot or a prequel but it's pretty much both. It is it's own thing but could also stand as a straight sequel to the trilogy. But I guess that's just me

In what sense? He didn't have any machine that turned humans into mutants. Aesthetically maybe, but not at all functionally. And honestly, FIRST CLASS should have just been a reboot and there are some thing I just don't see fanwanking fixing. Xavier says he met Eric when he was 17, which in FC is obviously not the case. Beast is shown to have invented Cerebro, not Charles and Eric. Xavier and Magneto split up before meeting Jean, etc. It's a requel like INCREDIBLE HULK and SUPERMAN RETURNS.

True, but to me that feels so lazy. If they really cared that much to have it all in the same continuity, they should have made sure on al these things with the first film. And since they're brining in old actors from the original films it's going to detract from the level of focus and development of the characters introduced in FIRST CLASS. The people they should be focusing on in its own sequel. If it were the fourth or fifth sequel maybe, but it feels to early to do something like this.
@johnnyfive22212 жыл бұрын
disagree with you kirk on x-men holding up. Yes it does but it's no where near good as batman was. But it was still great but Cap was right with it's cheesy 90's style.
