I just got done listening to this, and I found it really enlightening! I enjoyed it very much, and you both brought up a lot of interesting points! Although I like the film very much (it's my personal favorite of the Batman films), you brought up things I never even thought about. For me, personally, although I appreciated that you tried to put things into context for those who don't want to watch the movie along with you, I find that your thoughts made much more sense when watching the film.

And I always interpreted seeing Batman walking away as a combination of Cap's belief that he's not receiving any necessary information by that point...and it's attempt to show him as a figure of efficiency...a blunt instrument. Instead of negotiating or coming up with an elaborate scheme of infiltration, he takes the direct approach into the bank because, well, he's Batman.

Also this soundtrack was great as well I agree with you. I loved Seal's song on it. This still is my favorite batman film of the originals and I always watched it as a kid more then the others. And I also found it weird that Batman walked away from Chase at the beginning lol. And Bruce's flashbacks were creepy. Very well done. I just wished they wouldn't have cut those out.

@geekvolution. Hey guys, I know that Nolan did not want the Riddler in his Batman movies due to him not being an imposing force. However, I believe a movie with the Riddler should channel certain movie plots such as Die Hard 3 and Speed to make a movie with the Riddler interesting. How do you feel about this?

I love the character parallels in this film. Batman/Bruce Wayne in the center, and you have Riddler who wants to be Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson who wants to be Batman. And you have Two-Face, who embodies the duality of it all. Two-Face hates Batman and Riddler hates Bruce Wayne, not knowing the same guy is their main enemy until the end. (this aspect could have been played up better). Bruce has his own dual identity struggle, between being Batman for Dick or being Bruce for Chase.

I've said for a long time, that if Tommy Lee Jones played that role serious and quiet, his chemistry would work so well with Jim Carrey bc his character would have been annoyed and angry at Riddler all the time and considered killing him most of the time. I'm glad that these guys mentioned that as well.....Batman Forever really is not a bad film, btw. It gets bad heat because its lighter than Burton films, but its a solid action adventure version of Batman, I enjoyed and still enjoy it to this day. In fact, I like it more than Dark Knight Rises which has 20 minutes of Batman and is boring. The Robin in this version is much better than the Robin in Dark Knight Rises.

To be fair, the "camp" in both "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin" were not Schumachers fault. They were parents/studios fault who told him to make it lighter and more child friendly, if you seen films like "The Lost Boys" and "Phone Booth" which are dark and convinces me that Schumacher could actually direct a good Batman movie (he even wanted to make a film based on Batman Year One for god sake) and in my opinion better than most of Tim Burtons film (minus Ed Wood)

One little disappointment I have: I was hoping you guys would discuss whether Keaton's Batman would've fit this movie since he was originally attached. I find it hard to picture, but Keaton said he ultimately walked because he and Joel Shumacher didn't see eye-to-eye. Recently, Shumacher, Keaton and even Kilmer have pointed to Batman Begins and said that was the movie they wanted Batman Forever to be. Also, any thoughts on whether Robin Williams would have been better than Jim Carrey?

I heard the reason Tommy Lee Jones was over the top was so not to be upstaged by Jim Carrey. They wanted to play him straight to contrast Riddler's goofiness, but he went against what Joel Schumacer wanted, frequently disobeying him because he was afraid of Jim Carrey outshining him.

first time listening to this commentary I have to say I agree with you guys on several things. I also liked Val Kilmer as Batman. He was great and very underrated. And I am glad that you guys stood up for Maggie in the Dark Knight. People calling her ugly was just mean just because she is not as hot as Nicole Kidman. I also thought she was attractive. My only complain is Manos ripping Joseph Gordon in Dark Knight rises. He just comes off as a raging Dick Grayson Fan boy. But the rest was great.

I agree with you. As much crap as Schumacher got (deservedly so) for being "camp", Returns also had as much if not more camp piled into that piece of garbage. People have selective memory because Burton used such a bleak color palette but look at the performances outside of Keaton and Gough, who were the only actors treating this film like a Batman film, and you'll see over the top acting all around.

You idiots and your prequel bashing. I know you have nostalgia goggles dragging you into loserville, but the Original trilogy has horrible cheesy dialogue too. The Original trilogy has just as many things that make it ridiculous but NO ONE SEEMS TO REMEMBER THAT. Also, I want you to remember that although the prequels might not fit "Your Vision" STAR WARS is GEORGE LUCAS' CREATION. Therefore HE HAD FINAL SAY IN THE MAKING OF THE PREQUELS. It is HIS STORY and HE DID IT HOW HE WANTED.
