The ‘my mom knew a guy’ reference is from the comics both Wanda and Pietro were Magnetos kids in the comic (which later was changed due to the MCU not having the rights to X-Men characters) so this was a subtle nod to that
@jacfalle27
@jacfalle27 Жыл бұрын
Huh, I never knew it was changed. I last read comics in the 90s, I still viewed them as Magneto’s kids. Even with the MCU, I was under the impression that it would eventually tie back to Magneto once they got the rights to mutants again. 🤔

Just to add onto this point, that's part of the reason why it's such a meta screwball when Evan Peters shows up in WandaVision to play "Pietro Maximoff" or Fietro or whatever you want to call him.

@@jacfalle27 Yeah, as Pietro and Wanda are mutants and therefore fall under the umbrella of X-Men characters owned by Fox, the only way they were able to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron was if they are never referred to as mutants or called by their X-Men names Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Of course, this would change once Disney bought out Fox in 2019. Disney now owns both the X-Men movies and the MCU, so there's really nothing stopping them from crossing over the two cinematic universe.

The Rogue-cut is one of my favorite parts. Without giving away any spoilers, it does help to make some sense of some things. The breaking into the Pentagon by "Quicksilver" is also one of my favorite parts, especially by using the song "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce, which means a lot to me. One thing about Raven, she looks smokin' hot in that early 1970's fashion at the airport.

In the comics, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Magneto's kids. That's what it was a reference to when Quicksilver says "my mom knew a guy who could control metal". The siblings have a weird overlap where they are both mutants, but also Avengers, so when it came to the movie rights, their characters appear in both movie franchises as different versions of themselves. Disney got to keep Wanda, and Fox (who had rights to the X-men at the time) got to keep Quicksilver. The actor who plays Quicksilver here, is the same actor who plays the "recast Pietro" in WandaVision. This is a little Easter Egg to this franchise, after Disney bought Fox.

2014 was such a great year for superhero movies... We got fantastic movies like Captain America The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy 1, and X-Men Days of Future Past all in ONE year, it's like a dream come true! This movie was so enjoyable and so emotional, the music supported the moments a lot, and I really liked that. So much that sometimes I just randomly look up some scenes from the movie like the climax scene where mystique has to decide whether to shoot Trask or not, such a powerful scene!! And that other scene with both the Charles-es interacting with each other, nobody in their wildest dreams would've considered thought that we would get to see old Charles guiding young Charles... There's just so much good stuff all packed beautifully in this one movie!! Also Fun Fact: Peter Dinklage, the actor who plays Trask, is the same actor who played Eitri the Dwarf in Infinity War, and in that movie he forged Thor's new weapon... Bro's creating and forging weapons in every franchise 😂 Also I highly suggest that you check out the Rogue Cut of this movie... It offers so much more story for both the past and the future, and after watching it, I think you would also prefer it over the theatrical version. Also I think it would be fine it isn't posted on KZbin, since we already have a reaction to the full movie here... Peace! ✌

@@PonchoBull I don’t know why anyone would agree with that. That retcon dovetailed immediately into the best and most well received run of scarlet witch stories told in the last 30 years and it is completely reliant on the fact that she is searching for information on who she really is after learning who she is not. And even if it were completely done to be petty to Fox Studios…bravo. Marvel Studios had the rights to use them because they have been Avengers in the comics since almost their creation. They just had to make them non-mutants. Doesn’t look like they plan on retconning her back in the comics any time soon. Marvel Studios has had the rights back for mutants for three years now, since around the same time that Hickman’s House of X comic run started, and they’ve doubled down on the fact that she is NOT a mutant. ‘The pretender’ is what mutants of Krakoa call her. Also, chilling new insight into her actions during House of M on Decimation as a non-mutant. Huge character driven story about Magneto’s conflicted feelings for the woman he raised as a daughter. Addie! I absolutely love this movie! The fusion of both casts and the juggling of so many moving parts was near virtuosic! I rank this film higher than X2 because it came closer to approximating its comic book inspiration despite the "Days of Future Past" source material being a greater level of difficulty to adapt than "God Loves, Man Kills". I always give the X films latitude with respect to comic accuracy because they continue laying track for a locomotive that already left the station. Despite some unavoidable relationship and plot changes, this adaptation really captures the spirit of the Claremont era. The powerful duality of Charles and Erik remains the core of these films and you get a double dose of it here: as young antagonists making a temporary alliance and as weary, regretful veterans reconciling while facing extinction. JLaw's Mystique remains the moral fulcrum, Evan Peters' Quicksilver delivers a bravura showpiece stunt and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine gets to play in the same sandbox with the kids! The dystopic future sequence is particularly horrific apocalyptically presenting the deaths of iconic characters. New talent is showcased in that thrilling trademark style of powers used in concert with Blink's use of portals being an amazing highlight! Just like the use of the Cuban Missile Crisis in "First Class", "Future Past" also cleverly blends history into the mix with Nixon, the JFK assassination and the Zapruder-like footage of the Parisian incident. The dangling plot thread of Mystique-Stryker goes nowhere leaving Wolverine's story between now and "Apocalypse" open to speculation and the utopian ending that reunites the original cast leaves their parallel 21st-century adventures open to speculation. However, there's no shortage of X foes like Mr. Sinister, the Brood, Sauron, Bastion, Selene, Exodus, Proteus, Reavers, etc that could have come into play and plenty of unresolved contention between Mags and Charley that could have easily flared up providing fodder for numerous exploits. The speculation is part of the fun! THE ROGUE CUT brings Anna Paquin's Rogue back into the fold for a phenomenal action sequence in which Magneto and Charles really cut loose barely getting away with their lives from the Sentinels! DO NOT watch the films in release order!!!!! THIS RECOMMENDED ORDER keeps the multiple timelines orderly. The '80s-set "Apocalypse" with the young cast is next!!!!! RECOMMENDED VIEWING ORDER: X-Men X2: X-Men United X3: The Last Stand X-Men Origins: Wolverine X-Men: First Class The Wolverine: Extended Cut X-Men: Days of Future Past: The Rogue Cut X-Men: Apocalypse X-Men: Dark Phoenix Deadpool New Mutants Logan Deadpool 2

You make a lot of good points here, but with regard to your suggested viewing order, I really don't feel like it matters where "Deadpool" is inserted into the lineup as long as it's after "Days of Future Past." "Deadpool 2" of course has to be last because it spoils "Logan," but doesn't "New Mutants" also take place after "Logan"? I don't want to spoil anything by giving specifics, but I thought an element of that movie built off of something in "Logan." I could be wrong, of course. Maybe they were just tied into each other without being chronologically set in stone. I don't remember off the top of my head.
@oxhine

@@BubblyRainbows SPOILERS! This is where it gets wobbly. I prefer to see "Future Past", "Apocalypse", "Phoenix" and "Deadpool" for a smooth chronological story since they're set in the '70s, '80s, '90s and '00s, respectively, along the same timeline. I place "Deadpool" on the same timeline as the young cast because of a certain cameo appearance in the sequel and the differing, comic-accurate Colossus. "New Mutants" has to come before "Logan" because the kids know about the X-Men as active. I place both on the original cast timeline. I just felt that the institution the New Mutants escape from is affiliated with the facility the kids in "Logan" are running from. The older teens in "New Mutants" had episodes in public and were sequestered at a different site than the kids who were being harvested and experimented on in "Logan" whose mutations occur in-house as it were. The connection between "New Mutants" and another movie is the Essex Corporation run by Nathaniel Essex aka Mr. Sinister. However, the link is made in the end-credit scene for "Apocalypse" in a different timeline. One infers that, like everything else, the Essex Corporation exists in BOTH timelines. Your statement about "Deadpool 2" is correct and I like it as a palate cleanser that ends the saga by cleaning up the timeline. Lol.
@BubblyRainbows
@BubblyRainbows Жыл бұрын
@@oxhine SPOILERS: Fair enough on the order as you put it. I only saw "Apocalypse" once and never saw Dark Phoenix at all, so I didn't know they fit in the decades in that order. I just felt that "Deadpool" could basically fit anywhere because it makes references to the X-Men cast, but the X-Men in it were pretty separate from the cast of the younger generation movies. And it does reference both McAvoy and Stewart, so it kind of hits both casts. But again, if you go by year, your viewing order does make sense. And I was uncertain on "New Mutants," because I remembered them being connected to the organization dealing with the children in "Logan," but I couldn't remember if it was just mentioned as in "they experiment on kids there" so it was just a tie in, or if it was "they shut down after kids escaped" to put it after "Logan." I'm disappointed in my memory on that one. I actually liked "New Mutants," so I thought I would remember it better. Thanks for giving me more details to refresh my memory and fill me in on stuff I didn't know. I hope this won't come across as me being catty, because I don't mean it that way, but you may want to edit your post to put a spoiler tag at the beginning. @@BubblyRainbows One can make perfectly valid arguments for "Deadpool" and "New Mutants" belonging to either timeline. This was my interpretation of the loosey-goosey Fox continuity. It also gets the less well-received films out of the way before ending strong with "Logan" and "Deadpool 2". There is no X film that isn't entertaining on some level including the clunkers. "Dark Phoenix" is worth a look because they tried to include some elements that were missing from Fox's first stab at the Phoenix Saga in "Last Stand". I love Anya Taylor-Joy in "New Mutants"! Lol.

The Rogue cut makes an amazing movie even better. The only thing that ticks me off about this movie is how a bunch of characters from the first movie are killed off-screen. You see their files in the flashback about Trask, and that's it. It also kind of sucks they sent Wolverine back in time instead of Kitty, like in the comics, but Wolverine/Hugh Jackman was the moneymaker of the series, so of course the movie centered around him.

The Rogue Cut is definitely better for a variety of reasons. It provides much more future drama to an adaptation that's otherwise very past-heavy, and Anna is always great in the role. It also explains why she's fairly prominently credited for what became a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo. haha I remember being confused by that when I saw it in the theater. It's not absolutely essential viewing, but it's a better movie, overall. The theatrical cut is still very good, though. I've seen almost every X-Men movie theatrically, and Days of Future Past was the first since X2 to really wow me on the big screen.

I'm sorry but the Rogue Cut is messed up tonally. Between the future, the past, intense scenes of drama and then scenes of strange melodrama like Beast and Mystique trying to resurrect old feelings of romance, the pace is seriously off. The two great scenes, one where Magneto raids the Pentagon and the other one where Magneto and Bobby raid the Mansion to save Rogue are spliced together and for no good reason. They effectively ruined two great scenes. Then I prefer Bobby sacrificing himself to save Kitty, Magneto, Wolverine and the Professor

16:14 I *love* this Quicksilver scene - I think most ppl would say it's the best scene from the entire film. However, despite this scene being a cinematic masterpiece, it does trigger a slight pet peeve of mine tbh. I don't like when films suggest that speedsters can slow down time, or constantly see things in slow motion - it makes them *ridiculously* overpowered. There's absolutely *no way* anyone that powerful should *ever* lose a fight, unless ofc they're facing another speedsters/ someone else who can control time. I definitely prefer when superspeed is portrayed as more of an active power, so they simply *choose* when to use it, rather than being unbeatable & stuck in a miserable existence of slow motion.
@LukeLovesRose

I also love the scene where we first meet him in his basement getaway / superhero cave. In that one scene, seeing all of that incredible set design, we get to know this Quicksilver better than most superheroes in the MCU. But I think you're mistaking a groundbreaking use of bullet time for a real look at Quicksilvers capabilities. I mean Aaron Johnsons Quicksilver was also able to disarm a guy and take every last bullet out of his gun, setting them neatly in a row... all in the blink of an eye. Other than the first Iron Man, the MCU never made their superpowers more convincing, believable or more versatile for the audience than X-Men Days of Future Past does with the mutants and their powers. We are able to fully immerse ourselves in Evan Peter's Quicksilver and all of his fun tricks. Besides, this is a very young Quicksilver. He may be faster than ever given his age.

The Uncanny X-men comic "Days of Future Past" is fantastic ... written by Chris Claremont. It has much of the same premise, but Wolverine is killed by the future Sentenials, and it is Kate/Kitty Pride who is sent back to her younger self. Fantastic story telling - it was such a shock at the time - and it created this possible dystopian future which hung over the X-men more or less ever since.

Couple things. First, the maximoffs. Originally in the comics, scarlet witch and quicksilver were magneto’s children. “Mom mom knew a guy who could do that” doesn’t raise questions about his mother, but who his father is. Wink wink. The twins were both mutants and avengers so Both The MCU and Fox had rights to the characters. Fox obviously had to scratch their Avengers histories and the MCU had to remove references to them being mutants and alter their powers origins. This movie and Age of Ultron came out around the same time and Marvel Comics pulled one over on Fox by retconning their mutant origins in the comics. Through a admittedly contrived storyline in the comics, it was revealed that a powerful being (the high evolutionary) stole them as infants and experimented on them, so their powers were thought to be in-born powers. Then it was revealed that Magneto is not their father, though they still have a connection from growing up thinking they were family. Once Disney bought Fox, the MCU started re-introducing comic accurate elements to Wanda (like the fact that she’s actually a witch and had powers before Hydra). Second, this movie is fun, but there is a serious problem in the writing. The story says that Mystique’s DNA is the key to allowing the future Sentinels to absorb, adapt to and replicate mutant powers (they don’t actually steal them from mutants). This is wrong. Mystique cannot replicate other mutant’s powers…that’s Rogue. They mixed up Rogue’s and Mystique’s powers; I assume on purpose because they spent a lot of money on Jennifer Lawrence’s contract when they signed her to a multi-picture deal and needed to bolster her character’s importance to the story.

Quicksilver's Mother... it's complicated by ownership. At the time this movie came out Marvel didn't own the rights to use the term 'mutant', they had to opt to call mutants 'gifted people'. In the comics Wanda and Petro Maximoff are children of Magneto. But because Magneto was owned by FOX, Marvel couldn't use him. Both companies chose to create a Petro character, FOX kept Quicksilver and Marvel kept Wanda after Petro dying in Age of Ultron. That's why the actor playing Wanda's brother in Wandavision was such a big deal. When Wandavision came out Marvel had already made several deals (mostly for the rights to Spiderman) and now Marvel can use Mutants and the X-Men characters as well as Fantastic Four. Hence the special appearances in Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness. I don't think we have seen Quicksilver's mother yet.

As someone who grew up with the original X-Men trilogy this felt like a proper closure to the X-Men as a team. All their conflicts bad choices and regrets let to a clusterfork that became a hellish future. And you know if Wolverine of all people is disgusted by it then its that bad. I normally do not like time travel it complicates established past things and just seems like a convenient remedy with no real stakes. Was good seeing both pairs of actors for both Xavier and Magneto to play them in different eras. That is and always will be the core of them Xavier wants peace coexistence with mutants and humans Magento wants their race to survive no matter what and the fact they spent years fighting over it just seems so trivial when the Sentinels take over as no side really wins. But with the timeline rests Logan returns to a future with all his friends alive and well even Jean and Scott. So a good closure movie for the team as a whole.

This is one of the few times when the villains are better than the comic book counterparts. In the comics, the Sentinels were goofy and incompetent cannon fodder. John Byrne wrote the Days Of Future Past two issue comic book storyline specifically because Clairmont thought sentinels were a useless trope at that point in the X-Men saga. Byrne's response was that there are no bad characters if the writing is done correctly. This story proved Byrne knew what he was talking about. 😅

The speedy guy was Quicksilver, Wanda Maximoff's brother. In this film he isn't a twin but an older half brother. What he said to Magneto about his mom once knowing a man who could control metal was a tongue in cheek wink at the fact that in the comics, Magneto is the father of the Maximoff twins. Disney didn't own the rights to their characters yet from Fox. Fox agreed to let Disney use their likeness but could not use the word "mutants" or relate them to Magneto. That's how Disney got them in the Age of Ultron Avengers movie. Evan Peters plays Peter/Pietro here and then as an easter egg Pietro on Wandavision. The fandom lost it on social media because lots believed he was the better version of Pietro and that it was a sign that a mutant and xmen story arc was going to start within the Wandavision show. As you know, he was used as a Boner joke, which us fans were not amused about. In fact, I was pissed. 🤬 They wasted Evan's skills for a bad boner joke for nothing. Both actors that played Pietro were also in the movie Kickass together. That's why in episode 6, the Halloween special, there was an emphasis on the word "Kickass" when Wanda and fake Pietro had a conversation about why he looked so different and stuff. This movie was supposed to slate clean the inconsistencies from all the other movies before it. It worked until the end when they showed Raven pretending to be Stryker. It made no sense. And then the movies after this, except Logan, messed it all up again. 🙄 Logan was probably the last one that actually was amazing, imo. Deadpool, to me, is a whole separate thing from the story arc of the Xmen series.... Yes, he was in the Wolverine Origin movie, but Ryan took it in is own direction.

Having Wolverine go back and interact with Charles using their shared history was way more interesting than having Kitty go back.
