I LOVED the movie, in fact, I loved it so much that first thing I did when i came back home is rewatch all of the x men movies from start, that's what a movie is supposed to do , make you interested again in the universe, and it did that perfectly.

I think to clarify, when someone "nitpicks", it's NOT because a film didn't work. Nitpicking is when someone really looks for things to be critical about because they want to find some and be contrary. Such an individual finds things to complain about that are extremely minor, so minor that the average person wouldn't give two seconds thought to those same things enough to even mention it.

I saw X Men- Days Of Future Past and despite my fears of a repeat of the ill fated X Men-The Last Stand, i was surprisingly impressed. He did it! Bryan Singer pulled it off and squeezed a big story into 2hrs 10mins without forgetting the plot and losing control..Brilliant loved it.

I think you're nitpicking with lack of female characters on here (especially cause the the Last stand was mostly about Jean and the cure. I won't say spoilers of what happens to a lot of them though) Mystique, Shadowcat/Kitty, Blink and Storm (and a couple others that I won't spoil) each had their own great moments in the film and while the men do outnumber the women in this one (which I'll admit is a bit odd for X-men), it was so minor of a detail cause everyone on screen was so well developed and/or was able to establish an emotional connection to the audience, that I didn't even notice it till now.

Thanks for the great review, Grace! Watched the film, loved every single second of it, from the beginning of the gruesome battle against the future sentinels (why their created advanced technology completely links every character on the show, both past & future) to the end with the message of HOPE has been restored. One of the best, if not the greatest X-MEN movie since X2, apart from the nostalgic elements of bringing the characters from the first trilogy. It's definitely a great mix of grit, action, effects & how the sequences are all linked so well together.I am superbly impressed with Singer, he has done a fantastic job, which he totally rescued the movie franchise & restoring faith in the hearts of the comic-book fans. Most importantly, him handling a huge cast, and the amount of screen time from each character, magnifies his brilliant direction & artistry! It's like every character was given a fair amount of screen time & relevance without feeling overstuffed, losing focus & wondering why certain characters were underused or why-are-they-even-there? (YES, BRETT RATNER, I AM TALKING TO YOU!) (SPOILER ALERT!) Seeing the altered future after defeating Boliviar Trask & aborting the Sentinels project, was completely satisfying although it's heart-wrenching to watch my favorite characters in the future brutally killed by the Sentinels! Actually, they are really scary (which is good thing) Watching the key characters coming back to life which Brett Ratner mercilessly killed off from the previous franchise was AWESOME to the max! (Yes, Kelsey Grammar, Famke Jaansen & James Marsden - SCREAMS!) Lastly, big scream for the few secs cameo of Rogue (Much gratitude to Singer for not cutting Anna Paquin from the movie completely!)

I LOVED this movie, as a movie fan AND an X-men fan. It also really touched me emotionally. The only problem I have with the movie was that it lacked a great score like X-men First Class (Also a movie that I loved!), and that it was in some moments poorly edited. (I blame John Ottman).

I remember going to the cinema to watch X-Men 2 just like you did. I still remember that feeling that I got, the whole scope of the movie and the way I was blown away by it all those years ago. I do hope this movie does write all the wrongs in the previous movies, especially Origins, the more I watch and the more I think about it, the more I hate it. However, I don't hate The Last Stand as much as everyone else, I though it was good but definitely a disappointment.

Great review, although, I do have to respectfully disagree with you with one point--I believe that nitpicking occurs when the movie/show/comic was so good that you have to find, or nitpick, at some of its very few flaws. Anyway, I just got back from seeing the movie and I loved it.

?: Grace, love your channel! You mentioned that one of the emotions you have after walking out after a well done film in a cinematic universe, is "I can't wait to see the next one." Would a studio ever consider releasing films concurrently in theaters from the same universe, in order to capitalize on this excitement or momentum? I think as the lines between quality tv and movies keep getting rewritten, this would be a very interesting move. Why might this move work or not work, and if a franchise were to try it, which would most likely succeed?

I love this franchise so much and I'm glad that it has recovered from the X3 backlash. But I'm with you Grace on the lack of female roles. Sometimes I think that they purposely chose Halle Berry for Storm because she would not overshadow the male characters with her meek interpretation of Storm. It's a huge weakness in this franchise that is becoming more noticeable as females begin taking on stronger roles little by little each year. And I don't see it changing as long as Singer is directing.

Beyond The Trailer As much as I would like the Age of Apocalypse featuring more of Rogue & Kitty (I adore Ellen Page btw), the movie is gonna be set in the 80s therefore it'd highly unlikely. Although it's funny watching Famke's digitally botoxed face on screen given the actress is nearly 50, I'm looking forward to see the younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops (now that they are alive!) & Storm. And of course, Scarlett Witch, Gambit (confirmed) & Archangel (4 horsemen hint hint!) I wish 2016 was here already! :P

One thing I also appreciated was that the film wasn't solely about Wolverine. There was space for many other characters to shine it really felt like an ensemble film and not Wolverine & The X-Men. Even though Wolverine is my 2nd favorite X-Men, I think he's always amazing when he is badass Wolverine and doesn't take on the role of leader like in X3

I saw this on the 22nd. It was great. I think people need to stop hating on Brett Ratner. It's not his fault that Bryan Singer chose to do Superman Returns (which he was more than entitled to), and James Marsden went with him. All Ratner and the writers did was salvage a bad situation.

Here's my personal ranking by film quality. It's a tight race within the top 3 but Marvel Studios still holds a strong lead in my opinion: 1. Marvel Studios: Avengers 2. 20th Century Fox: X-Men 3. Warner/Legendary: Justice League (Batman/Superman) 4. Sony: Spiderman One might argue Warner/Legendary holding #2 right now, but i bet not after this weekend. So long as Kevin Feige is up there overseeing everything i don't see Marvel coming down from that #1 Perch though. And despite all our anticipation i think there's nobody more excited about Avengers: Age of Ultron than Joss Whedon himself. I have full confidence my expectations won't be let down at least for Age of Ultron. The good news is with the bar set so extremely high we should see the best out of all these films as they battle it out over the next decade or two. Or forever.

Grace, your definition of nitpicking is incorrect. Nitpicking or hyper criticism usually means "...trivial, and unjustified fault finding to excess." So it is when a movie DOES work but a person goes out of their way to find something wrong with it. Rather than the description you gave at 3:40

As I thought about Magneto putting metal into the Sentinels it seemed it he only controlled their gun arms which the metal could probably pull the trigger. He did let the one Sentinel on the lose to kill Hank and Logan. I also think their was just an on switch that was easily pulled. These are my thoughts. He was unable To control the main program, but was able to have a puppet on a string with metal.

I must say as soon as I saw Quicksilver and young Magneto in the same scene I was slightly agitated, because I thought "great, another family connection ignored by this franchize". Having now watched this review I want to watch DoFP 2x as much as I did before, like Grace my two favorites are Batman and the X--Men and she ticked off all the boxes to get me excited to see this movie. I usually wait a week or so to allow the crowds to thin out but IDK if I can do that is time and since I saved money by not going to see Spiderman I may even go twice, it sounds so good. *Great review, Grace!!!* I will say though, Grace talks about the lack of female characters, which leads me to point out something I suspect is also missing, racial diversity. There are brown people in the beginning of the movie, but presumably we spend most of the film in the past where Angel Salvadore probably won't be returning and Darwin was "killed" like some "the black guy always dies" horror cliche. So will there be any brown people representing in that car ride or just a bunch of straight white dudes? That kind of thing IS really noticeable when you're dealing with Marvel's most diverse team whether we're talking gender, race, sexuality, or all of the above.

***** One thing that Singer really uses well and makes his movies in general successful is a good use of subtlety and allusion. It was a nice touch that would please fans of the comics. If they all out made it a spoken, vocal acknowledgement, then it would become a large storypoint and plot to develop. Less is best.

We do at the very end. I really, really hope that X1 and X2 were not written out of the timeline, as I really enjoyed the dynamic between them in the films. It was really touching. However I believe this logically must be the case. I guess the tragedy of Wolverine is now that all of the friends and relationships he had before are lost forever.

QUESTION!!!!!!! :) Hi Grace, I love beyond the trailer, and think about the ink. I'm a huge X-Men geek fanatic just like you, so I thought you were the perfect person to ask this question. I was wondering with the news that X-Men: Apocalypse will primarily take place in the 1980's, introducing a young Scott, Jean, and Ororo, where do you think it would it go in story? It got me thinking, with these current films they tend to take real events of the time, and implement it into the story, I'm just spitting this out, but I wanted to know what you thought about the idea of the Legacy Virus, being involved in some way, and how mutants are blamed for it as a metaphor for the A.I.D.S. crisis that occurred at that time. Apocalypse and maybe Mister Sinister have something to do with the virus. Anyway I ask questions a lot,and I know this is a popular subject, but I really hope you can answer my question thank you so much.

I don't know Grace. Sure the movie made right many of the wrongs from Last Stand, but it didn't explain it all. How did Charles survive getting pulverized? How come Magneto's powers returned? The Wolverine end-credits scene left me at the edge of my seat, wondering how they could possibly have completely undone what happened in Last Stand. And yet it was not touched on. Also! The timelines! If the "future-sentinel" timeline is the same as the one where X2, Last Stand and so on took place, then how come that Mystique killing Boliver Trask (which supposedly was what started the war) happened 50 years before the war began. I mean in the X2 and Last Stand there were no mentions of Sentinels and in fact with Hank McCoy as a politician, it seemed as if the mutant public-image was doing well! Yet somewhere after that, an event that happened in the 70s caused a mutant-extinction program? Maybe I just misunderstood the timelines, but I certainly think this movie deserved nitpicking. Even if the movie worked, which I do agree it did.

Not sure if Magneto or Prof. X's return needed to be explained...I mean it would be nice but the end of X-Men The Last Stand hinted at Magneto's powers returning and at least the consciousness of Prof. X returning. Maybe that will be explained more in Age of Apocolypse? I will watch this movie on Sunday so I am excited!

well at the end of X3 magneto was able to move the chess piece slightly implying that the cure wasn't permanent. The Charles bit is a bit messy however, there's an end credit scene where he put his mind in a person in a coma he mentioned earlier but he's still in a wheelchair so I'm not sure about that.

No, I was wondering the exact same thing. Some of it was so unclear, like how exactly Kitty can send people back in time and what happened regarding Logan at the end, and the incorporation with this new timeline for example, in the replaced timeline, did Logan join the X-men the same way he did in the original trilogy.

Some questions were left unanswered like: how did Wolverine get back his adamantium claws? Kitty now has psychic powers? Why not send Professor X back as he has a stronger mental brain power then Logan? Also how did the event effect the time line which causes Jean to remain alive?....the last question will hopefully be answered in the next movie.

The only thing Singer and FOX got right about the X-men is the 'metaphor' and a couple casting choices in Stewart and McKellan.

Grace you're telling that X-4 is mostly a sausage fest. Where are my X-babes? I to believe that is X-men is the better team than Avengers and Justice League. Simply because, they have always been a team of outcast and almost never getting any reignition. Looking forward to see the movie tomorrow.

I noticed one strange continuity error, where in just one cut from past Wolverine to future Wolverine, future Wolverine had his metal claws back. He had the bone claws just a scene or so before I swear, but then all of a sudden *BAM* adamantium claws. That really bugged me. Honestly, that's one of my only two problems with this movie. Well, three, but the third is just about what they retconned and to what degree they did it, but that's all about where Fox takes the franchise form here, so whatever.

Whys everyone saying that X-men days of future past will be the highest grossing film of the year? I'm really not trying to be a troll, but I'm curious because x men the last stand didn't even gross 500 million worldwide. So what, you just assume that it will beat all the other summer blockbusters?

grace I have a question. So since they're talking about a Mystique spin off, do you think they've dive into her sexual orientation and vast amount of unique love interests she has had in the comics? I know that xmen origins has made her MUCH younger than she is in the comics, but you said in your review that she's more like her comic counterpart here than in any of xmen movie. I'm asking out of curiosity because i really think mystique has had such a geninue portrayal of her sexual fluidity in the comics and i'd like to see that in a film. Most lgbt characters in films are used as props or as stereotypes and I don't think mystique is either of those. I also think x-men is about diversity, struggle, discrimination.. it'd be nice to have a positive portray of a lgbt character in this franchise. Anyway thank you for the review I'm very excited to see this movie. ALSO! (sorry edit) do you think younger storm could be played by lupita nyong'o??
