This was the first X-Men book I read since the late 1980's. I was really blown away by how good it was. Really imaginative storytelling and fantastic art as well. I completely agree with your grade

I should have listened to you earlier BJ! Ha 😂 This honestly may be my favorite X-Men event I’ve ever read. I am struggling a bit trying to narrow down which x-books to read now. I picked up X-men, but I’m not sure if I need to go Marauders or X-Force or Excalibur or what ha 😂

@@TheComicBookReport for the first story arc, I’d say they all tie in together really well. There’s a very major event that happens in X Force. Once that’s resolved, the titles start to diverge into their own subplots, until X of Swords brings them back together.

@@TheComicBookReport about 10 issues too long, but the ending made the trip worth it, as it establishes some very cool stuff. I fell behind during the event in singles, so I didn’t read it until the hardcover came out. By then, it felt like a chore. X of Swords directly sets up for Hellfire Gala, which sets up the post Hickman era that we’re in now. Right after I read X of Swords, they announced Hickman’s departure from X-Men, and my interest has waned. Overall, I feel like even though there are really interesting moments scattered throughout, current X-Men hasn’t reached the heights HoX Pox did. The story was really cohesive at first. Then all of a sudden, it feels like a bunch of meandering. This is hard to put into words. Which means, it’s probably time for a video. Lol

Good review This is a classic. High concept science fiction with fantasy elements firmly set in the Marvel Universe. Hickman tackles concepts like the singularity and interweaves them into X-Men lore. I loved the scenes 1000 years in the future. Lots of politics too. He's been reading Michio Kaku, Dune and Nick Bostrom.

this wasnt to bad to collect got all the single issues back in 2019. there were 6 for house of x and 6 for powers of x. powers of x focused on the far future. if any new readers are reading this. i would recommend 2 books for this era. first read house/powers of x and then x of swords. x of swords pretty much had all the side titles in it as well. if you want older modern xmen lore. start with grant morrisons 2001 "new xmen". youll get stuff like 16 million mutants killed on genosha. second mutations. and characters like fantomex. my short recommensed order for modern xmen goes in this order. grant morrison new xmen, then house of m, then messiah complex. then avengers vs xmen. hickmans house of x kind of picks up from there with (hope summers)

This is such a fantastic, radical, X-Men story. One of my favorites of all time. Masterclass in storytelling here from Hickman! He is hilarious with his insertion of graphs though...I love it!

@@TheComicBookReport Kind of just depends on who your favorites are! Marauders is one of my fav titles and I'm a huge Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde fan and that's where they spend most of their time. I will say, Hellions is definitely worth looking into, it is going to seem like a bunch of random characters at first but it's got to be one of the top three books of this era. It just ended too - only eighteen issues! Really phenomenal stuff and has this ongoing background thread of Sinister's chimera research. Excalibur is fun for Betsy Braddock fans - plus if you want to get into X of Swords this is pretty important. It's kind of the magic-based X-Men title. Way of X is fantastic and especially so if you're a big Nightcrawler fan - it deals with sort of the larger ramifications of morality and the soul in an era of revivification. Super good. Super short also like 4 issues, haha. New Mutants is also fantastic and deals with some interesting mutant issues and the inherent privilege of mutants who can pass as human versus those who cannot.

I’m re-reading HoX/PoX and am wondering… to what extent do the lives of Moira X align with the various main story lines through the history of the X stories? I haven’t read all the X-books… but I see Age of Apocalypse in life 9-Ultimatum in life 8… etc. Was this a really clever way to unify all these separate threads into a somewhat coherent multiverse?

That’s a fantastic question and observation. I did not pick up on Ultimatum. I cannot necessarily speculate on this but if I had to take a stab at it I do think obviously the implication is that Moira had weathered all of this disparate eras within X-men history with a greater degree of insight or purpose than was ever suggested previously. I do think it was a clever way of adding that sense of cohesion to the X-men’s timeline. House of X / Powers of X is just such a great read to reread

Art imitating life, and realpolitik... In my opinion, that's a symptom. Of a great narrative mind drowned in the time of that 'rules-based order', which is trying to enforce the US hegemony of an unipolar dominion, at the times where this narrative tapestry is burning... revealing there always was a multipolar, non-aligned world behind it, and an international law which isn't perfect, but will allow growth and creativity for more peoples and countries, than the militaro-financial boot on their throat. The New Frontier of this Era will be, is, the cooperation with the global south and Eurasia. Yet there's an atlantic empire which struggles to accept that new paradigme, and generate toxic narratives accordingly. I would like to see creators, above all brillant ones like Hickman, release anti-toxins in the imaginary, psychopedagogic industry... But it seems the world-uniting syndrom of a socio-cultural system, passes to even highly creative individuals. Yes, the narrative interweaving and the colored curves of those comics really do SEEM wonderful and magnificient... as much as the emperor's new clothes. Maybe something Hickman realized too, when he decided to leave the marvellous court... and take the boat, toward new creative lands. #xmentheend #shakespeare&claremont #schillerinstitute

@@pixel325 I love x-men but often struggle with the same thing ha. It’s such a big universe that often has a lot of simultaneous subplots always happening. That being said in recent history there is probably not a better place to jump onboard with x-men than this book 😁

Sir, I'm literally new to the X-Men comic's. Can I start my journey with this xmen book?

I think it’s a fantastic jumping on point, however it would be helpful to have some context with X-men. Even if you’re culturally aware of X-men maybe from the movies or tv animated shows you should be ok starting here, particularly if you want to start with a modern X-men title. If you don’t mind reading older books Claremont’s run on X-men is also a fantastic place to start.

@@ehsanulh9553 I think you’ll be fine. Hickman introduces some very heady concepts here but I do think it’s a great modern place to start X-men and it sets up the current era for all the X-Books 👏 Wonderful story
