"If you isolate yourself, you are done for. [] As you get old, you withdraw from everything. [...] I am determined that I will not, as long as I can, be reduced to have my horizons close on me like that. [...] You must have an interest in life. [...] The human being needs a challenge. [...] Keep yourself interested, have a challenge. If you're not interested in the world, and the world is not interested in you... The biggest punishment a man can receive is total isolation in a dungeon. [...] That's real torture. [...] If you want to see sunrise tomorrow, or sunset, you must have a reason, you must have stimuli, to keep going." LKW

I’m sure he’s right for a lot of people, but I retired 20 years ago and have been sitting on the porch since then, and life on my porch has been pretty nice. I don’t crave more contact with people, more activities, more travel, or more goals. I think it’s different strokes.

Well said. Let’s leave the heavy lifting, the gold medals, the Nobel Prizes, the ambitious self improvements, to the young and ambitious. It’s cool here in the shade, away from the battles and struggles, most of which are factitious.

Wisdom cannot be quantified by material wealth or public recognition alone. True wisdom involves making wise choices in all aspects of life, including personal relationships and family. Building a lasting legacy within one's own household is a sign of true wisdom, as it reflects an understanding of the importance of investing in personal relationships and creating a strong foundation for future generations. It is important to remember that material success and public admiration can be fleeting and temporary, whereas the bonds and connections we form with our family members can last a lifetime and beyond. A truly wise person understands the value of these relationships and prioritizes them above all else. Turning a blind eye to the reality of the importance of family and personal relationships is not only disingenuous, but it also shows a lack of true wisdom. Instead, we should strive to cultivate meaningful connections with those closest to us and invest in building a strong family legacy that will endure for generations to come. The fruit from his family will be proof of his truthfulness and wisdom. No good tree yields bad fruits. 😅

Man, it’s like he’s describing my current stage of life… It’s frightening indeed, even though I’ve retired for 1-year! Although he learned as he went along in his later years in life, yet he managed to summarised aging so so well! Ultimate respect for LKY ❤

When young, pick a few of the big questions in life in STEM, or problems that are way ahead of current developments, and ponder, investigate, design them throughout your life besides your career, and when retired, pursue them ardently, it can be really challenging and satisfying, by pushing the boundaries of thinking, knowledge and technology. Why? There are no limits in the mental realm, infinitely infinite.

The world speaks volume abt LKY, about his vast achievements in managing Spore and change Spore from third world to Ist class. No one can deny but envy on Spore. Man measured success from your worldly achievements and everyone know tt is superficial. The real success of a man when he knows who is the Creator and why he is being created and the purpose of his creation. And he is able to accomplish tt mission he is a successful person n this world and the life after death.

I never forget a book I read if I intended to bring on it! Had he & his son banned cigs completely, those who smoke find means by themselves, I would have understood their "love", "logic", "honesty"! A freedom of choice in which the father & son did for the good of Singaporeans. Not income for themselves through fines & penalties. Deceits are bad for health of Singaporeans who don't smoke too, altogether!

Fat is not the culprit. That's old science. Today high insulin from imbibing sugar and processed carbohydrates is the culprit of diseases. Eggs also are not the culprit but the best source of protein. Being sedentary is the killer. Having good social interaction is crucial to longevity. LKY is spot on. He missed out on the importance also of anaerobic exercise, to strengthen muscles, bones etc. LKY = a rare human.

This video is 2 years ago. Today is another Thursday December 14, 2023 Time watching: 5.19 pm. 3 fingers swiped into photo. So, if the boys want to listen, they will know where to look for it. Right, Hong Yi.😊 Or else, so many talks all over the world. Mr Lee Kuan Yew is already slurring already. I see, he lost his voice because of smoking and beer. ❤❤❤
