In case people are wondering about controller support etc. They do mention this in their notes "We DO plan on adding features that will make things easier if you do want to continue staying attached to your desk. Early tester feedback has made it clear that features such as mouse-pointer interaction as well as Headset Mounted Device (HMD) pointers are useful features to have."

LR is considering mouse support and using the laser pointer on the motion controller. be sure to drop them an email and let them know your thoughts. IMHO we need mouse support for VR flight

LR has said they plan to migrate to Vulkan in 2018. The sooner the better. But you'll still want to have a GTX 1070 or better for VR.

It's in the works, search up " xplane developer" on Google and a blog run by the developers with updated and explanations of the tech they're working on comes up. They stated there a few months ago that they had started implementing vulkan compatibility, it'll take a while though, it's hundreds s of thousands lines worth of code changes

Just purchased , received and teqsted the Oculus Rift headset. Under x-plane 11.11 with fly inside the graphics are low quality,, but under x-plane 11.20 vr beta it is very nice with a pretty good resolution. This VR gives a new dimension to flight simulation.

If you have a rift get the oculus tray tool some dev made this makes it easier to launch specific settings for different games, set super sampling to say 1.5, I think you can turn off AA if you do this I believe.

I have never played Xplane before, I got it for my Vive. I have a mediocre system and this thing runs great. The immersion is incredible, I flew from my home airport in Michigans Thumb up to Mackinaw island.

I had the Oculus Rift recently and returned it after a couple of weeks. I have a very powerful PC (Pascal Titan X etc) and X-Plane with FlyInside was a real disappointment. It ran smooth, in fact very smooth but I could not read the instruments and the scenery in the near distance was crap! Sooo disapointed. Are you saying this has changed for the better? If so I may have to re-evaluate.

Yea,..me too. There was something very unnatural in a visual sense when watching this video. Pretty awful. If this is what it's actually like when using VR then I don't think I could stand it.

You don't get that sensation as much when it's your head doing the movement (ie when YOU are in VR). It's annoying watching someone else's VR experience.

What was the FPS hit (if any) with ortho4xp? Also, comments on the developer blog sounded like the yoke/rudder pedals were disabled with VR. You are using the yoke...do rudder pedals work?

yokes/rudders work with VR. I'm using CH PRoducts. hit 45 fps with ortho at medium settings, still testing.

Did you say that antialiansing somehow magically upscale your fps to 90 for headset? Umm, it is used for fixing jagged edges, not frames. nothing is upscaling your fps.

sick000fight I didn’t say AA upscales frames. I meant you have to tweak ALL your graphics settings to get X Plane to 45 FPS. The pointer happened to be highlighting the AA slider at the time I was trying to relate that. It takes a combination of settings. ASW and Vive reprojection DOES upscale x plane to 90 FPS so it can be viewed without judder in the Headset. xPlane VR cannot produce 90 FPS.

XP VR is an upgrade visually from FlyInside. 1 step of reprojection is eliminated. even at medium settings XP VR looks better and flies smoother.

LR needs to implement mouse controller with zoom bound to the mouse wheel. zoom is 100% required for Rift/Vive VR flying.

i suggest purchasing Xplane direct from Laminar so you can run two copies.. one main and one beta. WIndows MR headset is supported as of 11.20 VR3

i can see the airspeed at all times in VR, just look down as you would in a real cockpit. what you see in the vid is where my head is point, the Rift view if you will. My eyes move and see whatever i need to in an instant, just like in real life.

guess thats a tough one. the one thing you wont get from a cockpit is sense of height and depth. only VR/3D can deliver that. its a trade off between that and seeing/using physical controls/switches. VR would likely be cheaper though depending on the extent of your cockpit plans.

Thanks for the reply, VR would definitely be cheaper and much easier.. I have the Next Level Flight Sim' Cockpit and was going to enclose it similar to ontheglidescope's setup but use a 4th monitor for the instrument panel rather than the cluster of expensive hardware. TBH I'd have to see if I can demo' the VR to see if I love it :) His basement cockpit I can see realism over immersion vs the VR whereas I was planning similar but less hardcore. I'd rather spend that extra money on getting current again...

Ken Oath well that is the problem I have spent thousands on my cockpit, I don't Holliday, and this is my enjoyment and hobby, WARNING,I have not gone back to my build since having vr so if you haven't already flown in vr please try it it might save you a lot of money and hard work, I also use a pay ware co pilot, who will change radio frequencies, lower gear etc hope this is of help cheers

Thanks heaps for your input Dom', everybody that's tried the VR isn't going back to 2D from what I've seen. I did already order in a PiMax 4K VR headset to try which was significantly cheaper than 2 of the new monitors that I would've got. Few weeks away from delivery, so long as I can interact with the instruments etc and still fly with the yoke n pedals OK I should be happy.

Ken Oath hi ken I still use a lot of my primary instruments on my sim cockpit.yoke, rudders,etc, but one of the best bits of kit I bought was my virtual co pilot, he is invaluable, tell him what to do he will carry out your instructions to the t,example I say set Nav one 110.70 he will repeat and carry out command also he is first class on check lists so yep moving away from my nicecockpit with all the bells n whistles was not to hard, and the main thing is when I sit in my chair I can if I wish set alt heading course etc just to keep my hand in cheers ken good luck with your new flight gear

Alexander The Greek I don’t and I get motion sick easy nowadays. I can’t read riding in a car for more than 30 seconds and I couldn’t last a minute in one of those rides where it shakes you around and you watch a screen but X-Plane in VR doesn’t bother me one bit

Uff. Too much load for small improvement in this software, i think. You can try my config and then decide wich like more. In my config, the resolution is 1344x1600 per eye. In your config, the resolution (1x in steam * 1.8 in oculus) = 2560x2200 per eye

Awesome! Do you know if we'll be able to integrate the leap motion controller to use our actual hands/fingers to manipulate knobs, dials etc like flyinside does with leap motion? How does this native support compare to the flyinside option? With the new update is it possible somehow to switch between the flyinside and native vr versions still? Will this only work with specific default aircraft or any and all aircraft models including third party payware models (which I have a several of)? Thank you for your feedback

LR has not said anything pertaining to leap motion. From what I've read people have had to uninstall Flyinside for 11.20 VR beta to work.. or install a 2nd XPlane instance with just 11.20. Its actually 2 4k screens that almost alternate at high rate (its a set of techniques called brainwarp). I run my Vive with a 1.5 super-sampling rate effectively rendering at over 4k 90 fps, so with their little trickery it should be fine. For me on a 1080ti, 1.5 super-sample leaves decent headroom in almost all games, its just my preference not to push any higher. From everything I've read so far, there are maybe some trade-offs to the 8k but its overall very compelling and they're still making it better. Let us know how you like it Namdus

loool. yes you are right it is 4k per eye but the 2 x 4k =8k and there is nothing wrong with that. I got a 65' 4k tv if I cover one eye and just look at half of the screen is my tv no longer 4k? but I think pimax made a big step in the right direction and they were rewarded for it almost 3000% over their goal. I just cant wait to have mine and I will make a video and post it

Thanks for the review much appreciated, quick question I tried out the beta last night reduced my settings to get 60 odd frames per second in non vr settings (no terrain shadows, reflections minimal) however I usually get 30+ FPS with those on in flyinside. With 4000 oversamplling..Anyway got into xplane VR no problem, VR menu was 90fps as expected then jumped into the Cessna and getting 15-18fps... stutters everywhere and unflyable, PD was at default. i have gtx 1070 and i76700 at 4.0 ssd etc. I have auto gen on max and noticed your settings are quite a lot lower... should I be reducing settings even further?

Hi Mate, thanks for the reply.. ok so lowered autogen to medium and FXAA. Then loaded up X-Plane... still major frame drops and render lag when moving my head or moving around the touch. I am getting 45FPS in the counter. Then I got distracted by some work I was doing and came back to it a few minutes later and the frame drops and render lag had reduced significantly yay!. So maybe X-Plane needs a while to build some sort of frame buffer?? so then I cranked PD to 1.5 and increased FXAA to the next level up and still getting the same 45FPS...so that was good, but it first loads massive stutters, So I thoughtI would give it a min or so to see if the lag and stuttering reduces and it does :)... Did Many experiments will ensue !! also did notice that the cockpit reflections in the default Cessna are a bit of a mess.. its reflecting images of land that im not even over. Relections are on lowest settings.

Hi, well I watched your vid thanks, and changed over from fly inside, I have just bought the very nice carenado b1900 d to go with my little fleet of craft, I wasn't sure what to expect, as I use vive, but must say, amazing quality, really like flying for real,ok down side, would have liked to have used my mouse, which I can't, and also, I can not use my leap motion, not that I used the latter frequently, and just a warning to others, it has disabled all of these, so, I hope they will sort these, mager issues out real soon thank you again, happy new year swimming to you and your followers

lower your texture and objects settings, turn relfections to min. Titan X GPU does not have great affect on XPlane currently because of CPU bottleneck due to OpenGL API. Migration to VulKan planned in 2018. I have a 1080ti and my settings are in the video.

X-Plane Aviation IMO yes it’s worth it. You might want to watch my VR flight sim guide video. keep in mind XP VR is a work in progress. There will be peaks and valleys along the way.

I prefer Rift. lighter, less cables, doesn't fog up, has a small area near the nose you can peek at your yoke and mouse, great support, big $$ behind it. plus for Vive is their cameras are easier to set up and better room scale.

Open your steam library, right click on Xplane, go to beta-versions and choose there - public_beta. It'll update, and then, you'll find vr option n graphics menu ingame! Merry Christmas, and sorry for my bad English ;)

I use Oculus (stable version, no beta test!) and I enabled "Enable VR hardware" on XPlane11, but my Oculus do not show XPlane: it show own dashboard!! But XPlane is showed on monitor!! Where is my error ? Thanks Bambino ;-)

So when you flew in the cessna did the inside feel smaller than a 1 to 1 ratio? Mine felt like I was stuffed in the cockpit and the yoke looked like it was 2 time smaller than in real life. the views however looked proportional. If i looked at the left or right wing from inside it looked like it should. but the yoke and dash all seemed out of proportion to me and smaller.

mikey. thanks for watching. I can't really give you an accurate answer because while I've seen the inside of a C172 I've never flown one and haven't see it enough to make a comparison.

Well just by looking inside my yoke looks like it was made for a kid. So if you were comparing it to that you should notice it looks small. Maybe it is just me.. LOL. But I am loving it in Xplane 11. I can use the Vive controller and click on switches and dials and it feels like i am actually clicking them.

thats great. I use a CH Products Yoke so I'm hoping LR will provide the ability to remove the yoke in VR.

I think, but I am not sure that there was a setting on the VR controller in game to hide the yoke. I am pretty sure I saw it. I will look when I get home and if I find it I will tell you where it's at.

you need to have the the box checked that allows you to download beta versions with the X Plane Installer. however, since ASW is broken with VR5 you may want to wait until VR6 is released which should be soon

What are you using as the "controller"? Do you need an Oculus rift controller as well as the headset?

Sunjet Simulations I don't think you NEED it but that is what he's using.

Yea,..I'm the same. I like the concept of VR but the feeling of 'Touch' and 'Feel' obviously isn't there with touch controllers. I feel as if I wouldn't have any kind of interaction with the aircraft.

sounds like the teleport function. if you can't turn it off report a bug. google "x plane bug"

My GTX 970 is doing fine so far. They said on the release that the VR is very CPU intensive! I might be upgrading my 970 at some point this year. Hope this helps!

the "jumpyness" you see in the video is because my head is moving around. so from the YT viewers perspective it will seem very jumpy. i can assure you that when in VR it is not at all.
