My grandfather was an B727 pilot since 1970 to 1989, he told me they werent allow to use autopilot while SID or STAR, but they were allow to use it while cruse, also he told me the FMC doesnt exist in those times, they used for shorts flights radio aids like NBD, RMI and VOR. In long flights they used a system called INS.

On these kind of engines(I didn't fly the 727 but I flew the DC8 with JT3D)we always set power with the EPR. I noticed that you didn't take off with the right EPR as set by the bugs on your EPR indicators because you were focused on the N1. For climb , the EPR range is roughly between 1.80 to 2.1. N1 is used just to "confirm"power is correct and you don't iced your engine's intakes which will give you a wrong EPR and of course power setting! For descending on these old airliners with these kind of A/P we used vertical speed(which roughly should be 5 times your ground speed) and engines at full idle, this is fairly different of modern jets!Thanks for sharing , cheers!

I bought this plane a few weeks ago. Your videos helped a lot, thanks, but I silll have problems controlling the descent rate on approach. IAS HOLD takes precious time to respond and vertical speed dial ( Cimb/Descend ) responds too fast and it is difficult to use... What I think would work better would be the Pitch Command bottom but I didn’t figure out how it works... In your videos you do not use it. Does it work at all?

You do a great job of conveying flight sim details. In this particular video (I have the 727 Freighter) I noticed a switch in my plane just above the altitude setting control that indicates "GPS" and can toggle to "NAV". It is not on your panel. Functionality is escaping me, especially when transitioning on takeoff to cruise and then to approach with autopilot functions.

It can have auto speed during climbing but not auto speed at cruising altitude. I don't get it. Can somebody please explain.

Nevermind. I guess it can vary the speed to maintain pitch. Or it can vary pitch to maintain speed. Just not both at the same time.

Everything turns on but i got no electrical to FMC. The HSI VOR distance indicator does not show up, and my autopilot doesn't work. I'm following every step, what i'm doing wrong?
@Q8Pilot Жыл бұрын
Are you in X-Plane 11? If so do you Bravo flight yoke? Do you have your radios mapped to a control?
@RogerNorse Жыл бұрын
@@Q8Pilot Yep i'm in XPlane 11. I don't think i have them mapped. The problem is HSI VOR distance indicator doesn't remove that white cover, the autopilot doesn't work and FMS doesn't turn on when starting the plane from "cold and dark" status. I don't have these issues when starting from "already running engines" I tried to click on one of the two switches behind the Captain seat and saw that the closest one is the cause behind the FMS and HSI VOR distance indicator not working, so i presume that the autopilot wouldn't work either as if that switch turns off all electricals (is that true? is that the switch that controls the electricals, instruments and autopilot?) The problem is that even if click on it when starting from cold and dark, nothing happens nor changes, so apparently i found the cause behind but still don't have a solution and have no idea what to do. Watched several cold and dark startup videos on YT but no one seems to have this issue... I don't have these issues with any of my other planes, default ones nor Zibo, only 727.

Hey man, nice video! I'm a real world Flight Engineer on a B707 (E-3 AWACS). I noticed you did a few things that were procedurally incorrect. If you're interested, PM me if you want to learn more. I'd be more than happy to help. I'm by no means trying to be condescending or rude. I fly this thing all the time on X Plane 11 and, I gotta say, using my real world knowledge and experience makes this a whole lot more fun to play. The B707 and B727 are strikingly similar in a ton of ways. If not, no hurt feelings lol. Keep up the good work!

I welcome every opportunity to learn something new. Please do share your tips and thanks in advance.

@@Q8Pilot 1. ***COLD AND DARK*** When you turn on the battery, turn the DC meter switch to BAT to check the Voltage. Should be at least 22V on B727 I believe, but don't quote me, I'd need to double check. Also, before turning on the APU, have the essential power on STBY. The Volt and Freq Meter should be set to APU. Turn off the ENG 2/ APU Bleed Air switches prior to turning on the APU (no idea why it's set to on by default). For more realism, do an APU Fire Warning Test prior to turn on (I know, I know, it's a sim, so it doesn't really matter haha). When the APU EGT stabilizes after start, around 340C, check the volt/freq meter. Volts should read 115+/- 4, Freq should be 400+/- 10. Once that's good. Turn on APU Power (this connects APU Power to the bus tie). Set Essential Power to APU. Lastly, check the three T/Rs on the DC meter. They should all read at least 22V. Turn on navigation lights. 2. ***PUMP YOUR BRAKES*** After APU start, release the parking brake and pump the brakes. In a real plane, this would increase the HYD Fluid QTY (on the gauge) due to the fluid leaving the brake system. Brake pressure gauge should read 750-1000 PSI. Check HYD QTY gauge. Should read full. There is a tolerance on the B707, but I haven't found anything for the 727. 3. ***PRESSURIZATION*** For pressurization, the cabin altitude should never exceed 8.6 PSI Cabin Diff Press. Typically, a cabin altitude of 5,000 ft is safe up to FL 320.. ish. There is also a little table on the FE panel for reference, although I don't think it's very accurate. Don't forget to also input your landing elevation altitude. This will let the system know what altitude to bring the cabin down to when landing. There is also no need to change from GRD to FLT in flight. The only time you would ever really use FLT is if you do a water landing to prevent water seeping in through the outflow valve. 4. ***HYDRO*** You should turn on your electric driven hydro pumps before engine start. Doing this should activate your System B Flt Controls and increase your brake pressure back to about 3000 PSI. Afterwards turn on GRD Interconnect. This will activate your System A Flt Controls as well as allow you to operate systems controlled by your engine driven hydraulic pumps (ex:flaps). Essentially, it is kind of like an operational check. The interconnect switch is also used during an engine failure if a particular system is not receiving hydraulic pressure. When you do this, it is allowing your Electric Driven pumps to supply hydraulic pressure to engine driven pump systems. 5. ***AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM*** Turn on your APU/ Eng 2 Bleed Air Switches (I honestly hate that design and I think it's stupid; they should be two separate switches). Check that your Bleed Air Duct pressure increases to at least 30 PSI. Turn each pack switch ON and OFF independently. This APU cannot handle the load of both pack systems. When leaving one pack on, check the APU EGT. You should see an increase, but make sure it does not enter the caution range. Check all your temperatures, including the pack (or Air Cycle Machine) temperatures and cabin air temps (supply air temp, aft cabin, fwd cabin, etc.). A comfortable temp is about 20C. 6. ***STARTING ENGINES*** When starting engines and going to GRD start, the very first thing you want to look at is your Bleed Air Duct Pressure gauge. There should be an IMMEDIATE drop in pressure, as well as the corresponding VALVE OPEN light. If it does not happen, it means that the APU (or air cart if used) is not supplying the engine with bleed air required for N2 RPM. At 17% N2, introduce fuel to the engine by bringing up the corresponding engine fuel selector. You should see a subsequent rise in EGT and Fuel Flow. At 37% N2 the GRD Start Switch should automatically go back to OFF (although the Engineer does that in a real plane). Again, look at the Bleed Air Duct pressure gauge. There should be an immediate rise in duct pressure. Also check that your corresponding IDG low pressure light is extinguished as well as the corresponding hydraulic pump (when starting Engines 1&2). Lastly, check that your oil pressure is rising to at least 35 PSI and that your low oil pressure light is extinguished. If the EGT and N1 stabilizes, the engine start is good. 7. ***PERFORMANCE*** The TOLD card given is absolute garbage. It doesn't factor many things. Your max T/O weight will vary depending on: temperature, altimeter setting, winds, runway condition reading, runway surface condition, field elevation, end of runway elevation, runway slope, required climb gradient, screen height and obstacles. It only accounts for temperature and pressure altitude I think, which is crap. There is also an acceleration height to consider to meet required climb gradient. If you're interested in learning more about this topic, let me know. This isn't even everything and I know this is a fire hose of information, but knowing this stuff makes the game a lot more fun (at least in my opinion). If you have more questions, feel free to ask!
@sniperdolphin13974 жыл бұрын
Edit: for performance: there’s also runway length to consider. In general, the card is missing a lot of addition information such as accel height, go around EPR/N1, landing and ground roll distance to name a few.
