7 months after my TKR and lots of complaining and xrays and scans, nothing showed. The doctor reluctantly offered exploratory surgery. I could put his hand on the area where the sharp pain was and he could feel something moving. Turned out it was excess glue that had pushed out of the femoral component. He said it just was in a blind area of the artificial joint. The frustrating part is…no one from the therapist to the surgeon listened. I woke up after arthroscopic surgery knowing it was removed even before i saw the surgeon. Now I need the other knee replaced and too afraid to use the same surgeon and to even go through with this again.

I am 3 years & 7 months out & still having pain from a revision. It got infected dr went back into clean it out. All the x-rays show the implant is normal. This also happen with the 1st total knee implant. The new dr said it was loose. The revision has the same pain that I had with the 1st implant. Pain, swelling, inflammation pain. Loosening. The revision hurts more then th other knee that needs a TKA Children Ibuprofen helps but I am not suppose to have any Nsaids. Why does my knee revision hurt wirst??

Hi! I'm almost 4 years and, 3 months from my total knee replacement and, it's been a painful nightmare! You decribed my whole nightmare to a T including great x rays, surgeon told me his replacement was great and, in the way he put it I got the message , move on and don't come back, I have no clue as to why you have a painful knee and, I couldn't' care any less! All of this hell from a fall, a twist when I fell and, tore my meniscus! I can't get help other than injections which work for around 2 months, thank god for pain management! My bakers cyst went after 2 nd series of injections, that cyst was horrible!

Sorry to hear this but thanks for sharing your story. Have you been back to PT recently? Often they have help other issues you may be having.

TheSadie58 I’m 1.5 years post op and a disaster here too, but also x-Ray fine. Also have very painful thigh muscle “catches.” Don’t have to use but really should always use a Walker to have better gait. Knee didn’t even hurt, done due to grade 4 and thinking it’d help heal from femur break. Lesson learned never replace a knee that doesn’t hurt to try and solve another problem. Good luck going forward.

I had TKR 11 months ago. I have good range of motion but I can’t walk any distance. I have pain & swelling. If I don’t walk, I am ok but that was the reason I had surgery to be active & enjoy outdoor activities. I am so depressed. Anti inflammatory meds. Work but I can’t just live on them, pain comes back.

Hi Doc. Great video! I'm 2 years on one and 11 months on the other. I know they don't heal the same but the 11 month one feels weird to me. I'm praying when I go next month for my x-rays on both that the 11month one isn't loose🙏🏽

I know most people do have a successful TKR surgeries, but that 20% of us that don’t, it is a pretty raw deal. Doctors tell you they can do no more to help you. Your pain and swelling never goes away. Your whole life has changed in a blink if an eye. I read all of you and can relate to the “where do I go now?”. You are just “dismissed” and that’s the end of it. Deal with it. We pray with all our might not to need another surgery. Please no. No! Stakes are pretty high, specially if you are not truly at the end of the rope. Tell anyone you can about what we didn’t know before surgery. What we didn’t research in-depth before we went ahead with these. Hug to all on xmas 2025. Best wishes above all!

A family member kept having bad pain up to year after TKR, blood work kept saying normal, they finally put him in the hospital and did a biopsy of the knee and it came back with infection. I am currently 9 months pist op and still have severe pain and swelling. I need to find the answer.

I had my TKR rt knee due to bad OA. First TKR, 2/23. I fell at home (I won't say how 😅) and 3/29/23, had my knee revision. I'm fine save a little discomfort in humid weather. Maybe a touch of bursitis ? I'm very active now too 😊

After Cortisone shot wears off in 3 to 4 months the same pain is back . What is next? Cannot keep getting Cortisone shot. I had total knee surgery and pain is constant in back of knee. Nightmare and no Dr helps.

Hey Doc - great video. So having knee pain on top, sides and some behind knee. Saw a different Ortho and he recommended at this time PT for strengthening quads and hamstrings. Can you tell me what the specific disorders are that the Ortho talked about - Ansular something ? SP?

I am having TKR in June, but about 10 years ago I had TKR on my left knee and have never felt it was “right”. My new surgeon had me place my right foot flat on the ground while seated and gently pulled on my knee. He says that TKR is loose. I had tried all this time to figure a way to explain how that knee felt. Numb painful sometimes, but just not right. Now that he said it’s loose when I walk and it goes sort of wobbly, which is a very strange feeling. All this being said, exactly how is this fixed. Does it call for a new TKR? Please say no! Anything different than that?

I am 14 months after, a full knee replacement, I have very painful popping on the sides of my knee. It is also audible LOUD , like tendons popping over a edge. People around me can see my face when they hear it. And it is real bad if I do not move my leg for about 5 minutes. I have no swelling and no infections. Is this tendonitis?
