A great maiden flight of the X UAV Mini Talon there you silver fox and silver tongue devil you! What a great build with modifications to the XUAV Mini Talon, flew terrific and look awesome with that great U.S. Navy paint scheme, well done Bob! She flew so stable and with authority, impressive indeed! There was another instamorph at the 2:40... whew that was nice "plastic surgery" gone right as well! A great maiden flight by Paul and of cousre the sweet camerawork and final video by you Commander Bob! A BIG thumbs up from me and look forward to many more FPV flights from this Beauty! P.S. Let Paul go "girls gone wild" crazy on the next flight there fun police lol! Cheers Commander Bob!

Thanks Freddy. That wasn't me in the video. That was my identical twin brother who is much older than I am and looks nothing like me at all. I thought you might appreciate the InstaMorph, it is fun "kneading it into shape". You and Pat are the only ones who seem to have been paying attention lol. As for Paul and the "Fun Police", I told him he's free to go crazy as soon as I put a battery strap in it. For pure FPV, the plane isn't going to see much in the way of aerobatics and so it's not really necessary to strap it in. Without a battery strap, it would be pretty easy to eject the battery and that never ends well. Thanks a big heap for watching Freddy. Happy flying to you! Cheers, Bob

Great video series on the Mini Talon thanks a lot! FWMFPV recommended I check you out as I've just ordered one of these myself. I've gone big (SkyHunter, Drak) and I've gone small (VAS Banshee and Legit wing) and now I'm ready for just the right size Talon! My other attempt in this size range was the Mini Skyhunter, and that was not a great experience. I'm hoping that the Mini Talon will be much better as I'm still looking for a mid size FPV plane I can travel with. I've got a spare Ritewing Z3 28xx motor lying around, as well as an NTM 3536 1250. Which do you think would be better for this build? Thanks again!
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Joel over at FWMFPV is being much too kind. He is far more knowledgeable than I am. In any event, I used a SunySky 2216 1250 kv motor with an 8x6 prop and all I can tell you is that I don't want to mess with success. It flies right out of your hand at 80% throttle and cruises (fast) at just under half throttle. I haven't flown it enough yet to determine how efficient it is but early indications make me think that I don't want to change a thing! I wanted a plane that I could just chuck in the car and fly and this one fits the bill as well as any I know. If you laminate it, it's tough as hell too! Good luck with yours and happy flying to you!

Great hatch mod, I have some latches coming from HK. Your Mini Talon goes is so fast I am going to have 1G3 video and 433 LRS or it will get away from me! Hope the RTH works on the HKPilot too.
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. The Mini Talon likes to fly much faster than some of the other popular FPV planes. Although this means you have to fly it all the time, it also means that you can cover a lot of ground quickly. My hatch mod works great and I highly recommend it compared with the other methods of securing the hatch. I look forward to following your build! Happy flying! Cheers, Bob

nice build. i ordered a l9r for my mini talon bit how did you mount the antennas like that?
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! To mount the antennas for the L9R, I cut and glued a small piece of light plywood into the foam so that it fit flush with the surface. This piece of plywood was covered by laminate when I laminated the plane. I then used a 3D printed mount I purchased from Aloft Hobbies. You can find it here: alofthobbies.com/pcb-antenna-mount.html I hope that helps. Have fun with your Mini Talon! Happy flying. Cheers, Bob

Hi buddy, Great flight really enjoyed watching this. Can i ask, what type of paint did you use to do the fins etc? Also do you know what amps it was pulling at 50% throttle? Cheers
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment. The paint I used was Faskcolor by Parma. It's a water based paint I used on Lexan car bodies and it has worked well on all types of foam. www.parmapse.com/fas1.html As for the amp draw, unfortunately I haven't measured it yet so I can't help. I will measure the amp draw in static mode and include it in the next video I do on this plane. As soon as I install the Vector Flight Controller, I will have real time telemetry and can post some DVR footage. Thanks for watching and happy flying to you. Cheers, Bob
@Afiso8 жыл бұрын
I wonder how fast it fly's at 50% throttle. 40km/h?
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing closer to 60km/h. Others with the same set up claim between 60 and 70 km/h at half throttle. I won't know for sure until I install a flight controller.
@Afiso8 жыл бұрын
that;s some good speed at half throttle. nice. Get the Eagle tree vector. Verry good and easy flight controller

Hi , just wanted to ask about your laminating , what film is it and did you do the wings seperate to the fus , good mods I've done the hatch one too , I have the morph stuff so will do a rear skid good idea , videoing was good also .
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
Hi, I used 1.5 mil laminating film from Amazon. It comes on 2 rolls and for 48 bucks you get enough to last three lifetimes. I like the 1.5 mil because it's so easy to work with and you can apply as little or as much as you want by applying extra layers as required. I usually end up with one layer on non-critical areas and three layers where the plane will be subject to abuse and/or to make it more rigid. I first laminated the pieces individually (wings, tail feathers and fuse) and then laminated over all the joints to make it into "one piece". The Mini Talon is so small it never needs to come apart for transport. Thanks for the kind comments on the video and happy flying to you!
@weavostigercat20008 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reply , I have 1.5 and some 3mils , think I'll do the same , yes it will go in as is for transport to the field . You made a great job doing it did you use a tacking iron ? Was thinking about all the curves ?
@SubToTripleThreatRC8 жыл бұрын
I used this sealing iron www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?I=LXHZ17&P=8 The curves are easy to handle with the 1.5mil. I would use your 3mil for the flat surfaces and over the leading edge of the wings. Sometimes I will criss/cross a curved area with a couple of layers (if required) to get complete coverage. Use your 1.5 over the foam hinges to reinforce them and to make sure they never go flying when the foam hinge gives out lol.

Nice , similar to mine , thanks .
