This belongs in a museum for modern art. This is the best, coolest C64 demo ever made. The soundtrack, the effects, the design. In. credible.

The hardware may be limited but the creativity and imagination of the people that learned to love and live this little machine is limitless, each and every demo has new twists to age-old routines and just when you thought you've seen 'em all, change a bit here, shift another one there and voilá a new eye candy is born.

The sound at the end wast amazing... Can`t believe that is a C64, it sound better than many samples I have heard on the Amiga.

Holy crap! In the thumbnail for this video, I thought that SURELY the Cheshire Cat was superimposed over the C64's output. I swear it looks 16-bit! Amazing job on the bitmapping, guys. Really impressive. I always wished that game companies would hire demo makers-then we would've had some mindblowing games...

But the C64 can't draw actual bitmaps... The closest thing it has is fully customizable charsets. 2 colors per character on high-res mode, 4 colors per character on low-res mode
@Clystron4267 жыл бұрын
@MarioKart7z -- I don't think that's correct. I think it has a bitmap of the whole screen (even several screens can fit into memory and you can switch between them). Characters with colors are placed on the screen to color the bitmap in the background, if I remember correctly.

I know a little to know that it's a bit of a trick. I know sprites can go in the top and bottom borders, but I didn't know what is possible with side borders. This is why I like watching recordings of demo events, you can get a feel for how technically impressive a trick might be from their reaction. :)

Sjees.. I remember writing a digi playback routine what consumed the complete raster time, no room for effects on the screen whatsoever.. not counting writing the digi output to screen & border col as effect ;)

Absolutely jaw dropping! Anyone who has ever programmed a 64 in the 1980'ies knows what I mean. Imagine you had seen this demonstration in your local computer shop in 1982: "Yeah, we got this new thing in from America. Pretty cool with 64K memory and all. Hey, it even has a tape recorder! How about it, Slick?"

does this work on NTSC C64s?
@sandmanxo9 жыл бұрын
Gio M While I've never tried it on mine, I can just about guarantee it won't work on a non PAL C64. Modern C64 demos are timed to PAL clockings and usually you'll only get music at best here in NTSC land.

While I still enjoy this demo production (trust me, it's one of the best of the series by far), I came to a realisation that Magnar here tried way too hard to be the next EoD in the musical department. Why do I bring that demo up? Well, firstly, both Dane/BD and Magnar released snippits of the soundtrack in the music compos before their groups' big projects. Secondly, Magnar tried to make a lead melody as catchy as it can be, just like how Dane made it. *Dane VS Magnar* *|* *HCL VS Bob* *|* *3-ON-3 DEATH BATTLE!* *Jailbird VS Mirage* *|*

Why do people write demos on the modern PC and use the the colours and resolution of the c64 and PRETEND there on the C64? If you look at some of the pixels on the cat there smaller than the c64 pixels should be.
