Actual Description
I don't actually consider the testing a fail, as I figured out what is wrong. I consider the day a fail because of everything that went wrong... most of it not even related to the X2

That is bloody bad news, I hope your luck has changed for the better, at least you have found the problem, better finding it now with minimal damage to the engine, good luck with fixing it, cheers mate

Thanks Adrian. You hit the nail on the head... better to find it now than to damage something else, and it's still early in the season here, almost too cold still.

Geez, when you said "no booties", I knew it was going to be bad, but dang! Sometimes jetskis break, make you lock your keys in your car, and make your friends hurt themselves on their bikes. You kept it together, but some ski days are like that. I hate jetskis!

LOL... It's a love hate thing eh? If life was easy, I probably wouldn't have been forged to my current level of perfection... am I right ? For real though. Ya think you're having a bad day and then hear from your friend that she impaled herself on her bike... puts things into perspective a little.

I can understand why you are nervous about the bottom of the ski going on to the trailer. The thing looks like a SeaRat haha I love it! Oh no you forgot your boots that's going to be so cold cold cold, sorry that sucks. Yep the cold feet are already bad. All I can say is when you go out for the test ride I hope you stay close to shore. holy crap intake grate is broken that sucks. Well the ski seems like it is going to be sweet. Sorry for your string of bad luck there. Well at least your weight savings are good. Oh crap bad compression. Dang that sucks about the cylinders. I hope you get all your parts soon. good luck.

I kinda wish I would have ridden it while it was running, but at the time there was steam coming out of the pisser, and I wasn't really sure why... turns out it just needed a few seconds more of running. If it would have fell, I would have been in trouble tho, because there's no way it was starting in the water. It sucks about the compression... What happened was that I knew back in December it was low on the front and rear, just by the way it sounded turning over, but I had lent my compression gauge. I ordered a new one but accidentally shipped it to Labrador. It's embarrassing and frustrating , because that is one of the first things to check. I was hoping that with a little running, it would seat in and be okay... but when I saw the actual number 😂 Nope !! The little that I did experience of the 1100, (not working well) I can say it is going to be a monster ! This gives me some idea of what the SeaRat must be like. Excited to get it back together.

LOL.... yeah man. It's pretty rough. The water level was really low and there was an insane amount of mud... that's how the rocks got in my shoes, but I know what you mean... most of the time it's a mystery. It's good to know some people know what it's like, haha.

Dang, this is tough news! Hoping you can get the new set of cylinders in and get them bored and honed quickly. Part of me says you find a way of getting clearance so that you can bore the new cylinders yourself on the vertical mill. It worked so well with the 650 engine!
@JoelArseneaultYouTube
@JoelArseneaultYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
This is the jetski way. Yeah.... the 650 worked well. I bored it on the mill, but also (I forget for sure) but I think I bored it within 10 or 20 thou and then honed the rest of the way. I should have done that with these as well. Live and learn. Soon enough this old girl will be roaring to life again, and when it does, it's going to be a monster !

the shop that machined my 1100 1mm over told me you can use sxr800 pistons if i ever wanted to bore bigger next time, im not sure if your concerned the sleeve will be too thin by that stage, but aftermarket .25 over sxr pistons at 82.25 should be pretty cheap that said getting a new barrel to use your current wiseco's is just as good as an idea
@JoelArseneaultYouTube
@JoelArseneaultYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have looked into that... you can use 750 pistons up to 84mm but after 82 they recommend resleeving as the sleeves get thin. I have considered risking it and boring to 83 or 82.5, but if it fails catastrophically, it could take the whole engine out... and that would be a bad day, haha. The 1100 that I bought for parts has one cracked liner at the bottom ... I could probably cut a small piece out and run it with STD pistons till I get the new cylinders, but if the new ones need first oversize... then I have to get another set of pistons, haha... Or bore to 82mm and use the ones I have. 🤔

Wow you played it cool for all the bad crap happening! I have to say that where you live is not the easiest place to be a jet ski guy. At work we looked at kajiji and craiglist for your area and man there is not a lot of good jet ski stuff to buy. Then you buy something in the US and it takes forever and cost way more. Yeah with the impeller you got it should still be really fast. The 1100 revs pretty high so I bet it will do at least 50 and get there quick. Man on my 750 x2 I bored a blown up jug +.25 with the same hone. I remember having a tricky time with it so I pulled the dial off the hone and spun it with out it so the centrical force pushed the stones out. I had to hold the hone out the side of the jug a bit to get it kind of even on both sides. With some ok calipers it seemed like they were round within .010". Pretty crappy but whatever. I threw some used cast pistons in that were laying around and it worked good. In contrast to the dasa..... New everything and I cared 1000% more and it cost thousands of dollars and it blows up idling on the hose. I feel for you Joel! Really sorry for how it's going. Hope Stephany is ok. Sounds like a painful injury.

Thanks for the comment Jacob ! I actually swore once when I locked my keys in my truck, lol... If I start feeling sorry for myself and getting angry about everything, it's really easy to go completely off the rails in a hurry... trying not to take that route, haha. I think it's funny that you were looking in my area on kijiji, haha. That's cool. There really isn't a lot of stuff here... but it's also early in the year, so even less. It'll be interesting to see what it works like with this impeller. I would kinda have expected it to just instantly hit the limiter and not do a whole lot, but also, I guess it has to work better than the 650. I can't wait to try it and see how close you are with the "50" That's a good idea... taking the dial out and just spinning it 👍Clever. It's funny / embarrassing how I was so careful about everything when building the engine EXCEPT that I totally messed up two of the jugs. I know you've been in my shoes more than once, haha... so yeah, thanks. It will all get sorted out and I'm more excited now to get it running than ever. Steph will be in the hospital in urgent care for a week at least. She's tough as nails, but this is a rough one.

Damn, it seemed quite healthy for being that far down in compression on 2/3 cylinders! Can't even imagine what it must run like running correctly! Well, that explains a good portion about al those hard start ups and weird stuff you had going on trying to run this motor initially... Was this the first time you checked compression?! Anyway, that sucks you had to get another cylinder (or 3 new sleeves) and plus a set of pistons. Hopefully you can get away with just a quick hone on the stock bores and get it up and running sooner... It sucks.... Isn't it crazy how fast summer sneaks up, then next thing you know it's already half over at the blink of an eye... Don't forget you need a new scoop grate (well I guess you could fix yours), But an excuse to go get yourself a nice Jet Dynamics, which I think might help you out with the power you will have at your disposal!
@JoelArseneaultYouTube
@JoelArseneaultYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this explains a lot... The story about the compression ... I checked it when I first assembled it and it was around 150, but it had a lot of assy lube on everything. Around xmas, when I was having all the troubles, I wanted to check the compression, but someone had borrowed my gauge and didn't bring it back... I was frustrated about it... so instead of trying to make arrangements to get it back, I ordered another one.... I had entered my Labrador address, out of boredom. checking shipping to Lab city, and didn't realize that Amazon saves your last address... even if you don't ship to it. I shipped a leak down tester and compression gauge to Labrador🤬 I could tell that the compression was low, but I was hoping that the rings would seat in ... that's why I kept mentioning "break in" and wanted to run it a bunch before testing. I didn't know how low it was, but I knew it was low and was just ignoring it, hoping that it wasn't my main issue... I had told Megan several times that I thought that was the issue, and it would mean getting another set of cylinders, haha.... I wish I wasn't right. Haha... I was using my oem grate, but I do have a scoop one already 😁 I wanted to try it first with the stock one. I'm glad I did. The aluminum one probably would have held up... Crazy how much pressure there is there, haha. I have a set of cylinders off of the parts ski that I bought... one liner is cracked at the bottom... I could possible use them till I get the ones I ordered. 🤷‍♂

@@JoelArseneaultKZbin Wow, yeah well I guess that explains it all, lol! Well, at least you got some good news. That thing is no doubt going to be a beast! I have heard of that. I'm running water through my bars to keep my bars warm. The booties that I have are 5mm neoprene and when I have them on, even in ice water, muy feet don't get cold. Originally I had water lines that I was going to put into my gloves and run water into my wet suit, but it turns out that my wetsuit is good enough that I don't need that 👍

@JoelArseneaultYouTube
@JoelArseneaultYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Haha... yup. Days like this you just gotta accept it and wait for a better one. I actually have 3 sets of cylinders, and all of them have some sort of issue. The one that I may end up using is std bore, but one liner is cracked at the bottom from a rod hitting it... I could probably cut a piece out and make it work in the meantime.... and hope that the "new" set that I ordered are really std bore also... so that I don't have to get another set of pistons. That may happen.
