I love that you noticed Storm & Jean's friendship. They're really close in the comics, having kind of a sisterly bond with each other, some even considered (one of each others) best friends, but I feel like they don't really show it enough in the movies. I love that they had the two of them paired off/teamed up together for most of this film in particular, though...

Wolverine’s pure mutant ability is his regenerative healing and heightened senses. The claws are also his mutant power but it’s actually an extra set of bones. The adamantium is all Stryker’s work. It’s just grafted to his skeletal structure.

@@arbington Magnetism, or more accurately electromagnetism, is one of the four fundamental forces that govern the universe as we know it. It's anything but simple. The extent of Magneto's power is mind-blowing once you start considering the physics behind it. He can alter the electromagnetic spectrum itself. Think about that for a moment: he can manipulate at will radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, and even gamma rays. He can also create electricity from magnetic fields and generate extreme heat (see eddy currents) if he so desires. And that's before going into his comic book feats, which include abnormal telepathic resistance, the ability to create literal wormholes, astral projection, and his capacity to alter actual living organisms by changing their internal chemistry (which again involves electromagnetism)!
@arbington4 ай бұрын
@@plocky4275 You also forgot his magnetic personality. Can’t forget that. lol But yeah that’s kinda what I meant. On a surface level, it’s a deceptively simple power to have. And compared to some other mutants, you’d think he’d be small fry. But he’s very smart and he knows a million and one ways to apply his control of magnetism. Like you say, it’s a fundamental force of the universe. Used properly it can be so much more than just twisting metal around. And in a world where we’ve fashioned practically everything from metal, that alone can be quite impressive in the hands of someone clever. He could exercise truly godlike powers on a whim but why bother, when he can accomplish all he needs just by making a show of tossing cars and bullets back at people. To most people that alone is more than terrifying enough to get the point across.

I remember the summer of 2003 very clearly. We were fresh off a summer the previous year where “Spider-Man” lifted us up from the seriousness of 9/11. Heck, I recall how my high school band mates and I spent one hot day after marching band practice going to the local movie theater to see “Finding Nemo”, and we had a blast. This film was just as much of a blast. This film continued to build on the promise of a proper live action adaptation of the fantastic X-Men animated series, which adapted the magnificent comics. “X-2” more than lived up to the anticipation, and we were just a summer away from the fantastic “Spider-Man 2” and “The Incredibles”, and two summers away from “Batman Begins”. If it weren’t for Marvel and its Cinematic Universe changing the game for comic book movies, who knows how many more X-Men movies we could have had…

I can see how Magneto can come across as a mutant supremacist, but to me, I see him as someone that knows on a deep and fundamental level what it feels like to he treated as subhuman/ lesser, and so he when he talks to younger mutants who have experienced that same discrimination, he wants to build them up. He wants them to feel proud to be their authentic self. Magneto loves Xavier like a brother, but Xavier's power allows him to look inside people's minds and find the good in them. Charles always was trying to give Magneto hope Xavier's was could work, because he could build on that goodness he saw in them. Magneto's counter point to that is "it doesn't matter if deep down they're a good person, if they're obeying their orders to round up mutants and put them in camps. After surviving his own time spent in a concentration camp, he adopted the outlook of "never again." It's hard to fault him for that.

The thing most people, including myself don't get in the first time seing this movie is why Jean sacrifice herself. Why se didn't do all that inside the Jet? Thats because she's afraid. In the begining of the movie, during Scott and Jean's converstion at the museum, it was said that her powers had grown and tha she was diferent after the battle in the last movie, with Jean saying that she's afraid that something terrible gonna happend. There's a deleted scene in the extende cut that we see her drifiting away during the flight and starts controling the Jet changing it's course without even realising she's doing it. She has the glowing eyes and a look of joy on her face by realising the growth of her powers, scaring the others and herself. When Jean snaps out of it, she looks away in shame. That's why she do it. Because she knew her powers where growing beyond her control and she was afraid of what she could become and that it would hurt her friends.

Yea! You had a half formed thought about why did Jason present themself as a girl. I doubt myself that it was the director's conscious intention, clearly he intended Jason to present themself as a sweet innocent person that you would do things for. But to me as an audience member in 2024 it really does read as a trans experience! Jason presenting themself as his true nature, the last time he was happy, as a child. Would certainly fit with mutants being othered, and a parent rejecting them, and Stryker even going further to want them "fixed". Especially as we had the "tried not being a mutant" scene as an allegory for queer people. I wouldn't put too much weight into my half formed thought - but it is interesting!

I don't think Meg's questioning of why Jason chose to portray as a girl is unfounded. The queer allegory is obvious in this series, and even though trans visibility was very low then, I don't think it's impossible that that was the subtle intention of the filmmakers.

Im with you. Regardless of if this was the original intention or not, I think it adds a lot of characterization to Jason. Its also fitting for Jason of all characters to be trans given that he seems trapped in his body, and underwent more trauma by his father rejecting his identity than anybody else in the film. I do think this being intentional is somewhat unlikely given when the movie came out, but I think its a solid head canon at the very least that adds more depth to the character. Also, we DID have movies like The Matrix that had intentional trans allegories, and that came out 4 years earlier, so its definitely not impossible.
