Probably one of the best how to videos I seen, THANKS TRW lists 3 different types of rear pads: TRH, TXC, and TXH without any explanation of differences. TXC seems to be the Ultra but not sure which is the Pro or what the third type is. Small error, your rear pad vid parts list says "front pads" but gives the rear pad part number.

I love your channel, you do an awesome job of explaining step by step. Can you send me a link of a video that you made to open piston for EPB with a diagnostic tool? I accidently damage one of T30 bolt, and I can open the EPB manually. I bought a tool ZR15s from Harbor Freight, but I can seem to open the piston. Thx

Hey thanks for the video I imagine this will help me out tomorrow. So just by unplugging the caliper will slacken off the rear brakes enough to remove the caliper from the rotor?

So would you think that if my brake sensor light hasn't gone on yet that I just need to replace the pads, and not the rotors? (I realize you can't say for sure since you can't see them, but just for arguments sake.) I always feel like when I get my brakes done, they ALWAYS want to change the rotors too..
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY 3 жыл бұрын
+Dr Kenneth Noisewater the sensor is only for pad thickness and has nothing to do with your rotors. A set of rotors can usually last through a couple sets of pads. You can measure the thickness of your rotors to determine if they are below the minimum recommended thickness or not and feel them to see if they are smooth or have grooves. If they have grooves and are thick enough, you can have them turned (shaved back to flat) and reuse them. If they are already smooth and still thick enough, just change the pads.

BMW recommends changing brake rotors when change pads. Can you explain why rotors were not replaced? Thanks
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY Жыл бұрын
+Jones Cor because there was still plenty of rotor left. Only the pads were worn down to a level that needed replacing.

Good job, but you forgot to apply grease onto the brake pads, so there is now metal on metal between the pads and the clips, which can cause noise when you brake the car!

If your brake sensor light is on in the dash, do you change the sensor along with the pads or is there a way to reset the sensor? I would like to assume yhe sensor should be a non consumable part. The dealer seems to want change the rotors and sensor quoting me $1000 plus tax. Any info would greatly valued. Thanks.
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY Жыл бұрын
+M N a brake wear sensor is a simple wire inside a plastic casing the gets pressed against the rotor when it sticks past the brake pad when it gets worn down enough. When the wire gets ground down by making contact with the rotor it severs, no longer allowing electricity to pass through it. That makes the dash light come on. So yes, if you wait too long (until the light comes on), you have to physically replace that sensor with a new one. If you keep an eye on your pads yourself (like you should) and replace them before they are too worn (and before the light comes on), you can reuse the sensors indefinitely.
