I sand 220 and use matte polycrylic. I havent tried using a heat gun to dry it though.

What grit sandpaper do you start and end with?

What kind of clamps do you use to hold the whole thing together after gluing the boards? Where can one purchase them?

Those are 3/4" pipe clamps. They sell them at your local home depot stores usually where the tape measures and hand tools are. The 3/4" clamps alone are $22 each clamp. You need at leaat two. Then you'd have to buy a black steel pipe, $33 for a 10 foot section. HD will also cut the pipe down to the size you need. I usually do 2 three foot sections and 1 four foot section. You'd need two of the bessey 3/4" pipe clamps at least. Thank you.

Another cheaper alternative would be to visit a harbor freight and buy their bar clamps but they're pretty flimsy. With these specific glue ups, you want the boards as flat as possible. Also, make sure to look at the end grain and use an alternating pattern of the wooden rings.

@@X3WorkshopDesigns What is the black steel pipe you are referring to?
@X3WorkshopDesigns2 жыл бұрын
@@ChaunaCasteel they're black steel pipes mainly used for gas in homes. Make sure they're 3/4" in size to match the 3/4" pipe clamps from bessey.

Can you stain the boards before gluing them together?
@X3WorkshopDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Yes. But be sure to tape up the section that's being glue as the glue won't adhere to the stain or finish.

You need to secure the wood when you are routing. Not safe when it moves.

That's true but I've been doing this long enough and I'm comfortable with my router.
