X5 plus Sailing Catamaran (Xquisit)

Miami Boat Show 2022 had an amazing sailing catamaran called the Xquisit X5 Plus. Today we talk to owner and founder Thomas and he shows me around the design he has used to travel around the world.

ALFRED Hello, I have only been on 1 cat sailboat,@ THE BITTER END YACHT CLUB,,,, ‘PARANDA, A dear lady friend & I used to travel together, she was a BOSTONIAN , but lived in BAYSIDE QUEENS NY, we used to go to the NY BOAT SHOW @ JAVITS CENTRE, so many years ago I discovered how much REAL SPACE there was on sailboats, but low space on power boats as the as space was taken by the engines, all her family were sailors by sailboats, she moved back to BASS RIVER MASSASSUCETS , and died there , sadly. For someone who doesn't do sail boat's you did a great job asking all the " newbie " questions. I got a ton of information from the questions you asked. Thomas did an amazing job with answering the questions, and if and when I am in the market, I will definitely consider this cat. Tell the owner this is the best looking, owner operator cat I've seen and has so many nice features. A very smart catamaran. I'm going to imagine myself and some friends sitting on that sofa, listening to a gentle rain, planing where to go next. The law of attraction making this happen for someone with no money! I'm really glad you did this video on this sail boat because if you want to go transatlantic and beyond, a motorized boat just isn't going to do it. Lovely Vessel, of all that has been shown I can say this seems to be well thought out from the view of a full time live aboard and sailing! Adore the tool stowage! Rain water collection is what should be the norm! So useful!

There's a different YT channel that sailed one of these boats and had a problem with the water maker. Xquisite didn't just talk them through fixing it, they flew a guy out from the factory to Jamestown in Saint Helena with a suitcase of parts to do the repair even though they knew the repair would take a few hours but the flights to Saint Helena are only weekly so once on the island, he was stuck for a week on company time. It totally redefines what customer service should be.

Hi there! 1st time viewer, but avid boat watcher. On a production side note a few things: A. Try to come into the show/what you're showing us, at least semi prepared. I know you said at the beginning you're new at this, and "I don't know this, that, etc", it just helps with the feel of it. B. You're WAY too close to your camera. Not sure if it's a go-pro strapped to you, but hearing you Hard breathing, inside and even outside was extremely off putting. C. The engine/generator room is missing from the walk-through. As for someone who might be interested in the boat, not even seeing it would turn me away. I hope you take this as just constructive criticism, and not an attack. 😉 I hope you do well in your future endeavors.

Too many systems, too complicated. I understand that new boats are going this way now-a-days, but for me, if I'm sailing around the world, I want to keep it simple. What happens if I get a lightning strike in Papua New Guinea? That fancy electronic IPad that's so integral to the function of the boat will be useless. Can I get a technician to PNG to fix it? Probably not. I will probably have to have the yacht towed to Indonesia just to find a yard with the proper facilities to fix it enough to limp it to Australia for the real repair. What a nightmare. And lightning strikes happen a lot when cruising. At least with a simpler boat, I can pull out the paper charts and make my way to a boat yard where I can find parts and expertise to repair all the fried electronics. The stuff on this boat looks to be very proprietary, and I doubt Xquisit will allow a random yard worker to work on it.

It's actually fitted with common equipment to sail the boat. Even the electric winches can be manually wound by inserting the handle. There are tiller points to fit a handle to if your steering mechanism fails. There are a second set of instruments at the nav station inside which you could use in case of main helm failure. You will find cat's with this level of tech have lightning grounding lines feeding from the mast to the keels under water, which means you'll probably lose your masthead cameras and antennae etc, but the majority of the electrics will be okay. The tablet control is for convenience, and there are switches located on the devices as well. You won't need to find a worker to replace this kind of tech, it's fairly simple to switch out, just unplug and replace.
