Love how you're demonstrating it doesn't take much gear to live/survive a night out. Even in cold weather. Have a friend who loves to day hike. She had a scary hike one time where she got off trail and was afraid she wouldn't make it back to the trailhead and would have to spend at least one night out. She didn't carry much with her expecting just routine day trips. She was so shaken she was telling me she was probably going to stop hiking which she loved. I encouraged her to put together some simple items to carry just for spending a night out if she ever had to. A couple of ways to start a fire, a poncho for weather or shelter, a whistle, paracord, a water bottle and a metal cup, water purification tablets, a couple of energy bars, a headlamp. Add whatever else you like, say a map of the area. Then go someplace you're familiar with, hike out a little way, not far, not so far you couldn't easily walk back to your vehicle even at night. Pick a good campsite and spend the night out with just those items. Do it just to show yourself you can. You'll learn from the experience, most importantly you'll learn about yourself. How to face your fear and anxiety, how to make a better shelter, how to learn that it may not be the most comfortable night ever but it will be rewarding. I also love how you show the most important item to have even if you don't keep it in your container kit. Your attitude. Stay calm, be prepared, keep thinking how to solve problems. Damp icy spruce bows? Simple dry them by the fire. Carry some tape to fix the tear you know will likely happen in the mylar or plastic. Practice these scenarios and your skills and confidence will grow. And if you ever are faced with a situation where you might have to rely on yourself and a few select items you'll already know you can do it. Love how you've done episodes using less and less or more simple gear. Very cool.

Hi Xander. Well another great adventure in the books, along with your little bit of silliness. Excellant all the way thru. Great way to finish off the year. I'll leave you with this. Cold winds mingle in any nook and cranny they find as Winter spreads her cloak around herself and like a breath of fresh air breathes a sigh at the beauty of it all.. and this xander is your playground in all the seasons, you happily share with us. Happy New Year.

Video suggestion since you asked: I’d love to see you spend a night or two with a traditional cowboy bedroll, and “frontier-like” tools. It would be a fun excuse for some bushcraft and maybe a history lesson 🙏

Something I learned during my years in the Boy Scouts in regards to Duct Tape is to wrap a bunch around a pen. You can get 2 long strips around the pen, not only does this give you way more tape than those little squares but also a pen for writing or even when necessary to poke holes in any plastic or tarps.
