Shad is killing his own channel. These are merely the consequences of his own actions. I'm usually fair and unbiased with these things. The guy is a whiny l0ser and is constantly dodging responsibility for his own screw ups and it's tiresome. I don't accept this victimization narrative from Shad on the right nor Jim Sterling's victimization narrative on the left. "KZbin" and/or haters aint killing their respective channels - THEY ARE.

The appeal of Shad's content used to be that this sort of fat, sort of old, nerdy goofball was just having a blast and living his best life, while also being in the niche that got me to watch Skallagrim, Matt Easton, and others. Then he started perpetually whining about things like the Star Wars sequels and all the good will he had built up quickly ran out. That took the veneer of good natured goofiness off of his previous content and revealed a lot of problematic behaviors that I overlooked before. Eventually he started openly palling around with Nazis and making the sword nerd equivalent of Andrew Tate content, but fortunately I was already gone by then.

What I think people like that don't realise is that people will be quite forgiving of their politics if they just don't bring it up much... but everyone's going to have a point where they start looking somewhere else for the same kind of content. And there's almost certainly *going* to be similar content that doesn't come with all the same baggage. That said, I feel like the fact that so many people veer so hard in the same bad direction - i.e. whining about whatever movie is in the headlines this month - means it's intentional with a lot of them, and it's probably done *before* the general audience notice that they're starting to dip.

It wasn't his rightwing nonsense that killed his channel. As a long time and largely a-political watcher, the quality dropped off hard, they're lazy and sloppy, hard to watch. Furthermore he's been whining about views and youtube suppression for a year. every single video he does on it is more irritating then the last. His videos have become a lot of edging to lead people into his patreon to see the "real" content. I'm sorry as cool as your content is, every video if you talk about something cooler you did for a patreon then you're just frustrating your audience Finally his content is weapon content. and youtube delists that stuff heavy. so he's playing in a field where his content gets suppressed just for existing. History content gets that a lot too.

I take it you didn't watch the video. Yes, he began the cratering all on his own, but just from what Xan said about seeing a similar effect on his channel at the same times as Shad, YT started piling dirt on top of the smoking rubble. If he had still been making decent content and not shoved both feet in his mouth, he might be weathering it better, but Xan basically confirmed that YT fucked with the algorithm in January.

Then he shared a few more quotes from Imperium propaganda and Shad says that's phrased very harshly. In the end, Shad is quite happy that he shares attitudes with the Imperium. The continual right wing claims of censorship against them do in fact worry me.. not because I believe it for a second, but because every accusation from them soon turns out to be an admission. There is a BIG reason why big artists and businesses try to keep their political talk to a minimum, because it can affect their brand. I like Shad and his channel but most of this is his own fault, he started a very entertaining channel about swords and combat and people came in droves, now he goes off COMPLETELY unrelated to what the channel was originally about and now it is YT fault? Listen, as much as I dislike YT, this is purely self-inflicted.

I’m not gonna say that politics are the reason, but I am going to say that I am someone that used to watch his content but stopped due to politics and told KZbin to not recommend videos to me from him. If KZbin thinks that I’d like his content then it can be assumed that people who are similar to me are also getting that same recommendation and are then potentially choosing to not watch or are telling KZbin explicitly not to recommend it. What I’m saying is that his political reach might turn off new viewers in a way that might be not connected to any specific action on his part. KZbin just might see a pattern where new viewers just aren’t interested in his content.

@greywolf7577 a lot of people simply stop watching without unsubbing, and if they are subbed but not engaging, the algorithm takes that as a sign and they push the channel less. Or maybe the specific swords and castles content he's making isn't good anymore. It also could be that after those actual HEMA guys called him out for being a hack LARPer, his audience stopped wanting to hear what he had to say. I doubt someone at KZbin turned a nob to kill his channel
@griffindault
@griffindault 6 ай бұрын
@@greywolf7577 yes there definitely must be another reason. Perhaps it has something to do with your conclusion being based on a premise that doesn't conform to reality. There are tons of KZbin channels that still have tons of subscribers that get like 10% of that in views on new videos they put out because they lost the audience they had either due to the content getting stale or the channel no longer making the same stuff they built their audience with. It's not like the new videos don't show up in your subscription feed subscribers just don't watch the videos the creator is putting out. Boogie2988 is a great example, about 4 million subs but gets low 20k views on videos at this point.

Trust me when I say that KZbin isn't the one killing his channel. Shad doesn't like to admit when he's wrong and take accountability for it. It's led to a lot of his fans leaving him. People like me who used to frequent his channel for his videos on historical "accuracy"... which we've all eventually come to find out isn't actually all that accurate, and that he's hardly ever actually done research on the stuff he seems to show such a high amount of fascination for. His dogging on Hidetaka Miyazaki's way of writing in Fromsoft's games alone really put a sour taste in my mouth, especially as Shad continued to throw a fit when people told him that it was simply a different way of writing. Honestly, to find out that people did not like Shad's own book at all... it's quite ironic that HE of all people tried to be the judge on how others should write their stories.
