In part 2, the team at Green Country RV Doctor installs the Xantrex Freedom SW Inverter/Charger system in their RV which will be used to help communities in the rural areas. One of the key requirements of the disaster relief / medical van was true sine, reliable power. No other product in the market except the Freedom SW fit the bill, according to Jim Hughes, president of the Green Country RV Doctor.

OMG I though I was messing something up every time I connected the positive and it sparked. Thank you! Also, I use it straight to my Chevy Cavalier and everything went fine, but with my Toyota Sienna the van shut down (the engine was not on, just the dashboard, etc.) I think it has like a fool proof switch that prevents dumb people like me doing that. (Was not your brand of inverter)

Wish tech expanded upon his comment that hot lead sparks and that he says is normel when capacitor charges. I don't like sparks in rv. Also I see fuse laying near inverter. Shouldn't the fuse be near battery itself ?

I have two SW3012's in a stacked series configuration. One inverter was purchased in 2012 F/W ver. 2.02.00 and the other purchased in 2023 F/W 3.14.00. The SCP was purchased in 2012. Firmware on the latest model SCP's is a newer version than the one installed on my older SCP. I installed them in a vented compartment and they are connected to utility power and a bank of 4 LIFePo4 12v batteries. The system operates as designed but the fans on the older inverter (master) seem to run continuously and this has me a little concerned. The fans on the newer inverter operate seldom if at all. Does anyone have suggestions on how to rectify this so each inverter has fans operating intermittently? Power failures are infequent so the inverter function seldom gets exercised.

The best inverter but the worst connection box ever. That thick wire is extremely hard to put into the lug holes. 1st the tight angle bends of the wire then trying to shove a multi stranded wire into the tight holes is hard to do one strand seems to want to hold up going into small hole combined with the limited space to move wires around. Just make that connection area twice as big or enlarge the lug holes so shoving in the wire is easier.

Question: On the 3012 dual line in/out, is each line 1500 or 3000 watts max. I only have a 30 amp single phase inlet so therefore can only use a single outlet line using L1 so wondering it that’s only 1500 watts. Or is both lines shared in the 3000 watt max so for example if your using 2800 watts on L1 then there’s only 200 watts available on L2? Thanks....
@XantrexTechnology
@XantrexTechnology 4 жыл бұрын
The answer for this will depend on whether or not you are inverting or on pass-through power. If inverting then both outlets on the FreedomSW3012 are actually the same circuit. This means that you are looking at a total of 3000 watts combined and it doesn’t matter how the power is split between the two outputs. If you are on pass-through then the Freedom can pass 30A (amps) through each input/output. This is not 30A plus 30A combined. It is 30A through leg one and 30A through leg two. Hope this answers your question clearly. For further assistance, please feel free to call our tech support at 18006700707. Thanks

Has anyone come across after installing the 3012 getting AC power in but no AC power out on a boat? I am completely stumped. If you have, please contact me and tell me how you fixed it.

815-2012 only has L1. 815-3012 has both L1 & L2. If you have 3012, use L1 only .

All that money and they still use Romex and cheap connectors. At least use commercial grade seal tight connectors and MC cable. And no that sparking is not normal. The damn system was under load and could have shorted out sensitive electronic devises!
@sqhschief
@sqhschief 9 жыл бұрын
Claude Rains Yes that spark is normal. The system was not under load. The spark comes from current traveling to charge the capacitors in the inverter. If you have ever installed any inverter in your life, you would know that this is normal, and happens every time with every inverter.
@WizzRacing
@WizzRacing 9 жыл бұрын
Its not normal. As it only charges the capacitors when it is on! I have my electrical license and engineering degree for 25 years. What is your credentials? If none. Then come back when you do idiot.
@Kernelspoke
@Kernelspoke 9 жыл бұрын
Claude Rains At first I thought you were right until I recently installed a brand new fully functional Tripplite inverter/charger. Sparking in any electrical installation noted by any engineer immediately signifies a fault unless it is inclusive in its design specification by the specific manufacturer. It is very sad that many "professionals" use credentials to prove a point. It is a subconscious attempt to compensate for an inadequacy in making a convincing valid argument. Unfortunately no amount of credentials is going to give you any valid practical real life experience. So using credentials to shove your point down people's throat is acting in the very insult you are throwing around and probably will be throwing more around after reading my comment. Your credentials however subordinate or intimidating you think they might be before others give you ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to insult or abuse anyone or the product itself, if anything the very act discredits you as a professional right away, not even a reliable source of information because no sensible certified licensed Pro will hurl insults to get anything done, even in making a point. The portrait you are trying to portray will automatically seen in your verbal execution of which yours is painfully lacking and direly controversial. Like I said I thought you were right about the sparking until I experienced it myself installing a different brand and the manufacturer confirmed that the unit is sound. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that even with your "intimidating" credentials you aren't as experienced as sqhschief is. You have yet to run into various other brands that elicit this kind of behavior and are sound even after installation and operation. I will not stoop down to any of your comeback insults or abusive language as you have already rebranded yourself as unprofessional with a meaningless 25yrs. You may want to go ON and ON about sparking being a universal fault in all units but looking down this comment section, will actually prove that that sparking is normal IN SOME other design specifications.
@WizzRacing
@WizzRacing 9 жыл бұрын
Inter Reducer Well you should call the manufacture and read the manual. It states risk of electrical shock or death. "Discharge" before making any connections! Just to add. The amount of current released is enough to burn half the lug away and or connector.
@Kernelspoke
@Kernelspoke 9 жыл бұрын
Claude Rains Since you seem to be having trouble getting it, take a look at these 6 clear examples by known manufacturers including the so called manual you are asking me to read:- 1) Look at Q14 in the FAQs here - exeltech.com/faq/#q14 2) Read point number 4 in "Caution" paragraph here - www.projecta.com.au/site/DefaultSite/filesystem/documents/Inverters/IP150-1000_instructions_Issue1.pdf 3) Read roman page 5 "Notes" section here - www.xantrex.com/documents/Power-Inverters/Xantrex-Inverters-Hardwired/XPower%201000%20Inverter%20Owners%20Guide%20%28975-0557-01-01_Rev-B%29.pdf 4) Read the "Connecting inverters to battery paragraph" here - www.brightgreenenergy.co.uk/installing-inverters.asp 5) Read the "Battery" section on roman page 8 here:- www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/manuals/901-0607.pdf It even clearly warns you not to connect the batteries to the inverter in the presence of inflammable fumes... I think that is VERY OBVIOUS that it tells you that the unit will spark if you do so. 6) Read point number 4 under "Battery connection warning" on page 3R here - www.tripplite.com/shared/techdoc/owners-manual/932144.pdf So much for your touted "intimidating" credentials with 25yrs experience when I have to be the one to enlighten you with factual information from several sources showing that you are CLEARLY not as experienced as you think you are and to think that you even have the audacity to talk down and insult *+sqhschief.* You clearly do not know that majority of low frequency DC to AC inverters do have capacitors responsible for the sparking even with all those years of experience. I even now doubt that you are an actual engineer because some of these things should be obvious. Engaging you further beyond this point is a waste of my precious time. YOU SHOULD BE NOW ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!

Brother I have a 3000 wat inverter charger . And am selling it . I got it from my old boss who owns a solar business . I was doing fiberglass on his boat that is going to be a solar powered boat . It is used I have never used it as I live in an apt . And really can't attach any panels to the apartment . Or do any grid tie or anything similar . It is just sitting here . With that said . If you are interested . I will have the unit tested as I plan on doing . I was searching for info on how to go about testing the unit when I found this video . So if you may be interested . Contact me though messaging me from You Tube and I will give you my phone number . I have the xantrex # 458 3000 watt inverter charger . It is not the same one that is in this video . What I would do if you are interested is look into some type of video calling though the phone and run it live as you would be able to see it . I don't know where you live but I live in central FL . And was a seller on ebay for some time and had a excellent feed back . I am selling it for 400.00 . Let me know and we can go from there . Possibly meet if you live in the south east US . God Bless

There are many factors that determine the runtime of an appliance including any other electronics that you may run off battery power, the amount of time you are plugged-in and available sun hours. In ideal conditions, you may get up to 23-24 amp from three 160W panels and you may be able to run your fridge continuously assuming you will be able to replenish your batteries consistently and daily. But again, a lot of factors come into play when determining the runtime. Hope this helps!
