Xbox Game Pass and New Subscribers Are the Wells Drying Up?

The biggest thing that keeps me from streaming games is modern game HUDs. Playing older, graphically simpler games on my phone/tablet is much easier on the eyes than something like CoD or Battlefield. Can't even read the start menus.

The reason no one ever brings Nintendo into the sales conversation is because they are not seen as a competition for PS5 or Xbox by many - because many buy a Switch as a secondary console. I did, and I personally know 4 people who have either a PS or an Xbox and also a Switch. Nintendo has been successful at carving out their own little (or not so little) space where they basically have no competition...

This is like when WoW stopped stating subscription numbers. Also, have to disagree on Cloud gaming. The infrastructure isn’t there and it’s so different from state to state, country to country. We might get there eventually, but it’s not 10 years from now. It’s probably not 15 years from now, really. GeForce Now is arguably the best Cloud streaming around. And it still isn’t an ideal solution between latency and video quality. Even Mr. Casual is going to notice that they are playing at 420p with button presses not registering consistently.

Until most NA connections are on fiber-optic and provide extremely high speed at very affordable prices, "cloud gaming" will remain a pipe dream. That said, an affordable service that doesn't require you to buy $500 consoles or $1500 PCs (because the service hosts would be doing the heavy lifting on their end) does hold a certain appeal. We're just nowhere near that potential reality.

Unfortunately PC players don't seem too eager to get Gamepass. Most of them already have Steam anyway, or prefer options like GOG (or what it's called today). That leaves them really only with their console base as potential subscribers.... too bad that those numbers are now slowly dwindling.

Gamepass has been on pc since they announced day and date. Gamepass is a failure. The value of gamepass is so good and yet subscriptions have remained stagnant.

we already have cloud gaming with steam, unless you are saying cloud gaming in the way that you don't need a storage device. In that case tho I would say gaming as a product is a lot closer to itunes... meaning you don't want to have your access to paid products removed like netflix does. In most regards most people are already "cloud gaming" other then the aspect that a company can delete your account and refuse you access to your games.

Cancelled my Ultimate subscription a couple of months ago, and I don't see a reason to resub. I just don't see a whole lot of value in GamePass in 2024, especially with Steam sales.
