I love the IP but I think 343 can't improve and advance the franchise, it seems like they are stuck in its past success. Don't believe me? This was meh! On paper I'm excited for "some of these games", but how they were presented was very underwhelming. Not a good presentation in my opinion. Halo looked good. However, if this wasn't Halo and you showed some random fps in this way it would seem generic and boring. wtf is Rare's new game? Enough said. State of Decay 3 with no gameplay...? I feel like people try to like this franchise but with no gameplay... Come on! Obsidians new game is exciting but can't say much for a 10 second trailer. Stalker 2 is hype but I'll play it on PC and the trailer was so bland. Fable trailer with no gameplay. Really? This wasn't a good presentation!

Couldn’t agree more this conference should have tried to sway the people on the other side like myself and showing me nothing but CG trailers does nothing for me. Like where was the high profile game outside of the mainstays like Halo, Gears, Fable and Forza. Halo didn’t look next gen at all, Fable was a 10 sec trailer, Forza showed less than GT7 (and I’m not a racing sim person anyways). This is an awful showing for their games and was more about gamepass. Only Obsidians game and the medium had me excited

Even though it was Halo it was generic and boring. They're just trying to make the first one again, but since the OT was remastered recently Infinite barely looks like a step up. They've also only shown 1 ship interior and just a small foresty area of the map. Is that all you're doing in the game? Just aimlessly running around shooting things? Where's the intensity? Where's the story? We have just over 4 months in the year, likely less time until release of the game. Is it even close to being done? This was the best they had to show? Pretty weak.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was originally announced to be in development back in 2010 (less than a year after Call of Pripyat was released), but in 2012 GSC Game World was dissolved and the game was cancelled after 2 years in development. A lot of the studio left and formed their own studio (Vostok Games) and tried to get the rights/IP for the game from GSC Game World but were unsuccessful. There were rumors the IP and rights were sold off to places like Bethesda or bitComposer. These rumors were proven to be false. GSC Game World reopened/relaunched in 2014 but no mention of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as a series or as a new game was mentioned officially until May 2018 when they announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was in the works (again) and planned for a 2021 release. It is believed (but I'm not 100% sure if confirmed) that this was a complete restart, meaning it is not based on the 2 years of work done before the original games cancellation in 2012. So "this" version of the game was only announced 2 years ago.

I feel like in terms of number of announcements they were there, but there was too much pre-rendered or CG stuff and even those weren't as exciting as some CG trailers we're used to see. When even Forza isn't ready to be captured on the Series X, it's disappointing.

@@Ayoul i won't say it's cgi. Obsidian, playground & ninja theory all develop under UE. Fable and avowed looks on par with hellblade 2. I think the "Next gen" leap is what people consider "CGI". Saw the same reaction on EA next gen snippets. 2021-22 will be the time people will start scratching their head in terms of what these systems are capable of.

@@BobBob-gk9ej I've already seen a project based on UE using hand sculpt photogrammetry assets. It's on par with what playground have shown today. I agree about studios need to show more gameplay instead of a teaser. But don't take your frustration out by saying everything is CGI, Folks need to understand there is alot of marketing going behind the scenes which is the main reason why no one have shown "real next gen" gameplay yet. FYI - Halo never aimed to be XSX exclusive. It's a current gen project, and not very ambitious one, downgrade was only matter of time (like many exclusive titles by both Sony and MS the last 8 years).

@@franjaff6919 But here is the thing, the Halo community hates change. Like adding ADS which has become a fps standard is considered bad. 343 is stuck in a hard position. If they change too much the long time fans complain but if they don't change at all new comers say its dated/more of the same.

That's literally what people have been asking for though, so it seems hard for 343 to catch a break. I had similar conversations with people about Need for Speed Heat last year. In general, devs can't please everybody so either they take sides, or they look for middle ground. In NFS it was between fans wanting classic style storytelling, customization and open world gameplay, or something new. They went with somewhat middle ground, and fans were somewhat split. With Halo, there's contention in the community between those who want new, altered, refined Halo experiences and those who want classic, *no sprint!* (they're very adamant about this for some reason) semi-twitchy Halo, akin to the original Bungie games. I'm pretty happy with this all things considered, but I tempered my expectations after playing Halo 4 and 5. A lot of people wanted either some huge shift or a return to form, and this being somewhat in between those things seems to have left a lot of people unsure and uneasy. Personally I think it's going to be great, but that's because I adore Halo 1, and didn't hate Halo 4 and 5, which this seems to be a combination of. I think (and hope) that it will surprise a lot of people.

I think it's how hyped up they made it. insiders were claiming that it was going to blow the competition out the water, and mic drop moments. I felt it was very luke warm, they had some nice surprises (STALKER 2 I did not see coming) but I didn't get the same excitement I got from Sonys. It's like a 6/10, but because it was hyped to be 11/10, it felt worse. Plus nothing actually really showed the power of Xbox (despite Phil Spencer constantly saying it's the most powerful console ever) and nothing was really a console seller, plus all but 1 game is also available on PC. Which is the best thing that came out of this conference imo...

Shane Pipher Gamepass is nothing but games as a service fee. You pay monthly fees to access quantity over quality games you will never own and have to pay to play for the rest of your lives. But MS is pro consumer yet they are charging you life time fee to access games you will never own or play. People want NEW things in nextgen not keep everything the same, keep controller the same, keep the games the same, make old games accessible, wait years before new games, delay the only big game you have, start charging monthly fees for access to bunch of crappy games. ​@@Barista.Nathan While Ratchet and Clank looked gorgeous, it feels like it was made for the purpose of showcasing the new SSD's capabilities and wasn't all that hype for me. I never owned an Xbox console before, and I had a PS2, PS3, PS3 Slim, PS4, and then a PS4 Pro, and I REALLY like the games shown on Xbox's conference more when compared to the PS5. At least they didn't start off with GTA5 as their opener, and their show didn't consist of mainly shitty indie games (I love indie games, but most on Sony's show were trash). I can get the "No gameplay" argument, but like... E3 was almost always a place for announcements, or at least it felt like that to me. Either way seems like PC + Switch is the way to go in this next-gen.

Very obvious, and this is something they could have easily omitted, but are likely preparing fans for what to expect in the new Halo. This is where the higher bandwidth of the PS5 (5GB - 9GB) data transfer, would greatly benefit asset loading. The reason that TFLOPS are not a good way to judge performance is because not all systems' GPUs are not clocked the same. PS5 @2.23GHz Vs. the Xbox Series X @1.825GHz. The same could be said for comparing the TFLOPS of the PS4 to the PS5, and so on.

It's kinda sad that Xbox never really had a next-gen reveal event. Remember when PS5, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, etc. were revealed? Hype. Remember when Xbox Series X was revealed? Me neither. I suppose it was first announced at The Game Awards 2019 with a video that had no context until the box was revealed. Then just sprinkles of information until now and then this underwhelming conference. It really is much better to hold off your big reveals for one big high-budget show that everyone is watching at the same time.

I think a big problem is Microsoft's restriction of not releasing Series X exclusive games for a certain period of time. Whereas Sony is letting devs make games that aren't releasing for PS4/PS4 Pro day 1 when PS5 launches if they want. Halo Infinite for example having to support everything from Series X and PC down to the base Xbox One has to be quite limiting to the devs. Guessing that's why it just looks like 4K 60 FPS current gen game. It's not taking any advantage of stuff that they can only do on Series X / Windows like real time ray tracing, at least not at launch since we found out ray tracing will be added in a post launch patch at some point. So, to get it out the door they do the simple things to take advantage of the extra power like bumping it to full 4K and 60 FPS (which is def nice). All though with Infinite having been in the works for ~5 years I'm guessing it started out as an Xbox One / One X title and got changed to be "optimized for Series X" later in development.

Halo only looks run of the mill because so many shooters after it were inspired by it, so this is just one of the originals going back to roots. If you play Microsoft's games on PC you're still in their ecosystem, they don't care where you play as long as you play. You don't have to be sold on a console if you're a PC gamer.

Something has been lost as the barriers to game development have been broken down, and as the general fidelity of the medium continues to grow. In the past, game development was stifled by technological limitations, so storytellers and developers had to think outside the box and innovate in order to tell compelling, evocative and engaging narratives, as well as fun gameplay experiences. They had to work with what they had, and in spite of the difficulty, they made great art. By comparison, when we're able to quickly load up a vast world map filled with realistic representations of animals, humans, and natural landscapes so life-like that they're no longer representative, but actually a mirror image of reality, I think we lose some of the magic that makes games special. Don't get me wrong, Ghost of Tsushima is beautiful, I love that we've come to this place in terms of development that we can craft and view these lush and beautiful vistas to the point where every screenshot can easily be a wallpaper, but I still think there's an incredible amount of value in having to build and create something through the adversity of the old methods. I believe that is why such a small handful of modern games are as special and highly lauded as the multitude of classic titles are. Simply enough, it's harder now to have a focused vision and a fun, encapsulating product because it's become too easy to create, market and sell something which isn't. You can copy and paste gameplay, assets, graphical styles, control mappings, even genres to a degree, but you can't copy and paste soul.

@@Ayoul My concerns are 9 times out of 10 open world design doesn't improve the combat portion of game design (Haven't seen enough to say wither it'll benefit Halo or not). And while I'll take the grappling hook over nothing, it seems uninspiringly pulled from other first person shooters like Titan Fall. What I personally wanted, is that Master Chief is almost like an armored Captain America, so they should have played that strength in their game design. The closest I saw to this was Chief pulling the explosive coil and then throwing it at an enemy only to have an negligible effect.

Yea... pass, "halo" and fable.. if you want exclusives get a PS5. That's coming from an xbox user of 12 years. Just done with their "exclusives

I really don't understand why so many people are moaning and whining saying this was a bad showing. It was dope - xbox games pass lets you get SO many things with no additional cost. Good lord you're entitled.

It was a fantastic show. Xbox did exactly what people asked for, -New IPs -Old IPs coming back -timed exclusives YET now everyone is hating on them still saying they didnt show any new exclusives?!? Xbox can't win I swear lmao.

People asked for new next gen and compelling gameplay. They did not deliver. Halo was about the only major gameplay shown and it looked ANYTHING but next gen. People asked for timed exclusives, even after Phil said a week ago they won't bother with that anymore???

I think too much stock goes into Halo. It's no longer groundbreaking and it doesn't look like it offers different experiences, or very exciting regular experiences. I loved the Xbox 360, but Microsoft doesn't have the creative ingenuity that other console companies do. It's such a shame....then again Hellblade 2 hype!

They barely presented Avowed and Fable and they already want 50 min deep dive gameplay like Cyberpunk 2077, really? Bethesda presents you a teaser of a game that will come out in 5 years and another that shows nothing (TES 6 and Starfield), CDPR released a teaser in 2013 of a game that hopefully is no longer delayed (I love CDPR) it seems that only with Microsoft people get super demanding as if great games were made overnight, MS invested millions and it seems to be little or only annoying the lack of cinematic movie games? WTF

Avowed looks decent, Fable has to prove itself after the atrocious last games. These are the 2 games that came close to even half of what we saw from Sony yet. Halo got hyped for 40 of the 60 minutes preshow, 4 minutes of gameplay that looked like current, early gen titles. No gameplay from Hellblade, which is also supposed to be a system seller.. No gameplay from Forza.. like really? This whole showcase was a 5.5/10 for me, nothing more. Microsoft is the one under the gun.. They HAVE to show something huge that will have people buzzing for days if not weeks after the conference.. Hellblade or Halo were supposed tobe that Wow factor.. and it was quite sadly underwhelming. As a gamer, I'm quite disappointed :(

I agree the showcase wasn't impressive, but I feel like we give Sony more credit because they got announcements from third parties that are either not exclusive or only timed exclusives. MS was focusing hard on Game Pass.

@@Ayoul doesnt really matter if games shown are from third party or first. Btw, on PS5 reveal, more than half the games shown were hard exclusive. What matters is what hypes up the players and make them excited. What sells consoles. This borderline was a snoozefest

@vibhu sharma Watch again. You can actually see some ingame gameplay. Only reason it looks decent is it's one of the very few games we've seen gameplay off and it doesnt look like its from 2017 lol

Halos world looked pretty boring, seems like a chore to explore. Especially coming of Ghost of Tsushima.

Depends on how common vehicles are, I guess. I doubt they're gonna make Chief jog everywhere. I'm also wondering if there's other friendlies there or just enemies.
