You are absolutely spot on. I've been shouting the same. Some gamers need to forget how it used to be and focus onto the future. This Xbox strategy will make Xbox a market leader. Playstation will get left behind eventually unless they also open their mind. Xboxes strategy will mean the Xbox survives and is able to make some of the best games possible. Therefore gamers benefit.

Nice way to explain it Jon! Agree. Ultimately exclusives of single players AAA games aren't moving the needle with today's young adults. The pitch will be value, convenience and innovation of the ecosystem.

I can easily understand the frustrations of someone who invested into the Xbox Series ecosystem only to see many of those games going to other platforms while the players don't get the competitor's games. Play any game on any device sounds like a dream, but we're not remotely close to being there yet, and some are going to fare better than others in the process.

PlayStation is also going multiplatform I mean there are also developing games for Nintendo switch now I mean the Lego game should have been exclusive to PlayStation, PlayStation did have exclusive Lego games of the past and now it seems that PlayStation is also considering going multiplatform just like Xbox. Sony May not be doing it right now aggressively, but possibly during the PlayStation 6 era when everything is super expensive to develop Hardware PlayStation might actually consider putting their games everywhere when consoles are too expensive for the consumer, and let's also not forget that it's getting to the point where even PlayStation is now going to consider putting their games on PC day one soon.

There is quite literally nothing they can say that somebody won't bitch about. I love my Xbox, but I play most of my Xbox games on my PC. That's just me, though. Game Pass gives me games that I don't have to buy individually (yes I understand I subscribe and technically pay). The VAST majority of my gaming is because of Game Pass. I have a friend with an 18 year old son. He also has Game Pass. I have another friend with a wife who has Game Pass. Game Pass is the answer. Cheers, mate.

Well we finally got that platinum achievement at least... I still can't see a future where this doesn't continue to hurt xbox hardware sales to the point it's deemed unworthy by Microsoft but I hope I'm wrong. Playstation sill continue to keep games off Xbox while Xbox gives all games to playstation, as a casual gamer or a new gamer in the next few years, why would you pick the console with the least amount of options in terms of games?

I agree, it's almost necessary with the high costs of game development today, that they almost have to put their 1st party titles on other platforms. However, I think it's the way Xbox is doing it is the problem. Xbox has a smart strategy when it comes to the software and Gamepass being profitable. But they are actively harming the future of their Xbox console hardware by pushing gamers to play their games pretty much everywhere other than on Xbox hardware. For us gamers who do not want to see Xbox stop making actual Xbox systems, we see the writing on the wall that their constant slowing hardware sales will eventually lead to Microsoft big wigs telling Phil to go full on 3rd party. Yeah, I know we're getting next gen hardware because it's already in the pipeline, but who's to say that won't be our last generation of hardware. I really don't care or even like console wars, but I do love consoles. I always purchase every Xbox and Playstation console, sometimes Nintendo, but not as much as the other two. I'm not big on PC gaming, so I'd really hate to see either one of the console companies go full software only. Maybe if they did a timed exclusive to Xbox consoles, then released on PC and other platforms 3 or 6 months later, that would be a little push to their hardware sales foe those gamers who don't want to wait. I just want to see each hardware maker stay strong and competitive in the market. They need competition to stay innovative.

In Phils own words shipping a game on PS gives Sony 30% that they use to take away from Xbox. That will be easier for them with a shrinking Xbox base. There will be more Final Fantasys, Silent Hills, KOTOR remakes, Lego Horizons, WuKongs etc. instead of "exclusives" there will now be games "exclusively not on xbox"

Let's see: Square Enix, Capcom, Atlus, Koei Temco, have all come out recently and said that all games will be multi platform going forward. All Sony first party games are going to PC so are following suit.

Xbox somehow still hasn't learned from the Xbox One, that gamers are stubborn and are so adverse to change that constantly trying to be hyperaggressive in pushing said change on consumers will not actually indoctrinate them into that new normal, but simply prompt them to leave and go to another platform or place that provides the service they're more comfortable with. Everything about this campaign regardless of intent, screams a 2013-level misfire in terms of not actually capturing an audience that exists, because nobody buys stuff like Smart TVs or streaming sticks to play video games. Cloud isn't the future, it's a feature of it. All you're doing is just alienating the people who actually dumped 500 dollars into your platform and your hardware more crucially. They're more likely to use cloud gaming because it's additive to their experience as a hardware user. This other audience buying a TV or using a non-gaming laptop for the express purpose of gaming, just doesn't exist

I think the difficulty here is that Xbox titles on rival platforms doesn't exactly enrich their ecosystem offering. In fact, it's often the inverse. Take what Phil said about Sony using their 30% cut of Microsoft games to take games away from the Xbox ecosystem. We know Sony has been trying to moneyhat as recent as Wukong and Crimson Desert (Pearl Abyss thankfully said no). As for the thought experiment, while I agree more games for everyone is a broadly good thing, it's oftentimes a "rule for thee, not for me". Because Xbox is giving away games right now for nothing in return, losing a key Selling Proposition. Now, to play devil's advocate, PS is getting better on that Reciprocity side (At the very least they won't stop developers from acquiring games and porting - see Predator and obviously Death Stranding). But right now it feels like the core Xbox consumer is the one "losing" here. As for their broader ecosystem strategy, multiple entry points is a strong potential differentiator. But I feel they are going heavy on this message before their offering is refined enough to genuinely work within the space. Cloud is still missing purchasable games (soon to be rectified supposedly), the mobile store is delayed, the PC store is improving but still suffering from adoption and technical issues. Which leaves the Console as the core experience that pivoting away from at this precarious time risks the entire foundation of this ecosystem strategy. And porting games to competing platform risks people even adopting into your ecosystem in the first place.

@XboxEra I haven't taken it personally and it's just not this piece that has turned me off Xbox era. This is not the first time this sentiment has been shared on this channel, either by yourself or Jesse. It's the whole argument "why wouldn't you want more people to play games?" Basically implying that if you don't agree with Microsoft's strategy you are some sort of petulant child. I have owned an Xbox console since the original one and have had it as my preferred place to play and always advocated for it. Microsoft has a history of mismanaging its hardware and then shutting it down. Why do you think this will be any different? Microsoft says that you don't need an Xbox. Why would anyone buy one? Could you recommend anyone buy one? Why would developers create an xbox version of their game? They are already not prioritising the console and even skipping it all together.

@@XboxEra Maybe they need to look at their development process? Reduce costs and streamline the process. We are at a point where if a developer makes one bad game they get shut down.
