Xbox 360 was peak of gaming just that generation period including ps3 and wii. We got two elder scrolls, two fallout games, 4 halo games, all 3 mass effect, all 3 bioshock, 3 uncharted, 3 gears of war the list goes on and on all in one generation.

I'm smelling Flavors and Tasting Colors again. I bought a Vita and it flopped, I got a Wii U and it bombed, and bought into the Xbox series X hype and again, I got boned again . Waiting for a stop and dissist letter to stop buying consoles so they don't fail. I enjoy all the consoles I stated and play them often. Have 40 Vita games, 60 Wii U games including the HD Zelda titles and 500 Xbox games so I'm invested deep . No turning back anytime soon.lol

Xbox has been defined almost since its launch as a service focused product due to Xbox Live. Easy online connectivity and later basic social features like party chat were the defining characteristics of the platform. Once their competitor got a handle on running a similar service their killer app disappeared. That process occurred late in the lifecycle of the PS3/360 and Sony took advantage of it with the PS4. The shift to digital libraries allowed Sony to lock players into their ecosystem. After that Microsoft had little choice but to pivot a new model once again centered on a service with Game Pass. They have largely failed in that strategy while their main competitor in the PC gaming market seized a market opening with the Steam Deck.

Phil Spencer and his minions turned the Xbox into a toothless shark, a completely unattractive product. He treated Halo like a stray dog. He tried to turn Gears of War into Gears Girls. He let Forza become completely worn out. And worst of all, he didn't bring anything new to the system that was worthwhile. I would have preferred the Xbox to die a thousand times over than to see everything that Phil, the minions and Satya did to the brand. Xbox is not PC(Windows). Xbox is not Cloud. Xbox is not PS or Nintendo. Xbox is not a service. That's the reality, and Phil cant change the reallity, Satya can't change reallity, and that's why they lost.

I think Microsoft and XBox want to focus on game pass they want games as a service a system where you can no longer own your games. They have made this huge investment into buying so many game studios and paid developers millions to put games on game pass to sweeten the pie for gamers. At this point I would bet Xbox will move completely to a publisher provider business. I don't think they will make another consol.

Exclusives are an artifact of a time when the consoles were actually radically different hardware from each other and each had to be specifically designed around; games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Donkey Kong Country were showcases built around what each console could do uniquely that the others couldn't, and even when third-party companies put the same game on multiple platforms, the different versions would be flavored by the hardware each ran on. Now, that last bastion of true exclusivity, Nintendo, is the only one doing anything different with their hardware...coincidence? I think NOT!

My first gaming pc was a 486. I lived through games going on the pc side from ega, to vga, to super vga graphics. I lived through the era of experimental gameplay experiments before gameplay and game menus were standardized. I also got to watch the same growth on the console side of gaming. Right around 2008 it was obvious that the industry was taking a politics first approach. Since then games have gotten boring triple a and indie games. It’s simply due to standardization, reduction of overall quality work, and abandoning core audiences. Heck I’ll give a quick example of how appealing to their core audience could have saved, and made the Star Wars sequel trilogy succeed and still be generation massive amounts of money. Literally just put hot women in it. If the actress cast as rei had a big fake chest so large she couldn’t hold a light saber with two hands, they would be some of the most purchased and streamed films, and people would be talking about it constantly still.

Nintendo demonstrates that string first party exclusives move consoles. And a lot of them. I'd actually argue that one of the reasons why Xbox as a platform is failing is *explicitly* because Xbox is directly competing with PC (Microsoft isn't going to release a game that can't play on Windows). The margins are infinitely better if they don't have to shackle themselves to the millstone that is console development, and console sales. The sale of consoles is usually a net negative fir the first 24 months or so, until costs for manufacturing come down. Which means you need to sell games to cover the loss, which works, but not as well as actually just selling software. Hell, even Sony has realized that they need to start breaking exclusivity for their consoles, because they need a larger playerbase.

4:53 that`s not true, my msi gaming notebook with i7 7700HQ, Geforce 1070 and 32 gigs of RAM lasted 5 Years and delivered strongly all the time. I even played through Cyberpunk 2077 (mid/high settings) on release date with under 10% of all those bugs were reported. So.... that`s not true, Oh Great Magician Master! 😃

It sounds like a lot of studios have churned out some duds. Old games and TV siphon off some money and maybe create a sense of uncertainty. I've seen a lot of discussions about games lacking fun. With the various remasters (tomb raider, diablo, doom III, age of empires), I had wondered if studios were examining their back catalogs to try and unearth what they need their new games to be. I got the sense that prior to the modern doom games, ID had to do a remaster of Doom 3 to remember how to make a game. They had the aborted Doom that was trying to be Call of Duty. Making the best games is like disney having a whiteboard with the text 'make good tv' written on it. The question is 'how do we do that?'. There would be a lot of studio that would spend 100 million dollars to make a game that was less fun that jazz jackrabbit.

I started my console experience with Xbox 360. Now? I fully expect that Xbox series X will be my last Xbox. I totally understand Microsoft decisions. They make perfect sense from business side of things, but at the same time, they basically lost their identity as a brand. And I don't mean that in console war sense. There is just no excitement in Xbox. They are just... there... with meh 7-8/10 games on every console & pc. They are just another publisher. And as other publishers they go deeper and deeper into anti-consumer practices. Thing is, even with that they are just meh... Not the worst, not the best.

For me I will tell you what xbox was, what it is and how it happened, in my opinion. It was an answer to PS1 as Sega Dreamcast was not cutting it. It was Gates thinking he was on to the next big thing and he was right. Gaming is a mega billion dollar hobby. Gates had microsoft and the internet on his side but exactly with how he lucked into microsoft in the 70s, he really was not the brighest bulb in the room. Gates was in the right place at the right time and shady enough to toss a few people under the bus to profit off their hard work. Good on him. It worked and we have microsoft telling us to activate all the damn time and performance breaking updates constantly while we try to get all that shit off our pc so we can enjoy non microsoft things. With Halo and Gears there was something happening to forgive the 360 ring of death. It looked like xbox actually cared about gamers and gaming only, he didnt. What is has ended up being is a venture microsoft wants gone. Gates was always looking to control a meta, a gaming hub and ip ownership seems to be his motivation. In the end, Gates wanted to be Steam. Control digital gaming. Gates made it very clear he would be okay if the console just died. It cost to much to make physical consoles and deal with physical game copies. All of these companies give you something amazing to get you to their brand then shit on you for it. Apple, Nvidia, Sony- ALL of them. We are now paying more for less on the back of business models like Xbox. Exclusive IPs were never going to hold people longer than it took them to get older, get jobs, getting a partner instead of a dirty sock. The players grew up. Gates has xbox pass- he doesnt give a monkey about the console. Only pass sucks. Jokes on the old gooner. Xbox is the pronoun in the room that made it's own identity up and no one wants to hear it anymore. We all want Halo and Gears back, oh hell and Earthworm Jim but made by gamers.

A great game, hmmm...somehow it seem hard to be realized by xbox team. What I mean after the xbox 360 generation, do the xbox team know that they have a great game. They seem failed to see potential of most games. Example Hi-Fi rush is a great game but does Xbox team know that? They release Redfall even it is a bad game. Was Scalebound really bad that it can't be released? Why not delayed it till it was acceptable state. Then why release Crackdown 3 if the state of it is unacceptable even after multiple delays...why not just cancel it...🤔...who makes these decision at xbox?

And you’ll have it for life. Because if you cancel, you have zero games. Don’t cave to this low hanging fruit people.
