XCOM: Enemy Within - Review

This November's a huge month in regards to gaming releases, but my wallet only cares about this expansion, and I am so excited it'll be coming out soon. ;P

A huge month? Not really. That crappy, overrated COD game doesn't count. THe biggest thing of this month is definitely the next-gen exclusive titles and the consoles.

It's a matter of opinion really, but I consider it to be pretty huge, not only in terms of the release of next-gen, but considering that this month sees the release of: CoD Ghosts, Battlefield 4, ACIV, R & C Into the Nexus, Batman Arkham Origins, Need for Speed Rivals, Forza 5, Sonic Lost World, Super Mario 3D World, Tearaway, Dead Rising 3, Killzone Shadow Fall, Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds... Love or hate them or don't care about em, but I think it's hard to deny that such titles make this November quite a jam-packed month for gaming, and this list didn't even include many downloadables or Steam/PSN indies.

Azyral Stark X-Rebirth comes out in 4 days. Even if it was the only game released this month it would still be one of the most important months in the year. At least for those with taste.

If i don't have the previous patches and DLC's, can i still play the game on PC? or do i need the get all the DLC and patches before i install Enemy Within?

This game had great potentials to be 9 or even 10 out of 10 but due to its lack of content and uncountable bugs and glitches it makes you hate yourself for even buying it. Don't believe me? then try it for yourself but remember that I TOLD YOU SO.

don't know anything about consoles but PC version is buggy as hell, for example: Can't open the doors when standing next to it or it will takes more than a minute to do so. Miss on 100% chance to hit. Kinetic strike (punch) fail. Transparency of some higher platform wont allow players to access to certain places. Alien teleporting around map..... and so on. By the way I'm guessing you just heard about xcom enemy unknown and is so excited about the enemy within so let me tell you something, i used to play xcom since i was a kid on Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 and back then it was called UFO and let me tell you that in this reboot, even though i still enjoyed it, they took almost all elements of rpg and strategy out and created a extremely dumb down version. The story behind this new DLC is that simply they did not made enough money close to their expectation and they knew that a sequel won't make any either so they just created a DLC using all previous project content and jacked the price up hoping to cover most their losses.

ah ziba LOL You're such a crybaby. None of these problems exist with me (Pc version) and I'm willing to bet that most people on the pc aren't having these problems. They fixed most of the bugs from the original, and especially the alien teleportation bug. Unless you're playing the game on the commodore 64, you should have none of these problems. In addition, you pull a "no true scotsman" argument and make a half-assed story about the DLC. If the game was made exactly like that of the original, it would still have the accessibility of a NASA space shuttle. You're literally the only fan of the original xcom to be crying about the new one.

Would someone mind explaining to me how Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within integrate in terms of the On Demand Xbox versions? E.W is currently £15 while E.U is £17, so surely Within doesn't come with what is in Unknown right?

I believe that E.W is all that is in E.U. plus all the extra bundled in, I don't think you need the original E.U to play this...it should say so also on Xbox Live. there is about 600MB difference on X Live between the EU & EW so I'd say its standalone... I also believe this is the category of "games on demand" and not "game add on"...so I'd say its standalone...:)

I don't have Enemy Unknown so can I just get Enemy Within and get the same core experience and the same amount of gameplay time that I would get with Enemy Unknown?

you can get it on the console and it comes with the core game, otherwise if it's on the PC... it's just an expansion.

Also my thoughts on the game: $40 dollars for this little content is incredibly steep. I feel that the game whilst had some significant changes, was not worth $40. Also Mecs are incredibly strong. There came a point where i just removed all my troops and created a mec team with just 1 augmented sniper (just for some ranged shots and psi abilities). Rating the game based on what it added, I'd says 6/10 just because of the very little amount of content added and the overall effect of the content on the story.

CinCityVet89 I enjoyed mass effect. But i assume you like sandbox type games. In terms of open world sci-fi games i can't recommend many. It's very rare that sci-fi genres take on an open world approach. Maybe x-rebirth... but you can't steal a ship.

It doesn't seem like it. I just started playing it, it feels like it's set in an alternate dimension altogether where the aliens started attacking but you have all these new things now... I might have to wait till I finish before I can say for sure, but it is extremely unevenly difficult at the beginning of the game, still trying to get through that.

It's not a lot different, but you add two story missions that weren't in Unknown. I can give spoilers if you want, but if not I'll settle to say, XCOM should make a promotional shirt saying I Survived Newfoundland. You'll understand after you do that mission.

And you think CoD does better things than other games? No, not at all. CoD has one of the worst graphics every year. The gameplay is the same and monotonous. The story is cliched and uninspired and retarded. If you think the Batman games are uninspired, then CoD is below the word "uninspired".
