Thank you, Happy! The ruminations are actually exactly what I wanted. I also don't know about the 2-minute implications, I'm glad we can hang onto them since they're ranged abilities and we won't have to worry about downtime quite as much while we're doing mechanics. Granted, experienced monk players have already figured out ways of minimizing downtime as it is, but it's really nice to have more flexibility away from the boss without losing DPS. Again, it might still be a loss if they're used outside 2-minute windows, but they're exactly what I've been wanting for the job for a long time and they fit the bill perfectly for me regardless. I'll try and be out there with you guys next time! Thanks again for the coverage.

DRGs should be glad that it's left mostly the same. The good should stay the same. Constant changes are not always a good thing.

The new dotted lines for the fury stacks should make the job much easier to play, since you won’t be needing to check the Raptor/Demolish durations

Funny enough I think the whole change gives more damage than twin snakes did. I think it's 100 potency higher for each? So instead of a 10 or 15% buff it's a lot higher for the buffed up skills. Which math wise should end up being 30% higher DPS while making your management be about the animal buffs instead of keeping the Dot and damage increase buff? At least it seems, not 100%

riddle of wind + wind's reply I see already looking identical to Bunshin and Phantom Kamatachi. Currently ninja uses Bunshin on cooldown and gets the Phantom Kamatachi ready buff that lasts for 45 seconds, then they hold the use of Phantom Kamatachi until their next trick attack window for the added potency. but man the new main rotation.... feel like it's going to be a LOT of work to unlearn the same base rotation that monk has been using for 11 years now, especially since it's not even new skills. I'm pretty trained to always use twin snakes after dragon kick and then only watch the demolish timer to know if I'm using snap punch or not, so I see a lot of us monks messing that up a lot at least for a little while.

The difference is that Wind's Reply duration is only 15s, so most likely can't hold it for burst window if RoW is used on cooldown.

I’ve already got an opener in mind that actually makes use of the Formless Fist from Fire’s reply and fits Wind’s Reply and both Blitzes under Brotherhood and RoF(or for those like me who cannot double weave on Monk because bad hardware, a blitz panda outside Brotherhood and inside RoF) Granted the theory crafting used 0 skill speed, so maybe with some, even the single weave opener could catch the last blitz in Brotherhood If you’re familiar with the Lunar Solar opener, I used that as a framework. DK -> tincture, TwS -> Forbidden Chakra, Demolish -> brotherhood, Bootshine -> RoF, Fire’s Reply-> RoW, DK -> PB, Boot, DK, Boot, Elixir Field-> PB, DK, TrS, SP, Wind’s Reply, Rising Phoenix. If you are able to double weave with monk, unlike me, you would leave the weave spot after Demolish open and weave both RoF and Brotherhood after the Bootshine with RoF being first to allow time for it to become Fire’s Reply Any weave slot not taken up by something else could be Forbidden Chakra

Isn’t the new Wind’s reply essentially Phantom Kamaitachi for MNK? So we still use it off CD and in burst whenever available

that's exactly what it looks like, but with the potential ability to be a ranged DPS skill if needed. Math nerds will surely figure out if it's more of a DPS gain to hold it always for buff windows and meditate if you have to disengage, or if it should be used if you're forced to disconnect from a boss.

Predicted opener: Dragon Kick -> Tincture Twin snakes -> Forbidden Chakra Demolish -> Brotherhood Bootshine -> RoF Fire’s Reply -> RoW Dragon Kick -> PB Boot -> Kick -> Boot Elixir Burst-> PB Dragon Kick -> True strike -> Snap Punch Rising Phoenix/Wind’s Reply The opposite of the previous GCD It remains to be seen if Wind’s Reply will be equal strength to the blitzes. With some skill speed, this opener should allow the last GCD to sneak in with less than 1 second until Brotherhood falls off, and any weave after RoW can be Forbidden Chakra. It may also be damage positive to add Six Sided star after Brotherhood falls off to snapshot it under RoF, but I don’t know for sure

I notice that you don't even need to look at the fury gauge, because the correct button you should push just lights up, even during perfect balance. If you have no couerl orbs then demolish lights up in couerl form, if you do have couerl orbs, snap punch (pouncing couerl) lights up instead. So the job is basically just follow the glowing button now.

I actually think the 2 minute burst is going to feel really comfortable doing even with WInd's and Fire's Reply also acting as GCD because lets assume you're going to continue with 1.94 monk you need to fit in at least the 8 GCDs between your double PB and then the two replys thats 15.52 of your 20 second buffs and lets push it to 9 GCDs when using the first formless fist to say refill one of the beast chakras if needed before the second PB that's still 17.46 seconds and assuming they keep Six Sided Star potency the same with no longer having to keep up the buff and dot timer I think its actually worth using as a finisher during the burst window because with just 1 chakra expenditure on it, it'll do more potency than the two GCDs you'll miss out on doing

It'd be redundant but making it activate all your beast fury stacks woulda been neat and actually match the name for once. But yeah anatman in endwalker only saves you one or two gcd's from maintaining buff and form, because form shift just did its job better sadly.

o7 Twin Snakes buff and Demolish Dot, it's been a good run That said, won't miss Anatman (as much as I liked the Anatman Mnk in 5.0) lol. Looks as expected, 2 extra gcds in the window and maybe holding Wind's Reply for buffs like Nin's Phantom Kamaitachi would make the bursts a bit more interesting imo. (just looked at tooltips, you can't hold it more than 15s :() GCD upgrades are nice, tho I'll miss Bootshine (and will prob look to forbidden ways to restore the better vfx with giant spectral fists). Found it funny how the animation for Elixir Burst looks almost like Perfect Balance tho, even if the more optimal route is to have an Opo gcd between the PBs, unless the potencies have changed. Also we get a pure AoE heal on Earth's Reply? Goddamn, we get to be more helpful now, unless Mantra is removed, idk But yep, still maining my beloved Melee dps. Damn, I had to sit down for a minute to figure out what the opener would look like, but after a bit of brainstorming, it'd be: Formless -> Thunder -> Twin -> PoT -> Demo -> FC -> DK -> PB -> Boot -> RoW -> DK -> RoF -> Boot -> BH -> Elixir -> DK -> FR -> Boot -> WR -> PB -> True -> Snap -> DK -> PR -> Boot. Freakin' brainbender of a rotation, but it manages to fit in the three Bootshines (or Rising Opos) as well as the two new moves and everything else. Can't wait to play, looks fun af. Also, wow. That AoE heal made MNK stocks go way up, lmao!

Sorta agree you're overthinking it. Plus it'd be better to pop perfect balance sooner now and pop rof before the first blitz so you can dump all your strongest gcd attacks from row and rof comfortably, and maybe end it with an effectively 2k potency sss maybe. Really, just wait for the expac to come out and play it by ear.

I'll have to wait and see for myself how monk plays now. I do think the current version of monk is the best version we had so far. But there is still faults in it. I hope this will be even better.

One of the DPS I by far loved the most in Shadowbringers, that I felt Endwalker not only entirely missed the mark on, but made me refuse to play it post getting a quick 10 levels in roulettes, is finally becoming not only great again, but arguably better than its ever been by a mile. All these changes and additions both LOOK aesthetically beautiful, while also vastly refreshing&improving the overall sense of flow, speed, and raw impact of the class, matching its identity perfectly. Has to be my favorite class change to the pre-existing 19, bar none. Absolutely cannot wait to try it out for myself!

To each their own, but whenever I saw the old Elixir Field, I thought, "that would do so much more damage if you pointed it at the enemy instead of the ground... And it would be ranged." So in my mind, they needed to either change Elixir Field, or give MNK a Hadouken.

I think EF looked good for it’s time when it used to be an oGCD. As a GCD the longer animation visibility makes the attack look a bit more flat. I still like jumping into the air animation better, but the actual blast from EB I think is still slightly more visually appealing

Definitely been feeling this playing the current iteration of monk. We went from a big kamehameha like attack to what looks like a little bubble popping. It's not satisfying to use as a Blitz in comparison to Rising Phoenix. I was hoping they would go for more of a Gale Cut blitz which EB could still do if they expanded the visual range and flash on. It just needs a little more oomph I feel.

As a monk Stan since 2.x, I’m genuinely unsure how I feel about these changes. On the one hand I like the changes to the riddles. On the other hand it sounds like leaden fist is gone unless I misunderstood and bootshine with leaden fist was awesome. I also liked the twin snakes buff and demolish dot. I’ll be sad to see them go. I’ll have to play it to see how i feel about it but I’m somewhat torn.

Dragon Kick still buffs Bootshine (or Rising Opo-Opo, the new bootshine.) That's the Fury gauge bonus thing for opo stance.

It's functionally exactly the same: you lead with DK, which empowers Rising Opo-opo (new Bootshine), then DK again

Mäh, the new mechanic looks to be more compolex. I liked the monk at the end of shb, because i was able to shut down my brain, while i punched everything before me. And was able to use the combos in more or less 2 lines. The EW monk maked it a little harder. But the new version, doesnt look anymore like, that you allways go between stance 1 top 3. But switch between 1,2,3,1,3,2,3,2 and so one. That make him complex (at last in the first moment)^^.

@@hasseo195 just watch the video, the first and 3rd bars have his main gcd’s which are buttons 1-3 on both bars. Right now both of the next forms would light up after you press one of them, but in Dawn trail only the one that you’re supposed to use is going to light up (generator or spender)

Most of this looks cool. However, I have a small gripe with monk. I wish they'd swap the animations for 6 sided star and dragon kick. The downtime on SSS would give the dragon kick animation time to play out. It always looks so silly to be upside-down half way through the dragon kick breakdance, and then snap back to the start of the next animation for the next skill. This is the kind of thing that's probably not important to most people, but unfortunately it annoys me. At least it looks like we don't hit dragon kick as often anymore?

Always thought the animal stances should have been given a job HUD. Is this the first job to have THREE different HUDs?! And they're all circles... That's a lot of circles... I'd rather they have repurposed Anatman and removed Six-sided Star, than repurposed Six-sided Star and repurposed Anatman. I always WANTED Anatman to be good, and have always been perplexed by the insistence on Six-sided Star. Leaping Opo's icon doesn't even look like it belongs in the same game, let alone this job.

I'm sure plenty of us wanted an excuse to use anatman. But there's nothing that could be added to it that isn't just a bandaid for something else. Six-Sided star's always been an okay skill, the disconnect from using meditation when disengaging was always a sour spot for using it but now it makes a bit more sense.

Its original intent was to maintain buffs during downtime. It lost its purpose as the job lost a lot of its buffs in every rework.

back when dropping greased lightning meant you lost over 40% of your damage, Anatman was meant to maintain that during downtimes. But the thing is they changed greased lightning into a passive skill very shortly after adding Anatman

I don't play Monk very much because I found keeping its buff and dot up all the time kind of hard. Removing them and all the positionals from before is not going to get me to play the job more and I have serious doubts it's going to convert many others either All it really does is screw over the people who already loved the job because of that difficulty. And yes, I am mostly just channeling my anger over SMN's simplification from last expansion.

honestly the job lost me back in shadowbringers when they changed greased lightning to a passive.... the job just feels like it lacks the sense of urgency it used to have. summoner seems to have had a similar issue, so I feel you. they change a core aspect of a job that made you love it and then you feel a bit lost as to what you can play that hits that same feeling

Idk, I've been playing it since RR it really gets easier the longer you play. My friend taught me how to play Monk and explained very well how and why my rotations should work. When he showed me Beast Chakra it was amazing because it opened up a whole new world of combos I can pull off. I'm telling you guys if you thoroughly study Monk it's one of the most satisfying and a harder class to master.

You just described my experience with the class. I absolutely loved storm blood monk because of its fast pace and complexity. Fast forward to now and there’s no positionals, basically no ogcd, and the buttons light up in the order you press them. No other class has replaced monk for me and I no longer play the game since it’s just so boring now

coming from the perspective of a monk player and main since 2.x this job isn't monk. Everything that made me love the job and made it fun for me is gone. This job might be fun too, but I already see a learning stumble trying to unlearn the 11-year base rotation, but it's identity as a buff maintaining job with positionals is gone. I won't be upset if others enjoy this new job, but it's already not the job I loved, and this just takes it further away from what it was.

I'm really surprised nobody could make a plugin that only showed combo ants on Dragon kick when LF wasn't active, Twin snakes when DF had 6 or less seconds left, and same for Demolish. that would've solved like half the issue with Monk's GCD combo.

I don't care much for the claw animation. While the true strike and snap punch still feel like martial arts, the bootshine replacement feels too special effects reliant. While it is indeed called opo opo stance, it could've been an interesting flurry of punches or kicks, rather than a strange scratch.

Ima just out and say it. People who don't like the changes (and I mean viscerally despise to the point of saying "ima kms") are usually severely overreacting. If you're good enough that you can almost autopilot monk and you refer to timer remaining durations to determine what attack to use next, these changes WILL. NOT. AFFECT. YOU. You just don't have to swear to the optimal drift argument anymore and that's it. There's only two motives you could be getting out of being mad about them removing the timers. One is enjoying the thrill and maintaining old job identity. The other motive is despising the idea of others getting close to your level of success with less effort; which is a weirdly gatekeepy motive to have. The skill floor doesn't exist for you once you're so good at it, no reason to complain about it. If you're already playing the job optimally in endwalker, you're going to play it optimally in dawntrail. Be proud of yourself that you mastered maintaining timers while they were a thing and don't use it as an excuse to gatekeep it from others. I've been called hard slurs for telling people they're overreacting and being told I have no idea what I'm talking about when I'm literally the monk trainer and passionate theory crafter of my home world novice network lmfao. You don't get the nickname "the monk guy" for a world server for nothing. And I get it. Maintaining the timers can be fun, I also really sort of miss the old positional requirements. And the sheer amount of ogcd's I had to use in combat. But I focus on the positives in this conversation when it comes to job design. With them making chakra overcap, them expanding the freedom of actions even further, and so on. They can actually allow Monks to get really high skillspeed now (though no dot to benefit from the stat), and start attacking really fast. Let's pray that monk can chunk their gcd down really hard and we'll see how strong monk gets now that the limiters are off. Can you imagine monks with gcd's below 1.80? how about 1.60? it sounds unlikely but still really cool. I'd love to see how extreme we can take this. And all we have to do is wait til release.

Honestly, as someone who liked monk thematically since ARR, these changes to animations and vfx, on top of them removing the strict timers from demolish/twin snakes makes me want to play it even more. I was never good enough to figure it out on my own before, but now it seems to signpost what ability to use next much better than it ever did previously.

And I'm glad my favorite job's going to get more attention. The changes only remove the pressure of the timers, but the pattern of attacks do not change much. I'll be in my corner of behemoth practicing and theory crafting my rotations for the fun of it. And I have no problems giving tips and pointers to those that ask. Honestly the only thing I don't like about these changes is apparently at lvl 92 the skills for bootshine, true strike, and snap punch get overrided entirely, instead of being transformed versions of them lmao. But I can live with that because there aint no way we're using an disempowered version of them anyway. However I find that to be a perfectly fine trade-off because I've been begging for monk to get more off-the-wall vfx and animations to make their impact feel more exact. Cause though they attack strong and fast, they feel weak in comparison to other jobs that really want to drive the steel in as hard as they can. Now monk's got more oomph and that's all I could ever want. I can respect not returning positionals, We kept spamming riddle of earth and true north to bypass them in SHB anyway.

On elitist crybabies that dont feel special anymore will cry about the changes. Considering how mechanica are now in dawntrail i personality dont have the time nor patience to be checking on a dot and a buff every 30 secs. I rather do mech complete savage/extreme them go touch grass like a normal person lmao.

@@anthonydelfino6171 Monk’s “core identity” is not buff maintenance you weirdo. It’s changing forms by using different attacks, and recently they added building up to big beast chakra attacks. That’s all still there. In fact if you actually played monk you’d know that the only buff we maintain is Disciplined Fist, which is essentially a passive because we use twin snakes every other combo without exception. Now we use it every 3rd combo without exception. Why? To buff ourselves. How the Fck is that a massive change? You must be high

RIP the fun of MNK optimization. Ruined the fun of the class to me particularly having it being a very stiff and static rotation for their comboing now. At least you still can do the double solar/lunar to line up for fights that might want to hold blitz, though still the changes kill my interest in the job. At least its far more newbie friendly in a way even though I wish they would of kept the skill ceiling rather then dropping it down so much.

This is bad. Its reworked into one rules all rotation, theres no variation depending on mob/encounter or what you are doing anymore. And monk was the only class that had variatiable rotation. And anatman was flair, keep that shit in. Also, the 3 stacked earth was way more flair and thematically fit, also made sense with six sides star and the lack of ranged attack. Im pissed that their dev team have no clue what they are doing.
