2:01:47 I love how this line from Reyn is shown, and right after, Shulk fails to save Otharon on his own, and Reyn was actually the one to save Otharon. I think this was like the only time someone else used Shulk’s vision to save someone.

I absolutely LOVE it when a villain is driven by a truly unassailable fact. Egil's methods are beyond barbaric, but he's right about Zanza. Peace will not exist as long as the god of the Bionis still lives. Egil was doing the right thing the wrong way.

6:20:32 Literally broke me, he's treating her the same as ever while she's almost suicidal about being turned into something barely human anymore. The sad look on his face when she's forcing herself to be cheery "I never have to eat, I never get hungry" was like the most emotional thing in the game for me.
@Soval452 жыл бұрын
You know, I never initially saw her as suicidal but rewatching it, I can def see when you’re coming from. I saw it personally as a “I look like a monster” type deal but with everything she’s been through, her original death, being trapped as simply a voice in her own head while her body acts, the body dysmorphia added on definitely made her mental state that much worse I’m sure. Man, I really do love Fiora, she’s such a toughie 😭
@eepysneepy Жыл бұрын
the look of quiet horror on shulk’s face when she reveals she doesn’t have to eat anymore really cements that she’s been turned into something inhuman…. And then she immediately proceeds to ask shulk to think of his fiora as dead and to leave her behind on mechonis (presumably where she would die soon with no intervention)… I love these two so much
@tohdohsibir Жыл бұрын
Well said everyone. I started playing XCDE this year, never touched a Xenoblade game before and went into this totally blind. This little moment (among many others) marked the point Fiora became my favorite character and I shipped Shulk x Fiora. I know the fandom loves to say "poor Melia" and yes, she's been through a lot and I give Melia massive respect to how she rises to the occasion with maturity and grace, but I think Fiora got put through a lot too. I mean her body and mind get hijacked and altered outside her control. That's horrifying and sad. DE adds nuances to facial expressions with the already great voice acting that do such a good job getting a player like me invested in the story and characters. Fiora trying to keep her spirits up + Shulk's horror/sympathy at the fact she's been changed beyond human has me in shambles. Her battle dialogue where she encourages herself and her teammates just made a cynic like me admire her even more. People don't give Fiora and her persevering spirit enough credit. Melia and Fiora are both great and amazing in their own ways. And they're good friends besides. No need to pit them against each other and say one's better than the other. (And that concludes my XC TED talk and thoughts on the Melia vs Fiora nonsense)

Here are the timestamps for every piece of music in the cutscenes. Note that this list uses the officially localised titles for the music tracks. No timestamp (e.g. for 49:16) means the music is the same as the previous track that played. The music in some of the cutscenes (e.g. the Bionis Leg shot at 1:18:45) is not as it plays in-game, due to some error unknown to me; in many cases, the music is missing from the cutscene entirely. A few interesting things to note: In the very opening cutscene, the Mechonis is mainly using a defensive approach while the Bionis is using an offensive approach. Mumkhar's death at 5:52:08 mirrors the way he "killed" Fiora at 52:08, they are also almost exactly 5 hours apart. Huge foreshadowing at both 58:27, 2:31:35 and 4:12:08 - 4:13:12, and these events that they foreshadow both take place very late in the game. This is one I saw on Twitter and more likely than not is just a giant stretch, but Reyn pressing the button at 3:58:28 could potentially foreshadow Klaus recreating the universe at 10:14:40 due to a big button being pressed in front of Alvis, leading to something bad. That may just be a stretch though. One last thing to note is how at 10:01:20, Zanza can't see any further because he can't see past his own defeat. Does anyone else have anything interesting they'd like to share?

[Spoilers, and a lot of them, and also a long-ass comment] I've commented on this game a million times to my friends, but I really feel the need to say it: I think the scene at 5:48:49 with Mumkhar, Dunban, and Shulk is probably the best example of how the characters have developed from the initial take-off of the story. At the beginning, Shulk was entirely caught up in his anger towards the Mechon as a whole, he hadn't even considered they might be their own kind of people with their own reasons. All he wanted to do was kill them all, for what they did to his best friend. Dunban was filled with grief from having been so badly wounded that he couldn't wield the weapon that could've saved his sister's life. (We know why the Monado wouldn't work later down the line, but no one knew that for sure in the moment). And both of them supposedly had the tools to prevent such a tragedy. If only Dunban could've fought with the Monado. If only Shulk hadn't been so paralyzed and dazed to warn Fiora of his vision. We've had sparse encounters with Metal Face afterwards, almost every time he taunted Shulk for his failed efforts to save his friend. Sending Shulk further and further into rage, and Dunban into grief. Until it boils to a point of desperation where Shulk decides to see a vision through where it would guide him to Prison Island. To fulfill such a vision and unleash the Monado, that he might strike down the Faced Mechon. He did it all in desperation for revenge. And Dunban believed that a righteous path, going along with him after learning to fight with his left hand. Even though the entire tone of the scene paints it as wrong, the unshackled Monado feels right to Shulk and Dunban. It's their tool for revenge. But we as the audience can FEEL that something is off. This is bad. But that doesn't matter. This is out of our hands. It's now Shulk's ultimate weapon for revenge and carnage, against the beings who killed his people and are still hunting them down for reasons he cannot be bothered to think of. The silver-faced Mechon, however, stood between Shulk and the other Mechon, pleading for them all to stop fighting. You can actually see Dunban wince at the fact that the Mechon didn't immediately start fighting. Shulk, blinded by rage, continues his assault. Until he's cut apart the Mechon that wanted peace, and saw a friend's face inside. He stopped fighting immediately. He realized the reason he'd come this far, for vengeance, was in vain. Fiora was not dead. She was right there, "fighting" alongside the enemy. He didn't have to do this. He didn't have to fight. He's changed after this. He has a weapon capable of wiping out the Mechon. He's got the proper motivations if he chooses to believe it. But instead, Shulk remembers the face of a friend in that mech. And he starts asking the questions that the other side might have the answers to: why are we still fighting? Upon seeing "Fiora" again, they're caught up in the joy of seeing their friend. But despair takes over again when Fiora, like before, doesn't recognize them. It's especially painful for both ends. "Fiora" knows these people are important. You can actually see the camera shaking when Shulk points and says, "That's Dunban over there!" Like the girl's body is trying to remember, trying to say something to her brother. Before she begin to explain anything, she's attacked by Metal Face. And that anger towards the Mechon reignites. The same Mechon that ripped Fiora away in the first place, made everyone believe she was dead, and the catalyst for this whole adventure. They had found her, and now she was going to be ripped away again. What I like especially about this scene is when Metal Face says Shulk needs to relinquish the Monado to let Fiora live. And Shulk doesn't even hesitate to give it up. He agrees on the terms that his friend will be safe, and he drops it in the snow. Not a moment of thought, just utter care for his friend, the person he loves, even if she can't remember who he is. And of course, we see Mumkhar jump out of the Mechon, as Dunban suspected. Mumkhar reveals his jealousy towards Dunban, and now Shulk, for being wielders of the Monado. A weapon he's vied for, even been willing to deceive his friends and betray them, just to get a chance of snagging it for himself. The prideful act of stepping out of his Mechon is only met with punishment by the whole party, and Dunban is finally able to let out some pent up grief over failing to save his sister. Alas, justice is ripped away from the heroes when Egil arrives, and Fiora is swept away, too. Leaving everyone to stare after her departing visage and continue their pursuit. Leaving only more questions to ask: why would there be Homs inside of the Mechon that want to kill them? At last, at Gallahad Fortress, everyone is able to ask these questions. Only to recieve the most painful of answers: Mumkhar only wanted to kill other Homs just because he could. He loved the feeling of power over them, and drank plenty of it to grow arrogant in a body he didn't think could die. Of course, with the Monado unshackled and able to kill Homs, his Mechon is not impervious to its blade. And soon, he is at the mercy of the weapon he desperately wanted to wield. As it should be, Dunban is finally ready to deliver justice. Wielding his katana in the newfound fashion, after losing his right arm to the Monado, a catalyst of Mumkhar's betrayal. He goes to deal the killing blow. To kill the Homs inside the dreaded machine. But he is stopped by the boy who screamed for murder not so long ago, now with a mixed view of what could be right or wrong. No longer driven by revenge, but by love and desperation, Shulk puts himself between Dunban's deadly katana and the man who had killed his friend. I'm almost certain that if it wasn't the Monado that Shulk was wielding, he wouldn't have been able to deflect Dunban's blade. He would've been cut down with Mumkhar for even attempting to defy Dunban's vengeance. And Shulk must've known that. But instead of giving into that anger he felt towards Mumkhar, he actually defends him. Not because Mumkhar was innocent, or his actions just. But he's Homs. He's from Bionis, as they all are. And not so long ago, they all had the same goal. Despite the atrocities of his actions, he is still alive. He can still make a different decision, give them the answers they need to stop the war between Bionis and Mechonis. This is the point where Shulk has realized that maybe the people of Bionis are _not_ so innocent as he may have believed. Maybe the horrible act of the Mechon to be attacking his home and world was justified in someone else's eyes. There's more to this, and he'll be damned if he wastes another chance to save someone's life in this timeless battle. Dunban eventually gives in, despite the rage he feels, relenting that Shulk is right. Mumkhar is not innocent, nor does he need to be forgiven. But he is a Homs. And if they were to give Fiora the same doubt, they should at least give Mumkhar a mercy. Mumkhar, of course in his dickish behavior, gives up this chance at peace and attacks his people. In nothing but rage and hatred towards the Monado's Chosen and the War Hero of Colony 9. Dunban is swift to punish him for this choice, but does not continue to fight. He gives up on fighting Mumkhar, proudly claiming that he is not worth the effort. Pushed to an edge, Mumkhar gives on final push to make his point clear: he has no care left in him for the Homs, or for his friend. As he prepares to attack, Shulk is struck with a vision of Mumkhar's end: one of the pronged pillars higher up the fortress will plummet and strike him in the chest. At first he is dazed by this vision when he comes out of it. You can see it in the way he shifts his eyes. But unlike before, *unlike with Fiora,* Shulk acts immediately. He rips his head away from what he saw and screams at Mumkhar to stop. He can do nothing else to prevent the tragedy besides plead. But Mumkhar only screams for blood as he charges forward and shoots at Dunban and Shulk. Shulk shoves Dunban aside, saving them from the projectile. But it strikes the wall behind them, rattling the pronged pillar from its unsteady spot and sends it plummeting down to Mumkhar's uncaring demise. Not only would he have died from such a wound, but the platform then crumbles and plummets to the endless ocean far below the Mechonis. Shulk and Dunban can only stare down at the sight, both relenting how they could not save the fool's life. And to note, Mumkhar had betrayed Shulk and Dunban on many occasions. And this final betrayal was immediately after their display of peace and mercy. If this were the same Shulk and Dunban from the beginning, fueled by nothing but hatred and revenge on account of what was done to their friend and sister respectively, they might've just let him die his own pitiful death. Shulk saw the vision of him dying. He didn't know what would've caused it. He just knew Mumkhar was fated to die if nothing was done. He could've let it happened. But Shulk _didn't._ He _tried_ to warn Mumkhar to stop. It was purely Mumkhar's own bloodlust that caused such a tragedy.
@maestro75343 жыл бұрын
An excellent analysis. Reading this made me wonder if Mumkhar in this scene represents a radical version of Shulk who could have become selfish, narrow-minded, ambitious and determined, and that Mumkhar's death symbolises Shulk's development as a selfless person who wants to know more about the conflict and is willing to offer peace to even those who have sinned.

RedWolfCorp Revamped No. His words there were not meant literally. You can see he stabbed right through Egil, so that wouldn’t make sense. What he was actually saying is “Your words didn’t cut deep enough.” Aka, your reasoning for fighting, for wanting to defend the Bionis...it didn’t persuade him. He still believes his way is right, and that all beings of the Bionis must die.
@thevoidmagician66534 жыл бұрын
@@studio_1 Well if that the case, then saying "you should've gone for the head" could've worked too. Shulk stabbed him near his heart and saying this quote could be him saying "you should went for a logical approach rather than emotional"

The plot twists definitely surprise the hell out of you especially when they reveal the presumed antagonist Egil’s true motives and show you who the truly evil figures are in the game.
