justin quintela TP’s hidden locations sometimes had different aesthetics: lava, iced over bunker with yet more random storage, actual cave caverns. The Wolf Holes weren’t anything to write home about, tho. Just a bunch of grass or stone or ice depending on where it’s found, and sometimes a hidden fishing hole when it’s not a mini gauntlet

Yeah the sword play looked, was amazing, and should have remained since then. Also refining the controls to a similar functionality would be nice. The combat controls for BOTW really threw me off.

The more I think of it, then more I want this: Game-spanning "politicking/questing" (with Zelda) with the various Tribes of Hyrule to rebuild Central Hyrule - player ability to "barter/bargain/mediate" between the races results in different quality/size/composition/richness of city quarters, etc. Example: Who do you have rebuild Lon Lon Ranch: Hylians, Zora, Goron, Rito, Sheikah, or Gerudo? 1-Hylians neither exceed nor suck at rebuilding & running the ranch - Average in every way, 2-Zora have no idea how to ride horses, but they are business savvy and will introduce specific mini-games to play on horseback, 3-Goron also have no idea how to ride horses, but they can sure tame those wild stallions for you (they terrify the horses), 4-Rito are the exact opposite of the Zora: they can ride of all things, but they need a lot of help/player attention figuring-out how to run the place , 5-Sheikah are very adept with horses but have absolutely no clue how to operate a ranch in the open, may have to fight them tooth-and-nail depending on player choices to keep them from "hiding the ranch away", 6-Gerudo are absolutely excellent at running the ranch (and can even give toss-backs to the little teaser of wearing the Gerudo mask to Talon or Nabooru), but no-one initially trusts them so they're the slowest/hardest to rebuild the Ranch with. --Now, combine that concept with the various little village & garrison remains around Central Hyrule where the player can decide how to divvy-up Central Hyrule between the peoples in both sections and sizes (which reflects on Hyrule Castle Town or vice-verse)...maybe even some light resource management (who gets certain resources first, what resources to give out, etc., which effects both rebuild speed and quality for those specific peoples), politicking when it comes to disputes (like discovering and then having to deal with ancient rivalries between the peoples like the Rito & the Zora, for instance), things like that. Other things I want to see / see return from past games: Zelda as a guide (or even playable) character Classic/Updated dungeons, explorable caves (if not a full-fledged "Underworld"), etc. Return of ("ruined") previous dungeons (Level 1, Eastern Palace, Snowpeak Ruins) Expanded Overworld Upgradable Items (like a "Legendary Bow" that starts weak but upgrades & is unbreakable) Customizable combinable Weapons (Two words: "Bomb Spear". Three Words: "Boomerang Electric Hammer") Magic (BotW kinda did this with the Champion abilities, but Bombos) Sword Skills (like in Adventure of Link, Minish Cap, SoulCalibur II, etc.) Greater variety in enemies Diving Quality Subquests. BotW subquests were meh as the NPCs were mostly one-and-done while the rewards were lame. Gimme higher durable weapons/shields, Heart/Stamina Pieces, Treasure Maps, Clues to dungeon locations/access - and make the NPCs memorable! More weird abilities like shield surfing & "pot-lid time" (like walk on water as in AoL)

@ChaoticHoly, wow, your post was packed with fantastic and original ideas! I love the idea of bringing politics in, and I would trust the Zelda team to do it in a a skilful way that preserves the Zelda balance and doesn’t overdo it! My main thought is that these things will all boil down to the same structural challenge about ordering: how closed do we make the world in order to allow freedom to progress items and plot (the former of which allows items to feature Zelda’s wonderful ability to recontextualise, while the latter allows stories to be more emotional through buildup), or do we make the world more open to explore and sacrifice these two major elements? You can’t have both and each has its big costs. The only way I’ve seen it somewhat bypassed is in Dark Souls, which has an open world but in narrow, branching spaces so that it feels like you profess forwards (as opposed to botw’s open world in open spaces), before its structure closes when reaching a big story midpoint, as Alttp and OoT used, for examples. Side characters had their own storylines to track throughout, but would cancel if certain tasks weren’t completed or in time. I think the shortcomings of botw were primarily rooted in world design structure. So, going back to your brainstorm of ideas, what overall structure can you see them operating within?

Also, the thing where in BotW where things Link does affects himself and the world around him was actually a cut feature from an N64 Zelda game, either Zelda Ocarina of Time, or Majora's Mask, I forget which. Reason it was cut was because the N64DD failed incredibly, leaving developers to either rework their games to carts, or cancel their games entirely. Sure it wasn't as fleshed-out in that game as it is in BotW, but regardless, it took inspiration from that cut feature, due to the ideas being quite similar.

I thought a few good small ideas for the sequel could be - 1. Iron smiths/ Weapon stores you could buy, mend and upgrade equipment for rupees and materials. It would also be good to have a damage bar for each piece of equipment. 2. Some kind of hairdressers in local towns. Change the colour and style of your hair as well as other accessories, I’d imagine players would love to customise their own version of Link (maybe!). 3. If the Sheikah slate is no longer available for quick travel, perhaps introducing locals with horse and carts who offer an almost taxi like service to map locations; the further away it is the more it will cost. Naturally with more settlements this may be viable, the only drawback is up tall mountains etc, but then again perhaps there is a Rito ‘flying taxi’ service! I’ve even thought a neat idea would be a newly built train track which circles Hyrule. 4. As a large percentage have already said, definitely clothing to climb in the rain :D 5. Perhaps taking inspiration from Animal Crossing, but having tools and materials available to craft your own equipment could be cool. 6. Most importantly, we need to be able to pet dogs...

I love how backwards people are about the "new" champions. We like Sidon because he was the most fleshed out, so we want him to have a bigger role. We don't care much about Teba because the game didn't care much about Teba, so we're not concerned about giving him a bigger role. I feel like this isn't a logical approach; if there are "new" champions that BotW and the fanbase didn't really do much with, then change that. Give Teba a bigger role, a more developed personality and backstory.

But Teba was fleshed out. He just didn't have it all on the face like other champions because he is not like that, but if you ask, other NPCs do talk a lot about him. Virtually no zora will talk about Sidon neither do the gerudo talk about the girl that much. But they had the most time on active screen so it's fine. That said, I do want more of Teba, he was cool as heck and one of my favourite NPCs of the game for sure.

@@Ditidos The Zora do actually talk about Sidon a lot, he has a fanclub and a monument dedicated to his heroics. The Gerudo talk a fair amount about Riju, and the entire area revolves around her throne room, where she's chief of her people. I feel about as much of a connection with Teba as I do with the guy who fixes the Great Eagle Bow. He doesn't even look all that visually interesting compared to the rest of the Rito.

Here one thing I would like if Nintendo did this. Hidden Skills or Old Tools that came from ALL the Zelda games. Here me out This link is strong but clearly he could always learn. Think of him learning old sword tricks from the Shade (which we know is OoT link) or gaining powerful weapons that don’t break, but you must face against the spirit of the hero who held it.

In regards to items I think it would be neat to do a lock and key approach to dungeons, like you get items outside of dungeons, or you have a tree like structure to dungeons, where the item you need could be from another dungeon or sidequest, where the world is built around multiple paths that branch and meet back up. For example you could find a new dungeon, you can get part way through only to find you need a specific item get further in.

If there’s anything from Spirit Tracks I’d take to put in BotW it would be the train. Imagine another big sidequest where you team up with Gorons & Bolson construction to build a train track from Tarrey Town to Hateno village. You could have several phases like having to build a bridge or dig a tunnel & making a substop station near Zora’s domain. Once the track is done you could also have another sidequest or minigame where the train is under attack.

I would love to see BOTW's sequel expand upon the item acquisition methodology that A Link Between Worlds and Skyward Sword established. Essentially i think unlocking an item should be a two or more part affair. Firstly you acquire the necessary items at the beginning of the game needed to complete all essential challenges, but you only receive their base form. You can then use materials and rupees to upgrade items like in Skyward Sword. Secondly every item has a big secondary form, and the only way to unlock the secondary form is to acquire them from a main dungeon. For example, lets say the base level item is the hookshot, materials and rupees can be spent to lower the amount of stamina consumed when using the hookshot by dampening the recoil. The main dungeon contains the necessary item that then unlocks the Long Shot lengthening the distance your able to grapple towards. The Long shot is not required anywhere other than the dungeon in which it's obtained. Once you've completed the dungeon (though no longer required to complete essential parts of the game) the Long Shot does provide the benefit of being able to grapple to locations at a much farther distance. A good way you could expand upon this concept further would be to have a post game final dungeon. Say the main game has a normal ending that only requires the base level items in order to complete (great for casual players or speed runners). The final dungeon can only be unlocked if you have acquired every items secondary form, and completed some essential side quests. This final dungeon takes advantage of every item in your inventory, and provides the hardest challenges in the game. Completion of this dungeon also leads to the true ending of the game.

The problem with items though is that the flying and climbing of BotW. along with the toolkit they ported from garrys mod, mean that actually creating situations to use one of these items outside a dungeon is a lot harder - increased player freedom means decreased design complexity.

@@Drengade Outside of dungeons would be designed the same way as BOTW. Assume the player only has the basic tool set from the beginning, and design around that. Think BOTW's Hyrule Castle, there is a point where you come across a waterfall if you have the Zora Tunic you can bypass some of the challenges by swimming up the waterfall, but If you don't have the tunic you have a harder trek ahead of you. Designs such as this that don't gate a persons entry but provide an easier route if you've put in the extra work beforehand. Save complex Designs for Dungeon specific challenges where you have to acquire a specific item. This also helps dungeons feel unique and interesting because it's the only place in the game where you come across those specific challenges.

@@facepwnagewtf Personally i hate that you can just skip the story to the end. the ability to do that at all just makes the whole game feel like padding and makes all the effort and story (which implies BotW actually had a well executed story) worthless. The whole point is that items gate entry to areas to give points in the game to have story events.

One lingering thought I always had about the first LoZ game: the ladder. But maybe not for the reason you'd think... In the original game, it let you cross one block of water, giving you access to new areas that let you get new items and complete dungeons. But more what I thought was great was how it was a passive item, letting you walk over water at normal speed without having to actively use something. I think a great addition to BotW2 would be some kind of water walking device - I envision a combination of the ladder's passive effect, as well as its and the Deku Mask (Majora's Mask) limited effect where maybe you could walk on water for a limited number of time or steps, a little more powerful than what OoT's hover boots accomplish.

I discovered & subbed to MonsterMaze last month I think & I'm glad I discovered this channel too! I love Zelda but I like following smaller or more unique Zelda channel, the big ones are repetitive for the most part. For me I want the NPCs/side quests of Majora's Mask, the alternative world of OoT or LttP, the family oriented story of Wind Waker & the story telling of Skyward Sword.

Here's my take for BotW2: Would personally love to see actual new and old returning enemies from past games. Not just having the same enemies from BotW but with a recolor. If they can expand the game with old returning enemies and adding new ranks to them, it will make the game feel even more alive and more immersive than going to fight a bokoblin, lizalfos or moblins for the 100000000th time.

Fantastic list. - ...slight disagreement about TP’s levels, though. As levels I have no complaint with them. But, when they call themselves “Temple This” or “Prison That” or “Mine The Other” -a trend started in OoT that I absolutely despise-there really is Nothing in their actual design and decor that supports that. (The one exception is Snowpeak Ruins. For a change it is what it says on the tin and it is Brilliant because of it, showing that actually making a place the remnants of a castle (or, say, a literal temple or prison?) doesn’t mean sacrificing level design.) And while the repetition of challenge and design of the Divine Beasts is a common complaint, I appreciate them actually having Plot and World significance for a change. Vs “it’s a ‘temple’ and ‘sacred’ but. It’s just a labyrinth with an appropriated name to make it seem shinier” that 3D Zelda largely struggles with. In 2D/Handheld Zelda, there aren’t really any appropriated names. They’re just labyrinths with a boss the center that are protecting or imprisoning a McGuffing or Sage with waves of enemies and traps designed to protect said item or prevent acquisition of the Mcguffin (Zelda1: to prevent Ganon from getting the triforce) (LttP&LA: prevent Link from completing his quest). It was as simple as that. The names then took inspiration from a key item or atmosphere or level design/literal map shape, or the Boss at the end. No pretense, just On The Tin. ...and I guess I’d just love it if either we had more of Snowpeak Ruins (the actual environment IS the level design and isn’t in disagreement with its name), or Zelda just going back to embracing level designs as Just Labyrinths and being done with it

The "Temple" concept started with Zelda 1. The "Dungeons" in Japanese were Shrines. In Zelda 2 the "Palaces" were Temples, ditto for A Link to the Past (Making the Shadow Temple a reference to the Dark Palace from A Link to the Past). It does seem as if Link's Awakening moved away from that for most of its levels while continuing onward in OoT thereon.

I like the idea of either co-op story play, or dual story modes. Either play as usual link with the master sword and Hylain shield. Or, play as Zelda with the ancient sheika sword and shield. Possibly have different items that only one could use. And secrets only found in one characters play through. Co-op would be awesome though. Either play alone and switch between the two or have another player use the other character with a second controller or even a whole other console(because the way the switch works)

Out of the points mentioned from all the games, i think the most important points to take away from this were: -More traditional, well thought-out dungeons with harder puzzles (plant traditional items in said dungeons in order to solve puzzles built around them) -More hidden dungeons and other hidden locations and goodies (ie: Zelda 1's exploration and its rewards for exploration) -More traditional Zelda Items (and making those items crucial towards exploring and traversing the world, imagine how useful the hook shot could be for climbing) -A more active story (ie: don't fucking shoehorn your story into backstory cutscenes, we want to be an active agent in the story) -More of a world to explore (such as a dark world system like A Link to the Past) -(BONUS) Maybe a musical instrument item? Musical elements tend to be fun in Zelda games when implemented correctly. BTW, you forgot Hyrule Warriors. I know its non-canon, but you could've still learned something from it probably given that the game is easily as popular as the other Zelda titles. Perhaps you could've mentioned how the game lets you play as characters other than Link.

To me my lanayru was a dungeon. Right after I got to Hateno village I talked to a farmer and he told me about the spring of power or wisdom or whatever. And going up the mountain was hard I ran out of food with peppers in it so I was freezing to death, lizard monsters were everywhere and posed a challenge, I also had to face the dragon and after all of that all I got was a spirit orb

Crazy idea. Optional hidden dungeons. These are completely unrelated to the main story but flesh out other bits and pieces of the world, or they can add on to the mystery from BoTW. As these were not accessible prior. Example: Water Temple in Necluda Sea. Hidden Grove in Laynaru Road. Temple of the Lord of the Mountain. Hidden Skills + combos for all weapon types found in BoTW + maybe some extra. Maybe tie more in depth side quests to progression, assuming exploration is still a priority. Say you find a forest temple that isn't accessible. And to gain the ability to enter it you have to complete unique quests for people in say the Korok forest, for them to give the item to access that temple. 3D Zelda with Co-op is one of my dreams but that is definitely out of my area to suggest something for, but I'd love to see it. Item transfer affecting game events or how you started the game would be great too.

My favorite part about some of my favorite zelda titles (skyward sword, a link between worlds, botw) was the villians, minor or major: SS had Ghirahim, a cocky but meticulous villain who was doing everything he could to achieve his goal, and had a lot of personality while doing it. A link between worlds had yuga, and there's not much that needs to be said, it's yuga. (arguably has one of the best themes). BOTW had master kohga, who unfortunately was really just a reward boss for getting through the yiga clan hideout, but he was silly in a way that made me chuckle the first time i played through the game. side note: i wish link could punch in botw

I hated rented items though! I would rather I still get items in dungeons, but other dungeons don’t need to be locked behind the previous. Some items could unlock secrets in the over-world or make other dungeons easier, but not require them.

Yeah, I enjoyed Link Between Worlds, but I'd definitely say the rented items weren't quite as fun. Honestly, BotW *did* have a fairly similar system: All the key items (the runes) were gotten outside their dungeons, on the Great Plateau. That said, for me, at least. One of the most exciting things about Zelda dungeons was always "I wonder what kind of item I'm going to get in here?"

The thing about key items is... -if you get it in a dungeon it forces a linear progression, especially in terms of more sophisticated puzzled and combat -have them all at once but have the puzzle and boss around one specific item (which LBW did, but then struggled having the item relevant to the boss battle) ...otherwise it’s just fighting waves of monsters, which while that is all what Zelda1 had to offer, I personally prefer a puzzlebox approach. (If I get to use my full arsenal and heavy use of said arsenal, I’m fine ending up with a linear progression. But my guess is that they’ll probably try to keep BotW2 nonliniar.) But maybe a third? Dungeon sets. You can do whichever dungeon in a set in whatever order, but you physically cannot complete a dungeon in the next set until you’ve obtained all the items from a previous set. (Like, 1-3 don’t require anything but the item obtained there, 4-6 require the items from the first set + the key item found specific to that location, 7&8 RinceRepeat, and 9 is The Full Arsenal for one final level before storming G-Man’s keep. (*yes I know traditionally it’s 8 Then Ganon, but it’s also often fewer, and having sets of three feels thematically right even if 8 is the Traditional Standard (Sometimes))

@@anonymousfellow8879 Actually, the 1-3, 4-6, 7-8 and then Ganon pattern was OoT's pattern, so it's arguable that that can also be considered traditional. I'd say a solid chunk of Zelda games do the sets of three style. In a similar vein, IIRC, while 1-3 in OoT were linear, I waaant to say you could do 4-6 in any order, then 7-8 in either order? So it wouldn't be overly unheard of.

@@Vgy1592 Exactly. You could alway climb, but say you get a hookshot in a dungeon-- now you can get to certain places more efficiently and have another combat option. The next dungeon doesn't necessarily need to require it.

I like how in BOTW the boomerang was there as a weapon, that can break and can be found around again Just like the others. So, what if there Is a new tab in the inventory for this things, wich will work Just like the weapons? In case of some item that is more unique (like a staff that raise sand, I don't think you can find it anywhere) It can act like the Master Sword, or, instead of recharching after a time, it can have to be recharged somehow. Also, you can shift the boomerang and the korok leaf there.

10:48 - I'd honestly prefer a hybrid between linear and nonlinear progression, kind of like how Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past sort-of did it: Dungeons were divided up into groups, and while you had to complete groups of dungeons in order, you could technically complete most dungeons within each group out of order (even though the games pushed an "intended" order). That way, you can preserve the satisfying item progression - dungeons in group 2 can expect you to have all the tools you got from group 1, group 3 can expect tools from 1 and 2, and so on - without completely scrapping the non-linearity that made BotW so good. That could also help to bring the narrative closer to the quality of previous games like Skyward Sword. The game can expect you to complete the main "sections" in order, even if events within a section can happen out of order. This could also have the side-effect of restoring the satisfying exploration dynamic from "classic Zelda": your progress doesn't feel "gated" because you don't come up against painfully arbitrary "roadblocks" but obstacles that you just don't have the tools to overcome yet, piquing interest and curiosity. This sometimes feels more natural than being able to completely "sequence break" the game from the start. Alternatively, later dungeons can exist in the overworld and be reachable from the start but impossible to actually enter until you have the right tools, kind of like how you can reach the entrance to the Forest Temple in the Sacred Forest Meadow as a child (IIRC that's where you meet Saria), but the stairs have collapsed so you can't enter until you have the hookshot.

This is pretty much literally how oot and parts of SS worked. in SS the final of the three visits to the provinces could be done in any order (bar going to the thunder dragon first because that would softlock you) the games essentially working as a series of open phases linked to a linear system of unlocks is how most zelda games work (for the most part) the problem is that the linear unlocking of each open section is generally dictated by the opening of new areas of the map as you progress... with botw's exploration mechanics that is no longer possible

7:06 I Highly dissagree with the statement of Zelda just being another Damsel in Distress in BotW! She has spendt 100 years holding Calamity Ganon back from wreaking havok upon the world, so that Link could recover! When released She was the one who wiped out Calamity Ganon! It's been like that in almost every game after OoT, Zelda with her divine power is the Nuclear Option agains evil. She is always the one granting the key power to take out Evil, be it granting the arrows of light, or litteraling blasting it away with magic. Which is why she is always taken out first, if she got to walk around freely, she'd obliterate all the enemies, there by removing all need for even having Link. Nowhere is that clearer than in BotW, where she goes alone to contain a litteral force of nature for a century, while guiding you through the adventure, then grants you a bow that shoots concentrated light to free her and then ends it all with the coup de grace of nuking ganon with a massive ball of light! So yeah, I call bullshit on that! Loved the video other wise though!!! (Yes, less rain please!)

TSFCaesar I agree, at least with BotW’s Zelda. She is NO damsel save for that one cutscene (and that probably has more to do with her father preventing her from learning anything that wasn’t “spirit maiden via springs because tradition”.) But in the sequel? She has full control of her abilities, and finally some confidence. Let her come! And fight! Do stuff! (Explore her magic beyond holding back then obliterating a Malice construct) But the other Zeldas...are kinda a mixed bag. (I don’t blame the characters, I blame Nintendo.) -OG Zelda used foresight to divide and scatter her Piece before capture, which is pretty brilliant. But, she’s still in a fire cage held hostage by a boar demon -Zelda11 is...literally under a sleeping curse. -LttP Zelda...is powerful enough to use telepathy, and apparently her and the other spirit maidens are living anchors to Ganon’s Seal, but that’s about it. They’re incredibly passive. -OoT Zelda was promising, and her foresight being a bit inaccurate and easily manipulated by Ganondorf, and her alterego Sheik is still a fan favorite. But, Feminine vs Androgynous Girl again and...bam damseled. In a crystal. (Despite her OWN triforce and shown to at least have enough magic mastery to alter her appearance -In Ages and Seasons, she only shows up for the Linked Quest. Which, she’s headstrong enough to sail over herself to...boost morale apparently? But credit for trying. But her actual abilities are limited to Foresight yet again, and it’s even wonkier than OoT Zelda’s. Aaaand, she’s captured and the game lets you think she died with Boar Ganon’s partial revival (but she gets better. And it isn’t clear if the other characters teleport Link and Zelda back, or if Zelda does that herself.) -I’ve admittedly haven’t been able to play any of the GBA titles but...in one of them Zelda literally turns to stone, and can actually die if you take too long in the bossfight. -Tetra...seriously deserved better. She’s literally shut in a basement after being made to look “prettier”, with the only way to go to and from Hyrule...being a full triforce piece. Which Ganondorf has but Link for the second half of the game does not. So, she’s predictably taken by Ganondorf into his Tower. (And she’s handier with a scimitar and bow than magic or the triforce. She’s a PIRATE!! Not spirit maiden!) Also the first Zelda to actually assist with the fight portion, not just do a blast of sealing magic (where was that before OoT Zelda?!) (And...without a boat technically Tetra could leave Hyrule, but she’d only be able to swim to the Tower of the Gods, which is kinda a massive Zelda Is Here beacon regardless.) -aaaaand then promptly turns to stone and has a whole Help Me Link intro when you boot up the game until it’s time to hunt the ghost ship, and isn’t revived until the very end, to...get blocked out by Bellum somehow? She’s literally sidelined and damseled. -ST at least lets Zelda be properly involved...even if she’s literally a ghost. But this is easily the most autonomy she got to have in actual gameplay, even if Link still did half the game “on his own because Franchise Tradition” -TP Zelda. Her surrender backfired, and she falls into a depressive funk. She doesn’t get out of this funk despite being shown at various points of being powerful in her own right, until after she’s led to believe Midna died after insisting on facing Ganondorf alone...and them summons a pocket dimension with the light spirits to obtain the light arrows for part of the gauntlet. (Where was that display before? She easily could’ve repelled Zant!) -SS....I really like her character. But it’s all Purification which is shown to be singing in a Spring then falling asleep to maintain a Seal, then at the very end she’s literally tortured and screaming in her sleep. It’s all incredibly “passive”, and that last one in particular is difficult to watch without wanting to scream at the screen. She’s an Incarnate Goddess! Let her blast him! -and...LBW Zelda. This one frustrates me. She gives Link the Charm because Foresight, but she’s not shown fighting back, and if she’s trying to stall for time and make Yuga monologue about his plan is...debatable. Then apparently she can’t hear Hilda talking to her from within the painting...but she can break through enough to give Link the Light Arrows for him to use while Merged? It’s inconsistent, and insult to injury when we see how powerful her counterpart Hilda is (and much more cunning) TL;DR: Despite having a handful of Badass Zeldas scattered throughout the franchise, they’re still deliberately damseled and sidelined by the Plot, even when it doesn’t make sense. Here’s to hoping BotW Zelda isn’t literally brushed aside in her sequel like poor Tetra

@@anonymousfellow8879 So your issue is that Zelda isn't the playable character!? Nothing of what you've said has dispproven my previous comment, it has actually fortified it. As I mentiuoned prieviously, Zelda is the nuclear option power wise, this makes her a key target to any of thier plans. She is always key to the plot, and key to the villains defeat. It is only logical for the villains to go for her, to avoid her using her full power against them. Besides, Zelda is rarely a warrior, that is the whole point of Link! She is ta scholar, a philosopher and a ruler. Though she can fight as well as proven in OoT, WW, TP, ALBW, BOTW, and many others. People seem to think that the only way to contribute is to swing a sword! It is not, and anyone who thinks that are tragicly narrow minded! Zelda has time and time again contributed to the efforts of Link, giving him crutial items, tools, clues and powers. Had Link not had the Ocarina and the song of time in MM, Termina would have been doomed. Had Zelda not guided Link in ALTTP, Ganon would have conquered Hyrule. Had Zelda not given Link the Bow of Light, Link would never have bested Yuganon in ALBW. Had Zelda not brought her powers to bear on Ganon and then rallied the other Sages in OoT, Ganon would have won. I could go on, but I trust you get the gist of it now! Yes, Zelda is often kidnapped or incapacitated in one way or another. But that is because the villains are smart enough to recognize a threat when they see it! Had they been so inept as to leave her free to stop them, there would never have been any games to play. Just another dull power fantasy. Besides, the point of the Trinity in LoZ is Courage guided by wisdom in the fight against Power, The Hero and Princess to stop the Incarnation! It is a team effort to fight, and no fights are won by just swinging a sword. I hope you can step out of the box, see the bigger picture and enjoy this fantastic series for what it is.

@@TSFCaesar I think... You completely missed the point. They were agreeing with you. They're just frustrated that for all her prowess and contributions, that she's regularly downplayed by the writers to give Link his "big damn hero trope" moments. She's powerful, wise, tactical, and skilled at the arcane arts. What everyone usually wonders is simply... Why don't we see this in greater volumes? Zelda doesn't need to be playable to showcase or play a more active role in the story. Yes, she's a key character, but she's always having her abilities discounted until the absolute last moment. We know Zelda can seal evil, create light arrows, attack with blindingly powerful waves of light magic, or command an army; not to mention research, restore, and properly use ancient technology; and this isn't even the tip of her skills. From a developer standpoint, she's just downplayed and stripped of any more direct prolonged involvement in every game (except with regards both Hyrule Warriors titles; and slightly less so with Wind Waker, and Spirit Tracks). This is simply done to give Link a purpose as her guardian and knight. That purpose always being to "rescue Zelda, so she can do the thing"; and never "journey together with her, and work as a team alongside her to prevent a calamity; or to defeat an antagonist for a full journey, side by side." What I'm personally hoping for is for Zelda to finally be a given a role as a permanent companion or party member alongside Link, for all of Breath of the Wild 2. The brains to his brawn, so to speak.

We ended up becoming a wee bit standoff-ish and they wrote in a way where they seemed at the time to be claiming that Zelda was nothing but a damsel in distress, probably why I didn't get the part where we agreed. Though tbh I don't quite recall. Anyway, I still stand by what I said, though I do agree that we should have a game where Zelda's role is as integral part of the gameplay as to the story. Usually Zelda is the one with the most power, but she does contribute in many itterations, while not in down right fighting, she is the usual mastermind and the one to have the final solution the the villains last trick. Though we DID get one where we had a Zelda with us, Spirit Tracks and we almost got it with Tetra, though she anded up pulling a sleeping beauty half way through Wind Waker. However, now in BotW Zelda mentioned how she can't hear the Master Sword, hinting at her powers being somewhat diminished from Magical nuke to something along the lines of Journey Mage, still plenty powerfull but not too powerfull. That opens up to A LOT of potential uses for her, either as Mass Effect esque companion or like how you can switch between characters in Hyrule Warriors. Link is the bravest, strongest and most cunning, since he solvest puzzles etc. Zelda is the smartest, wisest and more potent, magicaly speaking. So yeah, I am kinda hoping for something along those lines.

12:18 Not so advanced when you are fighting a Lynel at low health and it smacks you away causing you to roll down a nearby slope constantly taking damage from nothing as well as not being able to control Link at all in order to stop your momentum causing you to run out of Health while rolling and die, or roll off a cliff while being unable to do anything and die.

If they add to the physics, maybe instead of the sheika slate, just add items. Like in mm we had fire and ice arrows melting ice n freezing water. Hook shot would be nice but maybe a grappling hook could swing enemies and objects around adding a momentum like feature. Maybe link could swing in on enemies or pull them closer to increase damage outputs. Rods could replace stasis and magnesis. Heck even new variants of magic similar to the ones you got in oot could change that. I’m missing my bombchus and flowers. Wind rod could help with flight. Pegasus boots for mobility and add a unique way to certain weapon types (like running with a spear). I really like the idea of customizing the limited melee weapon assortment we have with additional tweaks from what item or gear you have equipped. Still could make the game non non linear. Just have mini dungeons to get said item and said item helps link enter and maneuver a main dungeon at a different location. Exploration is still a large majority, and still gives a non linear path where the dungeon order you take is based on what mini dungeon you find first. Then for those who just look up guides, the order really depends on the players preference the same way botw 1 did. Which pilots spirit ability did you want first to have fun around hyrule?

It also needs the part of exploring caves. The best part of Twilight Princess are the little almost-dungeon caves you can find in Hyrule Field. The best part of the feeling of adventure, almost as much as the sea exploring in WW. So... yeah, BOTW needs: Dungeon Crawling. BETTER Dungeon Crawling than in past Zeldas. And the come back of explore items. It would be a JOY to use the hookshot in open world areas to fasten vertical exploration at some advanced point, and also the paraglider needs to be taken out until the end or something. One of the best part of BOTW is the preparation when you need to explore upwards. Doing the same downwards would be a joy.

I wish for a training room, I found a way to make skywatchers from the Champion Mipha's Song mission as training partners for parrying since half the time your parry will not be able to actually get the beam to hit them back since they sway a lot.

My feelings on the matter- trying not to copy your list. LoZ: Open exploration but with limits. Too much freedom takes away from the essential Zelda experience. AoL: Link's original appearance. I know we won't get this, based on the trailer, so at least give us early access to Link's original green tunic. His new design sucks. LttP: Non-essential items like the canes of Byrna and of Somaria. LA: A menu screen with music. Seriously. OoT: A more interesting and varied inventory and items. MM: Nailed this one, I need say no more. Oracles: More directly useful (or just fun) collectibles like the rings. WW: A magical musical instrument. FS: Is the Four Sword too much to hope for? Maybe as an amiibo reward? FSA: Dark Link as an actual character. MC: Kinstones! These are a great collectible which have an awesome variety of effects, some event altering the course of events in the game in small ways. It's so sad kinstones have never made a return! TP: More substantial ties to previous games. Lore is better than Easter egg references. PH: A well fleshed-out companion for your travels like Linebeck. Linebeck does not get enough love. ST: Zelda as a straight-up playable character. I want co-op or at least switchable character control, like with Gongoron in PH and Kafei in MM, but specifically for Zelda. SS: What you said, but to add something more general, an unbreakable Master Sword. ALBW: So much I want to take from my favorite game in the series, but to name just one: More varied puzzle-solving, that uses more than just the items in your inventory. TFH: A kickass soundtrack! 90% of BotW's soundtrack can go suck on a cucco. TFH has one of the best in the series. Take notes! BotW: Ruins to explore and theorize about!

I would love to see Links Shadow play a role. Ive thought a bit about this and think I have an interesting way Nintendo could pull it off. In the scene we see play out (sort of) in the BotW2 trailer, we see Ganondorf (I am certain that it IS Ganondorf, as I think most of us are at this point) wake up. We also see a wave of malice spreadin out and overtaking that mouse (no, the mouse is not dark link lol). What if the malice overtakes Link and Zelda has to save him. Then we learn that Link "isn't whole". This not only could work as a way to nerf Link for the start of the new game, but could set up a lengthy side quest that has you encounter Dark Link in certain locations to regain a piece of his missing power each time he defeats his shadow. The rewards could be anything from Heart Containers (which is the least ideal, considering there are better ways to obtain them) to sword techniques (similar to TP), my preferred reward. This would also give us a long lasting secondary antagonist, something the sequel should definitely have.

Another thing I forgot to mention: This would also serve to give Link a voice (kind of). Dark Link could be voice acted. And in the final fight against him, we could see Zelda in grave danger, Dark Link taunting and mocking Link, and then Link, overcome by the severity of the moment, breaks his vow of silence a single time in defiance to his own darkness.

In regards to letting the player access the items right away in whatever order, I kinda liked it, but for an open world game like BotW (and its sequel), I think it would be better if each item had to be found individually, instead of all being located in the same place. Though I do like using them to not only complete a dungeon, but access it as well. Another possibility would be to have more than one way to complete dungeons, or require two trips using different items to truly complete a dungeon.

I love how this series calls out the genuine flaws that came from Botw completely abandoning series traditions. I think far too many people overlooked the actual problems with the game and its nice to see people who actually care about the great things in the older Zelda games. Hopefully Nintendo listens.

It's all very well asking for all these things and hoping that a game can function perfectly with all these elements. But keep in mind that the item renting system in a link between worlds made it ridiculously difficult for the devs to design the dungeons, because they had to account for a player who arrives there with only one item. And that item could be any item. This led to the games dungeons being ridiculously easy if people had all the items. This is just one example. All I'm trying to say is that the more elements you try to incorporate into a game, the tougher it becomes to make it a fun and coherent experience.

I really didn't like the rental system in A Link Between Worlds, and I don't think it's even a good way to have item progression in a non-linear title, let alone the only way to do it. Renting items is just a waste of time and money - you might as well be given all of them from the start and keep them, making none of them feel like real items. You never get the euphoric feeling of collecting a new item that will let you go somewhere or do something that you couldn't before. A better way to approach items is to have most of them passively enhance your moveset, with a few items giving you completely gamechanging abilities. Then, you design dungeons that can technically be completed without any items, but bringing specific items to them will open up new areas to explore that you literally could not reach before, or for new items to allow you to progress beyond the point that seemed like the end and go deeper in to the dungeon to perhaps fight an even tougher boss to get the real reward.

@@alfiehicks1 in zelda the items function as cores to puzzles - if the dungeon can be solved without them then you get annoyed at having to get an item for an optional reward, or annoyed at a dungeon that is too easy with the item. I really dislike how everyone seems to think the axing of the normal item system is a good thing. Items as passives - such as the strength bracelets from other games - are generally some of the least likely to elicit the 'yes! i got the thing!' reaction that they tend to. BotW sacrificed story, progression, good dungeons and the feeling that -at least I - get from playing a zelda game, in exchange for the instant gratification of being able to explore the entire world without working to get your means to do so, some very annoying collectathons, a lacklustre new fighting style hampered by a bloated roster of weapons and a set of abilities you are granted at the beginning of the game that have been ripped straight from garrys mod. It would have been a lot better if before the divine beasts you had to visit three or four main dungeons to reclaim your gear - your glider on the plateau, your bow, your climbing gloves and your sword, shield and tunic (each of which also granting you a classic zelda item), before there is a big turning point in the story - i don't know, the calamity does something - which clears paths, this along with your reclaimed gear allows you to reach the divine beasts and deal with them

one thing i was a little disappointed with was the armor system in botw. i like how you have to upgrade a whole bunch of different armor to adapt to an environment and have the defense to fight enemies. but one thing i thought was really disappointed with was the jewelry from gerudo town. i thought that i upgrading them would increase the resistances they give but no, which sucks because those things are so expensive to upgrade. lots of creativity went into botw but not into the armor system

12:21 One thing that I hope Breath of the Wild 2 improves on is your Shitty Defense in Breath of the Wild even at Max Defense. Early Game, Everything hits like a Truck and at endgame only half of the enemies do. Hell, if they did something like in Immortals Fenyx Rising where if you have the crafting materials then you can keep increasing your Base Defence and Base Attack and Armour Defence far past the Max as well as allow you to Decrease the amount of Stamina you use for everything via Crafting then I will be content.
