XFL - 32 Team Expansion and Alignment Proposal

Hindsight is alive in the year 2020!
Did you hear? The XFL is coming back! Vince MacMahon has announced he will relaunch the extreeeeeme option to the NFL in 2020. So, what everyone is wondering is...which cities and teams will be involved? The same Original Eight as before, or locations that are completely new?
I hypothecize expansion to 32 teams, with the following rules:
1) Focus on cities without current teams in the NFL or any other professional league, and
2) Cities whose metropolitan area population exceeds 4 Million people and currently feature an NFL franchise may still be considered.
So, New York-New Jersey, you're safe.
I leave it up to all of you to come up with the team names!

The big markets have the NFL. There is only so much saturation. I thought I would mention that the Chicago Enforcers had very pitiful attendance so bad to the point that if the XFL had not folded they would have moved the next season. I see no reason why places like New York and Chicago have to have both. It was the smaller markets in the XFL that did better like Memphis, Birmingham and Orlando becasue there is no NFL there to support.

It sure didn't work using Chicago, NY or LA as flagship franchises the last time. the XFL is not the NFL it is lower lever. Like other minor leagues teams are normally in smaller markets. The AHL avoids teams in NHL cities is an example.

dvferyance Eh... There are AHL clubs in NHL markets or even NHL caliber markets. Manitoba Moose and the Chicago Wolves are located in cities where an NHL franchise exists, and that's because the media market and fan base is big enough to support both of those teams, and while some AHL clubs like Cleveland, Milwaukee, Charlotte, San Antonio, and San Diego all have the market and fanbase to support an NHL franchise, only Milwaukee would make sense. As far as the XFL goes, I don't see it going anywhere. It'll definitely relaunch, but like the NGL in Australia (which hasn't even played it's inaugural season) will ultimately fail.

Shepperd November I can think of few good team names. For example the Portland Lumberjacks, Washington Gladiators, Birmingham Yellowhammers (named after the state bird of Alabama) or Birmingham Red Wolves, San Diego Sharks, Milwaukee Bulls, Sacramento Grizzlies and St. Louis Stallions. If they do come up with team names in the future, they should not offend or demean minority groups. They should bring back the Orlando Rage, Chicago Enforcers and New York/ New Jersey Hitmen in the future.

Considering Iowa was voted as the #1 minor league sports market according to SportsBusinessDaily, and has better college football attendance than at least a 3rd of NFL Teams, and would probably be pulling similar numbers, I don't see how they can't have an XFL Football team. If it was NFL, I wouldn't be stating this, but it's the XFL. If anything, such a thing seems RIGHT up their alley. Granted, it's not going to be top 8, but I can see it making top 24.

The XFL is targeting those who stopped watching the NFL due to Kaepernick et al. There will be a lot of teams from the South. The other target areas are those with great fan bases but crappy teams: Chicago, Cleveland, etc. No way would a Milwaukee team work with the Bears, Packers, and another XFL team all within a 120 mile radius of Milwaukee.

Except none of those teams are closer than 96 miles. And the Badgers are still over 70 from Milwaukee. There's not even so much as a D3 college team that plays within Milwaukee's borders. A legit pro football team in Miller Park would be huge.

Yeah, I agree with the demographic thinking. They will be a lot more strategic with their thinking. A market I see with a giant gap is western NY. Its a more conservative market with a small market NFL team off in the corner. While the NFL has a solid grip on the Buffalo/Rochester region, the XFL could go for the heart of the state in Syracuse. And with SU and University at Buffalo nearby theres a steady stream of undrafted division 1 players to bring in to play

That wouldn't affect anything. The problem would be in terms of Milwaukee there isn't anywhere that they can play. Playing at Camp Randall in Madison wouldn't make sense for a "Milwaukee" team. Miller Park is too small for football. They would have to build a stadium somewhere. Good luck finding money for that. We are still paying off Miller Park and the renovations to Lambeau Field and now we got the new Bucks arena on top of it. I'd love to see a football team in Milwaukee. I just don't see how they are gonna swing that.

Some Guy too close to Omaha...a better place for a team. The population in Omaha is twice the size of Des Moines and Omaha is close enough to Iowa that both states could rally for the same team. Build the stadium on the Carter Lake, IA/Omaha, NE border...50 yard line marking the border. Then move the annual Hawkeye/Husker football game to that stadium. Half the field is in Iowa, half is in Nebraska. Rename that game ‘Farmageddon’ and have them play for a gold tractor instead of that hideous hunk of metal they play for now.

They'd be perfect for XFL. Omaha...good luck with that. I'm excited about the reinvent of the XFL but lets get it right, cities like Omaha, Toledo and Providence won't work, going into loyal NFL cities like DC, Seattle & San Jose (5 miles from 49ers stadium) will be a disaster. I'd go directly into San Francisco who lost the 49ers to Santa Clara/San Jose and the Raiders to Las Vegas. Sacramento is a good placeholder expansion town. Stay away form Los Angeles where the top team doesn't even reside in the city (Raiders) and the new team (chargers) can't even sell out a 22,000 soccer stadium. Lets try this - San Francisco, Portland, San Diego, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Chicago, Memphis (home of FedEx), Louisville (home of UPS), Orlando, Brooklyn, Cleveland (beat the NFL on the battlefield), Raleigh, Norfolk (Virginia Beach/Newport News), St Louis, Columbus and Ft Worth. 16 teams, cities on the sidelines would include Sacramento, Omaha, Fresno, Birmingham, Boise, Salt Lake City, Honolulu (with local govt involvement) El Paso/Juarez.

I live in Maine and this state would kill to have an XFL team. We have a minor league baseball and hockey teams and both get crazy support state wide. As for the name, because of both Portland’s I would call the team either “Maine Blackflies”, “Maine Maniacs”, “Maine Thurst” (bloodsucking insects), “Maine Horror” (after famous Mainer Stephen King), “Maine Crushers” (lobster crusher claw) or “Maine Rising Sun”. Just some thought from one guy should buy season tickets today for an XFL team in Maine.
