i don't see why the interviewer has always been so rude, interrupting every round when she isn't taking more than necessary time. she's very eloquent and is indeed answering each questions efficiently, have some manners and be patient like a real british gentleman darling.

Savaqua Winters of course, Anson Chan represents the elite of HK. She was no 2 in the S.A.R. government reporting to the then Chief Executive and was the boss of Carrie Lam back then. She is well respected by all even after retirement for years.

The question you asked doesn't hold. According to UK National Archive FCO 40/327, Chinese Premier Chou rejected the suggestion from Britain that aims to make Hong Kong a self-governing dominion(which is obviously a prerequisite of universal suffrage). So China has explicitly asked to continue the colonial status of Hong Kong in 1958. I assume you can read Chinese, ref here: www.vjmedia.com.hk/articles/2014/01/11/60039 Secondly, universal suffrage is promised in the Basic Law as the ultimate goal. So what's wrong to ask for something in the mini-constitution? Lastly, every society is moving forward. It's natural to request something good. Please bear in mind that democracy is also part of the Chinese Socialism Core Values.

@@randyyoung3332 In 2014, Scotland held a referendum in which 4 million voted if Scotland should be an independent country and 55% voted NO. Obviously only the people but any government can decide whether to stay or leave in a democratic society. Moreover, thinking, speaking or even making efforts for independence is not banned in democratic countries. You may google what Yes California and Texas Nationalist Movement have been doing for years. This is freedom of speech. Now back to HK, from the right start of the protest, independence was never part of the five demands. Millions of people go onto the streets asking for the five demands but HK government never replied anything. More people started to think of independence because HK government is not responsible for HK people but central government of China only. But still that's 11% of the population only according to www.pori.hk The focus of HK people is always the five demands. But Chinese government simply labels all protesters as splittist in all media in mainland China. That's a sneaky propaganda to silence the voice in HK and to seek support from mainland people. Since you can visit youtube, you should know how much censorship exists in the mainland media.

you only think she had clear argument simply because you don't have enough info on the history and the situation of HK. If you do, you will see that is is not an argument, it is actually sophistry and quibbling. I used to admire Mrs Chan, but now. I don't get it that one of the five demands which release all the arrested people which they are all arrested by police due to different criminal. If so, the HK government should release all the currently prisoners before those violence protesters as FIFO (first in first out). You don't attack police and police stations, destroy public facility and beating up people when other people have their freedom of speech and their right of who should I support. .

What Mrs Chan wishes and proposing does not represent all Hong Kongers. Never entice those under 18 years old to protest. If you remove these underage only about hundred thousand protester only. I suggest the protester to remove the mask and bring along garbage plastic bags to collect all thrown bottles at the end of the days. I only respect and hear those who protest peacefully. You have every right to protest and strike but not riot.

Simply, on the starting point of this riot - the Extradition Bill, HK's legal system is such that it has no jurisdiction on crimes committed outside of HK, even those committed by HK residents (just refer to the case of the HK kid who murdered his girlfriend in Taiwan earlier). So if a HK resident commits a crime in the Mainland and flees to HK, he or she simply cannot be prosecuted by HK law, and cannot be extradited to the Mainland for trial. What a joke? If China "embraces universal value" and become "HK style", can Mainland kids beat up Hong Kong kids in the Mainland streets and declare it's for the sake of freedom and democracy? She is still indicating that the violence on the part of "protestors" is few and that the Police is brutal. What kind of person can talk this kind of bullshit with a straight face? Are the British people really fond of such bullshit?

Hold on there - the host did not explicitly disagree with HK's position. He's merely stating a legitimate question by first focusing on the core demand (bill is already retracted, why continue?) which in turn allows room for Ms. Chan to elaborate why the other 4 demands are just as important (because people's voices were not heard + retraction came 3 months late) I think this is a high quality interview.
