Hindi is hard if you don't start when your kids are born. I started learning Hindi over a week ago and am encouraged that-albiet with rewinds and intense listening-I was able to interpret several basic phrases that you and others are using, such as kya yah acchaa hai (is this good?), and other phrases. “Kya” at the beginning of a sentence indicates a question. “Yah” mean “he/she/it” with reference to nearness (basically, “this”). “Acchaa” means good. “Hai” is a form of “to be”. And the verbs are placed at the end of sentences. Acchaa is an inflecting adjective that takes on the gender of whatever noun it describes. English is my native language, and I’m making Hindi my second.

Everyone always seems to me too how "he hasn't actually learned the language" but what you fail to realize if you can learn the language enough to speak and understand day to day stuff, that is how you then branch in to more of the specifics of the language. The sheer fact that this can lead to networking with local Hindi speakers is a huge bonus. Also it's not as easy as you think to even remember the amount he has and to speak it to a degree it's understood and to understand it when a native is speaking it.
@saiminayatullah66204 жыл бұрын
That’s simply not true. Listening skills don’t come out of nowhere, and most of the speakers didn’t seem to particularly care he was speaking Hindi, they just gave short responses to his question. It’s much more pragmatic to focus on comprehension and vocabulary building for a while and then speak. You can only practice what you’ve already learned.
@liqritrs83914 жыл бұрын
Saim Inayatullah I disagree as most people become disheartened and give up when they don’t speak the language so they quit. I think learning a week of sentence mining first and THEN doing grammar and vocabulary accumulation is the best.

@Liqrit Rs Sure, motivation is important and early speaking can help with that. That's not what Xiaoma is doing though, is he? He learned a handful of basic phrases from tutors and then used them on uninterested South Asians. What did Xiaoma, or anyone, learn from the exchange "ye kya hai", "chips", "dhanyavaad dhanyavaad thank you"? Did he actually elicit new language from the native, did he make any sort of connection?
@liqritrs83914 жыл бұрын
@@saiminayatullah6620 of course not. You and I both not he made no connection to anyone. Do you disagree with me that motivation is not the most important? Motivation and a purpose?

@@liqritrs8391 Yes, I agree motivation is important. Which is why am completely against Xiaoma's clickbaity videos where he pretends to learn languages much faster than he is actually learning them, it destroys the motivation of normal people who don't know better and don't realise how Xiaoma actually hasn't learned much of anything.
