You know why Xiaomi does not add ip ratings? Thats what the CEO said: 1: Phone gets 20%-30% more expensive (They want to keep prices low) 2: How often do we drop our phones? People who work for this companies found out, that after a 1 time drop the water proofness can be broken (Yes thats fast!) Soo thats why xiaomi does not do it and I have no problem with it. I use smartphones for around 6 years now and none of them saw even a drop of water

even if phone is water proof water will go in through speakers so its just a feature which add price to the phone but dont do shit. i had an accident when i was snowboarding and phone was in same pocket as strawberry juice. the jacket is really good quality and i didnt even realise that juice just blow up in pocket until i started smelling something but once i found that, phone was dead. =/ so if phone fall in water and something like that best is just to change it with new one unless its old nokia...

i take my phone to the bath everyday, i wash my phone dirty off instead clean with towel or tissue paper. no water resistance is a break deal for me. and that's me, it's cool if you don't need it. and you should be cool if i need it. lol anyway my hand is really sweaty and my last 2 phone were actually corrosion inside because of my sweaty hand.

Its gimmicky *now*. In a couple of years everybody will be using Wireless. It's faster, more convenient and it's extends the battery life

you can buy the fastest wireless charger and still have only 15W OUTPUT but it is for now. And guess what? It will be very hard to get any faster than that because coils need to be bigger, and there is no space for that. Only Samsung newer devices like S9 and Note9 can be charged at 15W, if you look at competitors they usually can use 7.5W up to 10W, so that is much slower even than qc3 which is rated at 18W and much much slower than qc4+ which is rated at 27W

Also, reviewers need to start comparing these approx 400 to 500USD Chinese phones to roughly equivalent priced phones from other manufacturers, rather than always comparing them to other 800USD+ flagships. Then the feature sets of each phone can be better compared and criticized if necessary.

The main problem I have with the notch is the lack of notifications or phone states (silence/alarms/etc.) icons. Pity you didn't mention it in this video but you did mention in previous ones. If it was like the OP6 notch, we could have all those notifications. The "hide notch" option is great but it doesn't help with this. Great review once again. Keep it up! ;)

I did mention it briefly the UI comprises, the lack of battery percent info, notifications etc is the biggest thing, the notch is simply too wide. Oneplus 6 have done it much better. And yes covered more in the unboxing video and 24 hours later.

Mi MIX series is now their top-tier flagship line and Mi series will sit below that, as evident by the pricing of the Mi MIX 2S and Mi 8 so it's perfectly logical that they do not include wireless charging on the Mi 8 because they certainly have to reserve some features exclusive for their top of the line MIX series. If both Mi MIX 2S and Mi 8 are priced the same, then yes your arguments make sense but the Mi 8 is cheaper, I think is alright to look pass what Xiaomi did not add in like IP rating, front-firing speaker, wireless charging, etc. Just my thoughts though, great review nonetheless, cheers. At this point, will you still recommend Mi MIX 2S over Mi 8?

even if you "disable" the Notch it doesn't look good because the roundings have a different size or sometimes there are even no roundings which looks horrible... No wireless charging AND no headphone jack is also absolutely horrible. Great review, just one question...Why didn't you install MIUI 10 (eu weekly rom). I belive this phone was suppoosed to come with official MIUI 10 but they never made it on time. I'm running MIUI 10 eu weekly rom on Mi8, Waze works perfectly, I dont see those 16m accuracy affecting Waze precission.

Please redo review on miui 10. The Mi 8 was designed to be used with miui 10. I dunno why it didn't ship with it, but it has been stated several times on the xiaomi forums that some features might be missing or not working as advertised until miui 10 is released for the phone.

Just meant a review of the miui 10 os running on it (beta or not) might give the phone a more fair shake as it most likely is running suboptimally on 9.5 for reasons unknown to anyone but xiaomi. I can live with that notch knowing that you can hide it with software. But the symmetry of the bottom and top edge of the screen when playing games makes my eyes bleed! Curved at the bottom and have edges at the top. 😪

botsok3skelion Hey,if you don't want that to happen,and want more screen in game,go to the settings and enable fullscreen mode for apps you need...It will leave the screen as it is(with a notch) and thus,totally identical edges on both top and bottom.

Great review update! The top left space is occupied by the clock display and signal strength. Is there any way to remove at least the clock display to make room for notification icons? Otherwise, one has to always pull down to check notifications. Thanks.

Two issues with this phone: 1. HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE notch and 2. They messed up the display, they curved it too much and if you look near that big chin you will see that on most ocassions a lot of pixels are missing from the lower left and right sides. If you put a notch at least get rid of the chin...

It actually has another very important aspect missing from most of its current major competitors and that is the Fast Charging which to me is an absolute Must and a deal breaker if missing.. I love the Honor 8X and Nova 3i but both are sadly missing on this crucial feature that's why I'm still very hesitant going with any of the current midrange phones knowing that Nova 4 and Samsung A8S plus Lenovo Z5S all coming very soon and all have that feature plus more

This phone has a LTE CAT 4 rating, one of the lowest among SOC 845 based phones, and it means it tops out at only 400Mbps DL. This should also be a major consideration in comparing Mi8 with others...take a look back at other phone reviews and check the LTE CAT rating and you might change your mind
