Love how Xie Lian is shown to really fear his own anger, even when it's expressed in the mildest form. He shows the smallest sliver of anger and he's curling into himself horrified. As if he's not allowed even that smallest expression of weakness or rage.

@@easolinas1233 Yee-ees but this is a very different expression of anger. It's just frustration and grief. Yes he grabs Hua Cheng but it doesn't seem particularly violent. I agree though, backstory definitely has a lot to do with it.

Also like that we see this from him, in the books one thing I found frustrating about the writing, or at least the translation, is Xie Lian's lack of emotional response to... a lot. That's telling of his character, but it also makes it hard to know who he is.

The novel and the donghua are so well-paced in this arc in terms of what they reveal and how that happens in combination with Xie Lian having questions (or doubts) about Hua Cheng's involvement in his life and possible motivation for putting Qianqiu and Qi Rong together. I liked that they added a little extra (crazy) dimension to An Le here too, even if it was all so upsetting!

Being strong doesn’t mean you need to always take on all the weight of the world on your own. I love how TGCF explores the way we think we need to take on things even to the point of detriment of our wellbeing and happiness. And also how sometimes you do breakdown like that. But then the way you need to remember those who love you still support you and you’re not alone in this and in fact the burden is much lighter when shared by another.

I thought the same thing too, and the fact he was going to go disspite the trauma, like he felt like he was ready to move on, and then that happens. He's been holding in the guilt and pain for so long, never really being able to process it- since he gets hunted and nailed into a coffin. :( I'd love if we got a Haulian hug of sorts >.

6:50 Not only that, hes having More Trauma Flashbacks to the last time he lashed out at a ghost who was a really good friend and only wanted to help. 7:50 Also this assigns the blame to An-Le, who before we forget, was LQQ closest childhood friend. EDIT: MORE THOUGHTS FROM THE PIT. XL's breakdown is also such a contrast to his apology in episode 6 (?). There, he's very nonchalant about his pain, only focusing to how he hurt Hua Cheng and trying to reassure him. Here, he's raving and shouting, because the pain was ok as long it has a purpose and now the hundred years were all for nought. On Hua Chengs' side, he still feels guilty for wounding Xie Lian and probably wishes he had exacted retribution, if only to aliviate the guilt. And now, when he tries to right this old wrong, he is faced with anger, as a flower once did centuries ago. Except he's older now, and he knows His Highness only strikes out of pain, not malice. Finally, damn, WNF Really messed Xie Lian up. Hes currently going through resurfaced trauma thats been repressed for centuries, is understandably not in control of his emotion, and all he can comprehend is that history might repeat itself here. MORE THOUGHTS FROM THE PIT. What if XL is so accepting of his suffering here is because he feels like he still needs to take the punishment that 【redacted】took for him. And by people saying he didnt deserve it, it might sound like the other DID deserve taking his punishment and downplays the tragedy.
