Xinjiang is not only about Uyghurs and Muslims. It is multi-ethnic multi religion. Uyghurs are migrants in the first place. The original natives are Hans. Historically Uyghurs and Hans has very good and close relationship. They helped each other and fought hand in hand against the Turks. Linking Uyghur with East Tunkestan is a complete joke. Uyghurs became refugees and migrated to Xinjiang to seek protection by the Hans because of persecution by East Turkestan. However East Turkestan had ceased to exist since 500 years ago. The modern East Turkestan Independent movement has nothing to do with East Turkestan, but a terrorism monster created by CIA.
@LewisCrampton2 ай бұрын
Xinjiang is a Uyghur autonomous region, and according to census figures in 2020 and 2010, is the majority ethnic group in the area, along with islam being the most followed religion. So I know there are more groups, just like everywhere else in China, but it is a muslim Uyghur population according to official statistics. I haven't made a single reference to East Turkestan. Absolutely no idea what point you're trying to make.

All the border provinces of China share similarities with their neighbouring countries. In the South, Yunnan incl its minority peoples are like Thais, austronesian in looks and celebrate similar festivals. In the North, Inner Mongolia is like Mongolia with rolling grasslands. On the northeastern side, you have russian architecture, Russian-chinese and further down you have people of Korean ancestry. Xinjiang is no exception but the peoples look the least Han-looking (majority ethnicity in China) due to centuries of admixing along the ancient silk route.

Actually I wish there's just one time zone - UTC *for the whole world*. It simplifies things quite a bit (e.g., in many industries such as airlines operations) while the downside is adaptation which should be relatively easy to do, especially once you get used to it in one particular location. While your daily activities can still follow the light, i.e., waking up going to work at sunrise, going to bed after sunset etc. The clock reading are just numbers. Associating numbers (as opposed to circadian rhythm) with activities is nothing more than just a convention. E.g., I grew up in this region we are used to going to school at 02::00 (sunrise at 00::30) and going to bed at 14::00 (sunset at 11::00), UTC that is.
@LewisCrampton2 ай бұрын
It definitely exposes an interesting concept being somewhere not in line with sunrise/sunset. I'm not against the idea of a single time zone!
@ladenroth53372 ай бұрын
@@LewisCrampton I forgot to mention those are probably my guess the reasons for which China is having one time zone. And hypothetically China can serve as a smaller scale 'pilot plant' or example if the world one day would consider pushing for the global time zone idea. As now one can find out from the people in the more remote regions in China and study empirically the pros and cons.
