Fixing a Jaguar X-Type Misfire: Replacing Spark Plugs

Doing this job twice convinced me to sell mine lol. Valve cover gaskets leaked into the plug wells, fouled the plugs, fouled the cats and O2 sensor. I did the plugs and gaskets, a shop did the exhaust stuff. About a year later it started misfiring again, gaskets leaking into the plug wells AGAIN. Blegh! Best car I've ever driven in the snow though, 2003 with the viscous coupling. Absolutely phenomenal. Well mannered and tons of grip when you're behaving, RWD bias and just a bit tail happy when you're not.

Leaking valve covers won't leak oil into the combustion chamber😂

@@richardrichard5409 Oh yes it will. They leak down the spark plug tube seal, pool up around the spark plug, and then seep down the threads.

Did you have misfires at all six cylinders?

@ It would go into limp mode, I think the rear bank misfired more than the front. I sold that car a long time ago now, at least 4 or 5 years.

2-3 years ago, the X-Type Jags were still selling for good money here in Canada, but now, they are almost free. The reason is that they started to rust very badly with age, as well as the salt they put on the road during winter.

Here in California, the X-Type and S-Type is the most common Jaguar you see on the road.

Once you've done this once, it's a 35 min to change plugs. No need to remove manifold, just tilt upwards ❤

Hi jesse love your stuff, i got a 93 jaguar xj6 which is showing fuel failure code 12. The car stalls after fewseconds, runs rough.I changed the fuel pump and filter. I have the original cats, could this be the issue. cheers brother
