Hey, Brian, here’s a tip to share with your subs. The battery life on my A800 started getting shorter and shorter. I just blamed my charger. Turns out it was a short-circuit in the aileron servo, which literally melted the back of it - where I couldn’t see it. I only discovered this when I burnt myself on the wire!
@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
WOW!!! That's no good!!!
@crashrr29935 жыл бұрын
Brian Phillips I couldn’t understand why I was getting so bad at aileron flying! Anyway, I see you have one or two minis... 😂, so if you notice a short battery life, check the wires and servos for overheating. Meantime, I am on the home-straight covering a 1948 KK Invader to which I’ve added a small motor and r/c wingerons! Thanks for all your videos.
@crashrr29935 жыл бұрын
I just bought one, got it in the air, today. Seems better with the battery way back, oh, and if you look at the root of the folding prop, you’ll see a moulding tag, which catches on the spinner. I trimmed this and lubed the props with graphite powder, which makes it an awesome wee glider. Can’t wait to slope it in a breeze.
@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
Did you get the prop to fold???
@crashrr29935 жыл бұрын
Brian Phillips Yes, and no... it’s not yet completely free, but if I go into a glide from full power, the wind will fold it. Here’s a question... I can buy the electronics for this airplane on Banggood for £24, so I’m thinking of installing them in a Hurricane that I built a few years back. But how do I bind the new Rx with the original Tx? In other words, can I fly both airplanes with the same transmitter? Thanks, Brian.
@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
YES. You just don't turn them both on at the same time. Same semi-automatic binding procedure. It will basically happen on it's own. You can use these transmitters with virtually any other XK plane/heli with similar channels....but don't take my word for it, just try it out ;)

Hey Brian its a very dainty little flyer. I would be tempted to use the motor only on launch, then glide around. It almost could be a miniature Phoenix 2000. We are right into our winter with wind and rain making it hard to go flying. All the best from the land down under.
@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing, but then with the prop tractoring all the time, you kinda have to stay on the throttle, or she'll "break" herself to the ground, and the elevator is so small, you will lose elevator authority and stall into the nose, rather than landing - I only say it because it's happened about every other flight ;( Other than this issue, which is kinda a big one, it's a great, fun little plane - And yes, it DOES most definitely look like the Phoenix, but it doesn't perform anything like it :(.... too bad, since the Phoenix, in all the sizes, has been phenomenal!!!

Totally agree -- this plane is robust I have broken the nose off it a couple times hitting tree branches as the controls I feel are a bit hit and miss - not too trim able responsive rolling right, but not so on the left on my model! But its been very repairable when crashed, the nose always glues back on ok and the motor seems tough enough although brush less would have been a better option as you say - I cant put my finger on it really but its not been my best flying experience I have ever had with micro planes either, I feel slightly 'out of control' when flying it. And only one battery is a bum - two should be a minimum as fly times fall off beyond 12 mins.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
Yep. The Jumper makes a BIG improvement over the stock Tx. You might try an Open Tx transmitter to see if you enjoy the performance a bit more...but I've learned with some planes, they just "are what they are" and not worth investing too much time. Cool, thanks. And I was thinking, for the prop still spinning and ruining the clean air, just put a toothpick (or 3D print a beautiful piece hehheh) sticking out a little behind the prop. Not sure if this would work or not, might want to use zip tie material. The idea being that when the prop starts folding back it will rub against that and stop, until you apply power (in which case it may be in the way unless you angle it in a clever way?). I used to fly fixed wings in the 90's and do gremlin combat. Just starting to build a few foamboard experiments again now and your channel is perfect.

yeah, but all the surfaces are too small for a sluggish plane. She's gotta get some speed up to move the air across the surfaces, and the prop prevents getting to this speed. Breaking would fix this issue ;)

I bought this plane, but I have to say the model I have is not the most responsive, and at times unpredictable--its like a wallowing flier -- its better taken up to height and glide down. The Right roll on my model is very limited. The mixes they put in which are not adjustable so not ideal for me, so power on and you get UP elevator mixed in so to land I knock off the throttle. 7/10 for me.

@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
If you can't see it anymore, you've flown too far....or when you see the plane changing it's behavior. This plane it going to have a shorter range than a "Full range" transmitter, but it's still got ample range for most people with good vision. You'll have to get some bamboo skewers, or Carbon Fiber strips and glue her back together! It's a lot of work, but you can fix it. I crashed my apprentice into my neighbors roof, the FIRST DAY I HAD HER!!! Super annoying. I initiated SAFE with the plane turned upside down, and this caused the OLD style SAFE Rx to think that was the "home position" to return to...so when I flipped the SAFE switch, it rolled over into an unrecoverable manuever, and by the time I realized the stupidity of what I had done, she was squished into my neighbors roof...then he cam out and said, "What was that!??!?!"...good thing my old neighbor and I are on good terms ;)

@keithwhisman5 жыл бұрын
I know some people suggest using bambo skewers but really foam airplanes are made up of little foam balls all glued together so when you tear the foam all you need to do is glue it back together with foam safe glue and it’ll be as good as new. My foamies that I’ve crashed all I did was glue the foam back together. Balsa models are a lot different but foam models are so damn forgiving and easily repaired even when they look totaled you’ll be surprised what you can do with glue and patience.

Couldn’t you brake the motor the same way it works in a brushed rc car? They slow down when you push the throttle the other way, I’m not sure how it works, but they could probably do the same thing for planes.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but this ESC (electronic speed controller) is for a BRUSHED motor, and not a brushless ESC. With a Brushless Motor and ESC, you can turn on BREAKING, which will stop cycling the change in state from one set of electromagnets to the next set, as it typical to spin the motor, thus HOLDING the bel housing still. This will "Break" the prop, and then the blades will simply push back. The problem with a BRUSHED MOTOR, is that they're no feedback, so you could hypothetically make the motor RUN backwards, but you wouldn't have very good control over it...and you'd have a prop that wanted to spin backward with the throttle stick all the way down. This would be potentially unsafe, and definitely too advanced for a cheapy plane. What they need to do is get a brushless motor and ESC in there and turn on the breaking. This is very common on rc aircraft.
@nicksantitoro4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. I also think heat would be a big issue with the foam. I think how braking works in a brushed motor is that the esc sends reverse pulses to the motor to slow it down. This would work in the plane as well, but I assume the motor could get quite hot while doing this and it might melt the foam. I think a cool modification would be a spring loaded prop. I’ve seen them on some of these glider planes. After you let off the throttle the blades would slow down and fold to the sides of the nose, instead of just spinning free for a while like this one does.
